  • Episode 5 of 5: BENEATH KYIV.
    Ukraine... a special place in the world with many forces at play. But what direction is it going in?
    In this video we journey into the former president Victor Yanukovych's home--the embodiment of corruption in Ukraine. We then we journey into the possible future of Ukraine, a $200 million dollar forward-thinking ecosystem called UNIT City.
    This video shows the difference between the old ways of hoarding/stealing and the potential new ways of developing the youth's skills with innovation leading to a prosperous future.

    Thank you for this great video which opens ones eyes on absolutely different Ukraine!! The one which isn't shown on the TV or in the news. Few weeks ago I visited my relatives in Canada and everything they knew about Ukraine was that it's depressing, corrupted place where almost everything is destroyed with war. It took quite a while to explain them it's not like that and that Ukraine is actually very interesting place to visit as a tourist. After showing them some previous episodes of "beneath Kiev" they really got interested in visiting Ukraine in the near future :)
    I hope places like "Unit City" will become an additional motivation for smart people to stay in Ukraine and build the future here. The world changes dramatically fast and the intellectual resources are becoming the most valuable ones. Sometimes it's even funny to watch how other countries are fighting for the world's intellect, like tax-free 3 years for IT newcomers in Netherlands, express immigration to Canada for super short time etc. I have lot of friends and colleagues who decided to immigrate to more developed countries, and they don't look back being happy abroad. But I hope this migration process will stop soon and Ukraine will become more attractive place to stay in for high-skilled people.

      Andrii, Thanks for your comments! Your message here puts a smile on my face and makes me feel good since this is the result I'm trying to achieve.
      Yes, there are now reasons for Ukrainians to stay here and for some--like a few Ukrainian friends here that lived in Canada for a while--to come back and start something in Ukraine. It's not for everybody, but I don't think it's binary anymore, there are opportunities in both parts of the world, it just depends what you're working on and your values.

    One word for the mansion - - - there are some beautiful architectural features. Throughout history such lavish mansions occupied by rulers were used by them as a place to meet and impress other rulers more than for personal uses.Still a foolish waste of money. But would you want the "face" of your country on the world stage to be one of poverty? I know it is not my country and this is not intended as advice. I wish Ukraine a bright and prosperous future.

  • @Behemoth29
    @Behemoth29 Před 3 lety +3

    Why Ukraine may not have a bright future... 1/3 of the country favours closer ties with Russia, speaks Russian and is ethnically Russian. And the rights of this demographic are increasingly restricted by the current pro-EU government (no less corrupt than Yanukovych btw)... restrictions on the use of their native tongue, on their newspapers and media, on the status of their political parties. I want the best for Ukraine, but its rabidly hostile posture towards anything and everything Russian, makes it hard to see some positive outcome in the near- to midterm future.

      Кто тебе дебилу сказал что ты украинец? И почему тебя в школе на уроках истории не научили что переворот это неконституционная смена власти а не "когда участвует армия". По поводу автопарка резиденции все кто хоть что-то об этом слышал должны помнить, об этом говорилось по фактам и расследованиям на украинских каналах сразу после майдана. По тому кто "ведет" экскурсии в межигорье, а это одни майдановцы и националисты можно судить что весь сборняк они делят между собой и на поддержание тех помещений в которых они так сказать проводят экскурсии. И запомни, быть прихлебателем тех кого по своим причинам одобряет власть не значит быть украинцем.
