Who told you the Allman Brothers weren't brothers? They absolutely were brothers. Dwayne died in a motorcycle accident. He was lead guitar his brother Greg was keyboard and vocals. They founded the band together. After Dwayne died they kept playing, recording and touring as the Allman Brothers Band. They were Southern Rock and blues.
    Doobies were also Southern Rock.

In this video, Tom Johnston singing, to the right of Tom is Tiran Porter playing bass, to left of Tiran is Jeff "Skunk" Baxter who used to play for Steely Dan and on the end is Patrick "Pat Simmons" Jeff is the one who suggested Michael McDonald to replace Tom signing until Tom got better as Michael used to sing back up for Steely Dan, that's how Jeff and Michael knew each other. Did you notice there are 2 drummers? A rare sight to see.

The Doobie Brothers were so talented that they were able to span-out into several genres of music. This song you heard was considered Soft Rock - Pop music, but they also had songs that crossed-over into other genres like hard Rock, and Blue- Eyed- Soul not many could acheive this and be so successful. Oh... I think you must have gotten your bands mixed up. Because Duane and Gregg Of *The Allman Brothers Band* were real brothers. *Gregg* was the Vocalist, Keyboardist, and *Duane* was the Lead Guitarist. Enjoyed listening along with ya'll. lol

They had more than one singer. Tom Johnston is singing lead on this song. Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons are the 2 main singers. Then Tom had some health and medical issues so they got Michael McDonald and he sang lead for awhile with Pat. Now they are touring with all 3 singers and a couple of the original band members.

The genre is California San Jose 1970s band music. Very hybrid sound. The music from the Seventies was more upbeat in tone/lyrics. It was celebratory. It showcased the fun things in life: Hanging out with your friends, driving around in your car with your girlfriend, partying, just enjoying life in general. Today's music is dour by comparison. Music reflects what is going on in a society.
