    So clear! I never thought about where the ball bounces off my side of the table determines where it lands...though in my attempts to serve short if I was not careful I hit the net often, so intuitively I tried to get closer to the net to achieve shorter serves. Awesome to know what’s really going on!

    One of my favourite item in my daily service sessions! My short serves are near the net, half-longs bounce at least twice the second bounce being tantalizingly on the edge and the long ones of course the same as Craig has shown.

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  Před 5 lety +1

      It depends on the spin. If long fast, with backspin or side-backspin, you could either push or loop. If long and fast with topspin or side-topspin, you could block or drive/topspin. I'll try and make a video about this at some point.

      Try to over exaggerate your aim. If you’re aiming down the line and it goes to the middle, aim off the side of the table and I’m sure you’ll get the ball into the wider position where you want it 👍

    • @DeadlyHord3
      @DeadlyHord3 Před 5 lety

      When you are serving long, make sure you contact the ball when it drops just below the net so this way your first bounce will be closer to you .. just be wary about the amount of power you generate on your blade

    Serving is so difficult for me. If I could learn how to serve, I could be a lot better. I have tried everything, but nothing works. I just have the generic, same serve, that I mix up speeds and locations on. It works in doubles, but 1v1, I get killed.
    Thanks for this video!

    • @CalvinAytch
      @CalvinAytch Před 5 lety +3

      There's no magic to becoming a good server - it's all just practice. Every time you play table tennis, do 15 minutes of just serving. Don't just serve randomly, try to reproduce the same serve a few times in a row until you are confident in the spin, placement, and speed.
      Also, don't be afraid to be creative. Serving is a very personal aspect of one's game and what works for others may not work for you. It's a chance to come up with your own serves that amplify your strengths and help to mask your weaknesses.

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  Před 5 lety +2

      So it sounds as though you have a good idea about ball placement when serving. This is good. Your next step is to develop spin variation. Start with backspin and topspin and then add in sidespin with backspin and sidespin with topspin.
