    I'm currently on my path to becoming a cloud engineer for Google. One thing I would add is to get a Linux certification. Once you understand Linux you understand so many aspects of the cloud and it becomes way easier to understand new concepts and technologies because most of them are run in a Linux kernel environment. It provides a great foundation.

      @@DallasFort1857 at the very least, it's not bad...at all. Actually, I would personally recommend it! It's (one of) the best I've ever heard so far. I also heard someone else with superior experience describe a similar path but with cloud architects instead.
      The main idea of paths like these is to be even more razor/laser focus towards that particular role and not put too much attention or emphasis with all that extra fluff. The extra fluffs are generally distractions (or distractors if you will), time wasters, & provide minimal ROI (Return On Investment). But with this plan, now you will be able to focus more on what actually matters; being more efficient with your time and productive with your efforts among other things.
      Of course, it would also depend on your capability to absorb the knowledge and ability of your experiences along the way as well. Assuming that's the path you're actually going for.

As a matter of fact, he should be going live soon and he releases TONS of content on the regular so it should be easy to catch him on CZcams. You can tell him I sent you. Spoke with him on numerous occasions myself. And he knows I don't sugar coat or shy away from asking him certain questions either. And I think he knows I'm also not a rookie to IT in general either. Let's say we've had long & interesting discussions. 😅
      I usually don't recommend people to others, but if I had to choose one it would be him for cloud architect roles in particular. He is part of GoCloud architects or go cloud careers and also has a degree (but I don't remember in what though...he either has a doctorate or he's a doctor, however, with about 26 years of experience in IT).

    Any reason to not do GCP and market yourself with a more unique skillset where the competition is lower. Yes there is more market share with AWS/Azure but there's also more people with those certs. GCP is going to take over, it is better but just late to the party. With Big data and ML I can't see why there wouldn't be steady wave of cloud professionals and orgs moving to GCP and it's market share doubling or tripling in 5 years.

    • @Saverrio
      @Saverrio Pƙed 3 lety

      I wouldn’t focus much on it. AWS uses Xen and Nitro for their EC2s but are partnered with VMware. You’d have to find an org that specifically wants to use VMware on the AWS stack or who is migrating from VMware to AWS at some point. You would have to establish a separate contract with VMware in order to use their services within AWS. Had to translate this same knowledge to my colleagues who wanted to use a Cisco StealthWatch vFlowSensor OVA on AWS instead of just importing it to an AMI. Even with that I don’t recommend because you can use S3 to parse logs or mirrored traffic which is vxlan encapsulated instead of a flowsensor. I’m rambling, apologies.

    Hahahahh is not as easy my friend, a company that is hiring cloud engineers always looks for years of experience, and a senior engineer should have at last 7 years of experience , 1 year of experience is nothing, you won’t get a job that offers $37/hr just having 1 year of experience
