I'm unable to watch this particular episode of this fantastic series . I was there constantly throughout these times and i was right behind the goal when Lorimer scored. The memories of that very painful evening still exist in my mind and at 60 i guess they'll never leave me. what i wouldn't have given just to see our footballing God, Billy lift that trophy. I'm watching all the others though, and a huge thank you for it. I'm looking out for myself and my great friend Neil who followed them everywhere with me. Neil was sat next to me in Paris that night but he died of a heart attack less than two years later aged 22 God bless him.

Beckenbauer played Jack Taylor in the 74 World Cup final as well. Said 'You're an Englishman' to him after he gave the penalty to Holland in the first minute, ie 'you're bound to side with them aren't you, but you've got a sense of fair play too'. Needless to say, a little later he gave W. Germany a soft penalty for their equaliser. But then, what player isn't in the ref's ear? What's so odd about this is that the ref gives a goal and then rules it out after a player has a whinge. Never seen that before. The 'blocked by UEFA' thing just makes it smell even worse. They probably pleaded 'copyright', but the fact that the other footage seems to be OK suggests otherwise. No wonder I can't find the game anywhere on CZcams.
On another score, I didn't know till recently that Armfield sent on Revie's team because it was 'their last chance', leaving out Duncan McKenzie, and let Revie lead out the team. Is that actually true or McKenzie's sour grapes? Pretty astonishing if it is true.

I am no Leeds fan anything but ... yet that European Cup final was rigged. I have never been so disappointed by a result and I wanted Leeds to lose at first. When Clarke was pulled down I thought it was a genuine mistake and just laughed it off. But as the game went on and as Leeds began to get more and more on top it became clearer that something was not quite right. The Lorimer 'goal' that never was convinced me that this was a conspiracy. The referee was on his way back to the halfway line and I have never before or since seen a referee change his mind apart from the introduction of VAR. There should have been a full investigation into this and the match replayed. Ironically this happened to Leeds in the European Cup in 1992 against another German team when they played an ineligible player. Maybe Leeds would not have won the replayed match who knows but the way that game was refereed was a scandal.

He pretty much put Forrest and Derby on the footballing map, so was a bigger star there than almost literally anyone.
Although he was definitely respected in Leeds, he was probably seen as a gobby twat at the time. Then expected to walk into Leeds and for the whole city to throw roses at his feet as he walked through the door for the first time, he should have, and did know better that to think he could swan in and just basically cunt everyone off.
When he came to Leeds it turned into 44 days of everyone just banging their ego's together.
We'll never know what Clough could have done if him and the team had gelled, plus a couple of his own signings?
But he blew it just as much as Leeds did, and he regretted it too later.
Anyway, it's two years after you posted, hope you made it? lol
