Neighbors be like: remember that girl that goes to the stairwell to sing?......Yeah well I think she got possessed or smt.
Lol at this point it’d be like a regular occurrence. They probably ain’t even fazed anymore lol. Though listening to this would never get old she’s so good.
The senior citizens of the building must have been sweating profusely.
@@essianmavex7549 yeah there probably creeping out
Lmao
@@the_books_music_life3737 trueeee!
Like everyone knows this song from Supernatural but I’m over here freaking out because I know and love it from Until Dawn
I was thinking o brother where art thou
I was also thinking of Until Dawn!
I didn't even know there was a supernatural version I only heard it in Until Dawn
Por que no los dos
Look up Doc Boggs or Ralph Stanley. The song is out of Appalachia.
Man, as always, what a great cover, but this one is particularly great. This song will forever be tied to one of my favourite scenes from Supernatural ever, pure goosebumps.
Mine too! Epic scene!
One of the best scenes in television if you ask me
Same here
The og death was bad ass in that show. I loved it ever since it first aired.
Agreed! Loved that scene in supernatural and helped me appreciate this song
She nailed this song. The Supernatural version is one of my favorite versions of this song.
Supernatural is my favorite tv show ever. I've rewatched it like 20 times. The cover was incredible as well, per usual.
Bruh what you watch 15 seasons 20 time like how TF
@@freddyfardbear3194 I was extremely motivated. I drank a lot of energy drinks and only slept about 2 hours.
Okay, but Aizawa and Eri 🤲
@@nightingale3047 Bullshit
You’re my new hero, 20 times is a record I don’t think I would ever be able to beat, specially since I’ve only watched it completely 2 1/2 times, and trust me I am obssesed with the show
This is great. Never heard supernatural version but heard it in O brother where art thou
The one in Oh Brother Where Art Thou is particularly poignant as I believe it was one of the last things that singer ever recorded before his death of old age.
@@ChickenOfAwesomeThat makes it even better. Thanks for that info
I know, right?!
@@ChickenOfAwesome I do love that as a story, and I'd heard it before, but unfortunately (well, kind of fortunately, actually!) that's a myth. The movie came out in 2000 and Ralph Stanley lived on until 2016 and performed many years after the film.
He and his band, the Clinch Mountain Boys, continued touring until 2013, when he announced his farewell tour scheduled for late 2014, but after being elected a fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences juuuuuuuust before his farewell tour was supposed to start, he was inspired enough to decline retirement and I thiiiiiiiiiiink continued until his death from skin cancer.
One really interesting thing about his rendition is that it was made famous on the banjo by a singer named "Docks" Bogg, and Stanley himself was famous for his unique banjo style, which is why he was chosen to interview for the film's version. But after giving the banjo-based recordings, he begged T-Bone, the musical producer, to let him sing it "the way I want to sing it" and, in his words (I had to look this up, to copy/paste because it's great):
" I laid my banjo down and sung it a cappella. After two or three verses, he stopped me and said, 'That's it.' "
(He also won a Grammy a couple years later for the film's rendition.)
That said, for an actual true "version" of the myth (possibly where the myth about Ralph Stanley started, albeit it was a different song and different singer), the famous Johnny Cash covered the infamous Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt" in 2003, the same year he died - it was the last music video the man ever made; and as fantastic a music video as it was (and it was kind of legendarily amazing), the fact that it was the last thing Cash ever produced is overwhelmingly emotional for me. I *highly* recommend anyone go watch that video.
Exactly what I thought of from this cover.
Story Time:
you lie in bed, frail, old & dying as you begin to ponder your life choices. You were successful in your job, you married for love, and raised wonderful children that grew into successful & happy adults with families of their own. Even though you regret nothing in life, you're still scared to pass on.
Your children & grandchildren sit by your bedside with your S.O. holding your hand. With your last breath, you begin singing "Oh Death". Even with your voice being dry & stressed, you still sound great. As you sing, your family starts to shed tears.
As you reach the end of the song, enchanting & angelic singing can be heard at 2:30, finishing the final line of the song. Appearing before you is a stunningly beautiful woman in a black funeral dress with an outstretched hand. Knowing this woman was Death, you grab her hand & become ethereal. You expect Death to be cold & serious, she instead has a kind and warm smile on her face. She tells you that even though your passing on, you will see them again one day. You turn your head over to your family crying over your body. You walk away with Death with a smile & a tear rolling down your face, knowing that you will see your family again someday.
UPDATE: this song hits me harder because my grandma passed away in her sleep last Thursday. May she rest in peace.
this is beautiful. thank you
Thank you for you comment. We buried our father on saturday. 80 yrs 0ld.
@@dapperdan8085 your welcome and I’m sorry for your loss. May he Rest In Peace.
This one is going to hit me so hard. I’m underwhelmed with the original song overall but that first chorus is amazingly eerie and I know you’ll kill it.
Just from this song I can tell this Spooktober is gonna be FIRE. Good job singing this, you have a fantastic voice
I can’t believe this incredible human being asked what song we should be graced with next, I suggested this one, and like a flash she is doing it 😳😍😄🎼☠️
I’m so excited for everything you do Lauren!
what an awesome song to request! I'm so psyched to listen to this .. we know it's going to be incredible 😍

