What really did it for Strickland was his defense. I don't know if Izzy has ever faced someone so textbook and clean with their defense, Sean just wasn't leaving any holes to exploit.

Rogan seemed neutral. He was gassing Izzy up in the lead up because obviously he expected him to win, but gave Strickland plenty of credit after. Dana could learn a thing or two about not letting the bias show on your sleeve.

Yep, it should have been a 10-8 and the fact that all the judges had it a 10-9 tells you that if Sean wasn’t totally undeniable they probably would’ve robbed him. Especially because all three judges gave Izzy the second and that round was the closest of the fight.
Nah, he dropped him one at the end of the round. You have to have your opponent compromised for most of the round to get the 10-8.

You might see a curling stone slowly roll down and unload some devastation, but at the end of the game everyone goes home and not much changes. Sean dismantling Izzy in the way he did fundamentally changed the entire history of the MW division and all the matchups in it. OP is right, fight sports are unique and MMA is the most random of them all.

I know this isn't the perfect example.. But another dude who fights that whole *feint feint feint counter feint feint punch* was Johnny Walker. I remember a few years ago he fought Corey Anderson and was doing that feint feint style, and Core Anderson didn't even take the bait on any of it and just walked through him. He knew the feints mean fuck all. Just stand in front of him. Ignore the feints and work your gameplan. Sean Strickland and his corner is brilliant in catching that.

No it wouldn't have lol. It was a shot that caught him off balance and spun him around. Sean is a volume striker, not a power puncher. Notice how the follow up punches didn't really do anything, even though sean was putting everything into them. Izzy doesn't have a good chin he's just been good at avoiding clean punches.
