    Kurt just a little advise mate, they shouldn't be that hungry. Also confident pigeons aren't affected by falcons, so when they are that hungry their minds are on the food due to hunger instead of flying. When you feed lite you must give them all they can eat if feeding once a day. Indicator is feed them until 1/3 go to water then stop adding food. Hungry pigeons can't concentrate on their surroundings outside. I raced for years with falcon attacks every 2nd day, confident pigeons actually chase falcons away 💯. The key to confidence for them is feed correctly.

      over the 3 years i have tried everything i can think of, once they take a belting every day, especially as ybs it messes with them mentally big time regardless. When your getting belt up your confidence can be reduced pretty fast. see how the next few weeks pan out

      Post up a video of “your” pigeons chasing falcons away. I wanna see. Lol
      But feed wise is a 50/50 correct. Because mainly, you only need to feed them to where they start to break off and stop eating. Is when you take the food away from them. Never leave them pecking at their food for fun. And if you’re on the starving challenge to get your birds in when you call, so they get used to the call, then he’s doing it correctly for loft flying. You keep them hungry so they come back when called.
      Otherwise in most cases, they ignore the call and you actually lose more birds to bop because they’re too focused on flying and not coming home. 🤷

    • @ManeyPigeons
      @ManeyPigeons  Před měsícem +1

      fine line, i dont like them on the ground and they must come in when i call like you said the BOP does get them, generally thats when the goshawks step in and get the "ground peckers" if i lived in the city would be much easier but here we are atm lol

    • @Countrybluez
      @Countrybluez Před měsícem +1

      @@ManeyPigeons It is a fine line and not the same for everyone. Some flocks handle bop better than others, but also in some places the bop are actually just better. I was very “close” to a female peregrine falcon in my area. I knew her well because of the years of harassment. She was a true killer and extremely good at it. Some people are battling Cooper’s hawks or sharp shinned hawks and will give advice for those. It’s not the same. Fat pigeons are slow, starving pigeons don’t think right…fine line indeed.

    Hi Kurt , if u wanna get the birds loft flying longer drop the barley right back. Trust me I made the same mistake , too much barely the birds have no energy to fly. Pigeons can’t digest barley hence why it flushes them out and goes through so fast which means they don’t absorb the carbs from it. Trying to get the birds light through high barley only works for Frank McLaughlin as he doesn’t loft fly but he tosses 30-40 miles Tuesday and 80 miles Thursday so his birds are fit through tossing. U can keep birds light with low barley if u have all the other grains percentages right. That takes time to play with but once it’s nailed your birds will start rocking. Your birds flying so low because they don’t have enough energy and don’t really want to fly hence the extremely fast trapping. There starving because barley is so high.
    Hope this helps you a little 😊

    Agree they're underfed.Feed a light diet but not all barley-10% is sufficient.The birds can't concentrate on the falcons if they're distracted by the hunger.Cut the colours in the kit....u'll find deep chequers/greasy blues r the best % survivors over rough terrain.It'll b a hard path as u need constant numbers to keep up with predation and racing.The birds need to be 100% every single day....one off day n they get taken.Wish u the best.

    If your feeding regime supplies a lot more energy the birds will train very much better around the loft.. I am not convinced that those are perigrins attacking your team of birds. Perigrins attack from height mainly. Why dont you build a falcon trap and have them relocated elsewhwere? Unless you make a plan they will just get more bold and even attack the birds in the loft through the trap.

    When I used to loft fly my birds I never feed them prior to them flying , feeding creates problems when you want them in the loft , they will fly and sit around on roofs and power poles and even some will stay out and go in the next day , feeding before their loft fly is a bad idea in my opinion , you will learn probably the hard way lol , after flying and they look like wanting to go in rattle a tin with feed in it and put their feed in then they will go in as long as they are hungry and you haven’t fed them before letting them out , racing and feeding is different as distance goes on. Hope I have helped in some way other flyers may have a different approach.

    Hallo Maney, jij houdt je duiven wel heel kort. 30 gram heeft een duif per dag wel nodig. Eerste dagen vermengen met gerst. Waarom motiveer je de duiven niet om snel naar huis te komen. Speel de duiven gescheiden. Dofffers en duivinnen heel de week apart en dag van inkorving 5 minuten samen. Of als je ze toch samen laat, zet er broedschotels neer in een kistje of achter een schuine plank. Deze systemen kan je ook bij jonge duiven toepassen. Succes. Leuke video’s van je. Maybe you should not race this year and just continue to loft fly the birds and toss them and see how your losses are, eventually you will have a strong pack of birds that is able to outrun and outsmart the falcons, it will take time but it can be done. Your birds need to adapt to your surroundings/environment. The ones that adapt will teach the younger ones as well of how to be more allert for falcon attacks as well. So I would suggest continue breeding and let the falcons take out the "weaker ones". You will surely by next year this time have a strong pack of birds that the falcons won't be able to catch. Also I don't literally mean "weaker" birds but maybe birds that are more alert and able to outsmart the falcons, iv seen alot of fanciers do it that way here in South Africa.
    Also only you will know by handling your birds if they getting too much or too little feed, birds are good at acting hungry. Birds need to be lightweight in order to fly well. Heavy birds don't win races and easier for falcons to catch.
    Kind regards,

  • @harveyhull3141
    @harveyhull3141 Před měsícem +1

    You cant get fit on a feed of lettuce, you need some pasta and steak to develop muscles and fitness. Dont feed so light honestly, the weather is wetter, colder and windier, your birds are burning energy just sitting on the perch of a night to keep warmer. Feed them more and heavier, proper race mix. They look like they are starving 😮

    Unfortunately you can feed what you like keep the very best birds and you are totally wasting your time. When you're living in high hawk population areas the birds never settle or fly well. Obviously feeding food more suitable for cage birds will stop the birds from coming into form but looking at videos of how Asian people deal with such problems could help.
