Your dip pen drawing is lovely. When I was a child in the 1950d this is the pen I learned to write with. We had white ceramic ink wells embedded in our desks. I still use dip pens today. The blobs of ink you get from using too much ink are called ink blots.

This is lovely. I used to do a lot of my art with a fountain pen. My high school art teacher actually had us start with a dip fountain pen. I'll try to find a picture, but my parents still have one I did of a wolf hanging in their house. This makes me want to get a new pen and use it again.

Those pens are the second thing to old quill pens. Dip them fill them with ink. I first learned pen and ink drawing with them, then I got a rapidiograph pen. I still use thrm for some drawings but use other pens for calligraphy. I love this mixed media

Super idea! Even kids paper like with the lined ruler paper or junk mail I’ve used to doodle or collage and I love how pretty “junk” can become endearing little art projects!

The herb you put in pickles is, as you said, dill. The pen is a calligraphy pen. I was taught at school how to use one, although I struggle nowadays because I'm out of practice. Love this - I'm going to have to have a try myself.
Your flowers looks like our dandelions after they have gone to seeds, so cute. I have used a pen like that with an ink well, but it is my great grandmothers desk set, I received when she passed, its quite old, but fun.

The flower is Dill. Love the finished product. It's just lovely 👍❤️
This pen is called a Fountain Pen. It was mostly used for calligraphy - but now artists use it for any form of drawing also. For your first time, you're doing a beautiful job. Dandelions have been my favorite to draw since I was very little. I love watching you so much for many things - but mostly because you are a lefty - and so am I. My whole life, I was taught by right handed teachers. So I developed my own style, including calligraphy. You are a wonderful teacher for me and I'm completely inspired by you, so Thank you!
Actually it is a dip pen because you dip the nib into an inkwell to get the ink. In a fountain pen there is a container contraption within the body of the pen that you fill with ink and which, hopefully, flows out when you press the nib to the paper . I prefer to use a dip pen as I think you have more control over the ink.
I stand corrected and should've said 'Dip Pen'. Sorry, Marta. I use both actually, and don't know why I said the wrong type of pen. But I will say again, for your first try at the Dip Pen, you did a remarkable job. Both type of pens are fun to draw with - knowing your sweet personality, you will love them both!

Hello Lovely Marta, I also love using a 'Mapping Pen' or Dip Pen', which goes back to the early 19th century. the mapping pen has taken place of the Quill Pen. Shakespeare used the Quill. The Quill Pen was made from a large feather with the tip of the feather sharpened to a point with a knife. The mapping pen has taken place of the Quill Pen. which was used to drawing out maps and writing back in the day and today used for creative writing, caligraphy & drawing. You need to be sure that the ‘well’ (it’s a hole in the nib just above where the nib spits into 2) is filled when you dip in in the ink. It looks like to dipped the pen and then wiped off all the ink on the napkin. The ‘well’ looked empty when you were done wiping it.

Beautiful page! You put your pen to work! I'm learning about how to better use mine by watching. The flower is likely, allium- Schubertii or Sparkler.
You will need to only use the pointy nibs. The angled ones are made for right handed calligraphy. I'm left handed too and the angles are wrong for us. I took a class and couldn't figure out why my letters were not right. Was able to buy a left handed set and it worked!

We always called them fountain pens.
Fountain pens have either an ink cartridge or a plastic refillable tube inside them. The cartridges snap into the top of the pen, just the underneath the nib. The refillable tube is filled using a little metal arm on the outside of the pen. Fountain pens don't need to be dipped, as they have their own supply of ink, and are refillable.