fantastic cover 🤍. now, i would love to hear "the unquiet grave" from penny dreadful. happy boo-tober! 👻🎃
Oooo me too
Great singing Lauren, wonderful voice. I haven't heard this song before, and in all honesty, I cannot understand why it would be regarded as a Creepy song. I quite liked it. The lyrics are a fairly straightforward statement of the conundrum posed by dying, even if they give death a voice of its own in one verse, and they don't seem to threaten or even shock in any way, so where the music is pleasantly dramatic and so very well vocalised, I truly can't see the association with spookiness that this series of performances is said to hold.
However, the twisted faces straining to force themselves out of the concrete walls in the background to these shots of you in the stairwell, that's something else, and how do you put up with that smell.
It really isn't a creepy song. It's a matter of fact song.
It's from Appalachia, dates at least to the 1920s (if not before). Death was, up until fairly recently, an everyday fact of life. The laying out of the body and burials were done at home.
I grew up with this song and never found it scary/creepy until Supernatural
That scene... Gives me chills. 💜
The title says CREEPY but it feels more like a hymn that brings me calmness
The supernatural version is great, but the Until Dawn version is AMAZING. This music got 100% better with you gracious voice ☺
Oh yeah 100% it's so creepy and atmospheric and i love it so much
Listen to Dr. Ralph Stanley sing it sometime.
This is definitely going to outdo even supernaturals cover of the song.
Holy crap girl... this one legitimately gave me chills. This is definitely my favourite cover you've done ❤
I always thought Jen Titus' version was haunting, but THIS is the best version I've ever heard.
OMG SUPERNATURAL VERSION !!! CAN'T WAIT
Btw I wouldn't want to be in that stairwell when she is singing this lmao.
My heart almost stopped when billy came on the first time singing this
And by the way : that was AWESOME!
Someone: *gets scared because of the siren in the stairwell*
Everyone else from that building: ah so you're new here?
At first I thought it was "O Death" as in "O Death Rock Me Asleep" attributed to Anne Boleyn
Same
I would love to hear her cover "Still Dream" from Rise of the Guardians
Oh my God! I can’t wait this is gonna be amazing.
The janitor working there, "My time has come..." only to see Lauren sing in the stairway hahaha
Do people realize this song predates the television shows and movies that featured it? And this is an incredible cover.
if this isn't sung at my funeral I refuse to die
The way she gazes makes it sound like she just lost her mind is about to enter yandere serial killer mode
my favourite version of this song hands down is still the one in "O Brother Where Art Thou"
If my reaper sings like her, i'd gladly leave this world
Maybe you should have saved this for Halloween. 😱😄
Oct. 1 is the beginning of Halloween to me 😂
@@LaurenPaley Oh, so you're also "Christmas begins the first of November" kind of guy. 😄
When your vibrato kicked in, I let out an involuntary "Yaaaaas!"
Everyone: supernatural!
Me: UNTIL DAWN!
Everyone: oh yes this is from supernatural
Me in the background: well yes until dawn is indeed supernatural lol
I know this was supposed to be creepy but dude that was peaceful as heck
I didnt even know you could do this on youtube lol
Oh yeah, A new Creepy video. * Grabs a snack. And waits..
"Oh? You know this from Supernatural?"
👍😂👍*laughs in Ralph Stanley*
anyone coming up those steps, "you know what I'll get my car later."
You just getting home after an 18 hr shift and as you walk up the stairs you hear this
someone is never going up the stairwell again 😂 very spooky and beautiful
Girl realy told the ghosts: hold my ukulele
I so hope that one day you can do the Trampled Rose in spook fashion in the stair well. The song is so haunting and I really believe you can do it more than justice.
This is awesome. Gosh, makes me miss Supernatural more and thought of binge watching it again. No one can replace how badass Death's scene was.
This is so good!
I instantly think of Until Dawn and the Dark Pictures Anthology. They need you to do this cover as their opening.
Your the reason people i'm never living in a place with a stairwell :] good job!
This might summon the pale rider himself.
You're one of the best singer's on this platform Lauren! Never stop pursuing your dreams! I CANNOT WAIT for this!!! Both you and your voice are stunnigly beautiful!
Oh yayyyyy, that's so awesomeee..
I love your voice And all creepy songs in general
This isn't creepy, it's beautiful...just that sweet voice, and what sounds like doors slamming shut in the background. Remember that Death is always near, from the moment of our birth, and he's the friend who takes us all home at the end of the long and troublesome day that is LIfe.
Your voice is so incredible, I feel almost enchanted when I hear you sing!

"Hey! is she trying to die"😶
Her voice is so beautiful- like i cant .. I cant sing TvT i sound like a dying cat
If I heard someone singing this song in an empty stairwell I’d probably freak out and call an exorcist
Is that the cold hand of the reaper i feel on my shoulder? Or is it chills from another superb rendition by Lauren Paley? 💀😈🤔
It feels so great to see her channel grow .. been here since she had around 200K subs
Why did it sound like “O’ Ten”
😂
Beautiful singing tho!
Wow, I can imagine the neighbors freaking out right now as they're trying to sleep! Oh man she's got a great voice ro sound like this!
All the people in the comments thinking this song is originally from super natural. 😅😅 this is a classic bluegrass folk song. She's doing an amazing job though btw. Great voice
That dress doing you justice ;) its cute.
Sorry, just had to check out my window to make sure I didn't see a classic Cadillac rolling up to my house...
A new imaging of the grim reaper, instead of a dark figure with a scythe, a sweet voiced maiden come to reap souls that run to her gladly.

Death's never been so enticing
That's really weird,as I found this video I was rewatching supernatural
What i remember reading, was that the girl singing in the episode of supernatural, she was just an employee in the production office, and she had a good voice
Imagine watching Supernatural and hearing this coming from the stairwell.
Supernatural was awesome in their choices of cars and their meanings to different folks. But the minute they showed Death's car, you knew he was gonna be the classiest asshole ever to walk Supernatural's fandom.
Hello supernatural fandom, it’s (slightly) nice to see you again
Wow, that was actually pretty epic
She is legit a siren bro 😰
