    Greg Tambone gives a brief description of German knife laws, and shows what weapons you can legally carry for self-defense in Europe. It's often believed that all knives are restricted or impossible to carry in the EU, but this video shot live in Bavaria shows otherwise. All of these tools demonstrated here by Mr. Bone are available exclusively through www.BoneTactical.com

      I dont agree 100%. Restrictions on knifes are just dumb. But i dont wanna live in a Country where everyone can carry a gun. Everyone should be able to buy guns after they are well instructet how to use Them but free carry? Nope. Also i think some weapons are just to brutal and awfull to be legal, Like poisoned Bullets or Mass killing weapons

      There have been over 300 mass shootings in the US in just 2021. There are many people who are perfectly fine to not be living around a bunch of nutters with guns.

    You can own switchblades that open from the side and have a blade under 8,5cm and the same goes for assisted opening knives the only knives you can’t own are balisong knives, gravity knives and oft knives.

    I have to correct you on one point: The 12 cm limit only applies to knives with fixed blade. If you could find a folder a 20 cm blade, which is NOT designed to be opened with one hand it would be legal to carry.

    • @BoneTactical
      @BoneTactical  Před 4 lety +2

      remember that the law is only as relevant as the officer enforcing it. Better hope they know that!

    • @linojakobsen7737
      @linojakobsen7737 Před 4 lety

      @@BoneTactical The officer himself is relatively unimportant. He can easily find some public safety argument, but he'll have to give you a receipt for the knife. The interesting part is if the public prosecutor sees the problem, which he should at the latest when he gets a letter from you thteatening to take thwm to court. The difference between Germany and USA is that the losing party gets to pay the whole bill. This is also why it is rather cheap to insure against legal fees as a private person - I pay 39 EUR a year - so there is nothing to keep me from taking them to court.
      So they'd have to give back the knife somehow.

    • @BoneTactical
      @BoneTactical  Před 4 lety

      Lino Jakobsen That’s an interesting way to look at it but I take it that you have not been to jail in Germany as I have. The officer has the ability to put you in jail not just take your knife and you have to wait potentially several months in jail to get it all figured out even if you are in the right. So contrary to what you may think it is very important at the personal interaction street level with the officer

    You missed a thing in regards to category 3:
    There are so called "Waffenverbotszonen", where even usually things you can legally carry are forbidden. In this zones the police has the right to search you for this weapons without suspicion of a crime. The problem is this are not only planes courts and things like this but every county can enatct such zones by themselves and they are often around trainstations and certain streets which are supposedly prone to crime. Now the problem is you are often not able to see that you are in such a zone. It`s more something locals know (if they know) and the knowledge is sourced from newspapers or the internet.
    Automatic knives that open to the side have one edge and have a blade of under 8,5 cm are legal (if it hasn`t changed this year since they tried to change the weapons law here and make it again more restrictive). On the other hand if you could flick it open with one hand it would be illegal.
    The maximum "normal" legal carry length for a fixedblade is 12cm (4,72 inches and yes they can be a..l about it).
    If it`s a folder that needs two hands to open it can be as long as you want it to be (if it`s not prohibited to carry because it is "intended to be used as or advertised as a weapon"). The thing with the "intended to be used or advertised as a weapon" is ia ssue of dispute but nevertheless can get you into trouble with the legal system. If you wanted to be "safe" advertise the knives as utility knives, kitchen knives or whatever but not as a self defense tool.
    In regards to knives and other self defense tools there also exists so called "BKA Feststellungsbescheide" (which is something like your ATF prohibition/legal list which clearifies the legal status of a tool, sometimes with interesting results e.g. if you look at two diifferent Feststellungsbescheide of plastic pushdaggers).
    Here is the link. I don`t know if you can find it in the english version.
    www.bk a.d e/DE/UnsereAufgaben/Deliktsbereiche/Waffen/Feststellungsbescheide/feststellungsbescheide_node.html
    I don`t link directly for legal reasons.

      @sihilius Před 2 lety +1

      I think if you ask the average police officer in a rural to semi rural area, they don't really care about that knife, unless you really behave suspiciously. In a bigger city, this might be more of an issue. On the other hand, if you ask the BKA they'll probably tell you it's illegal to carry, cause kabar advertises it as a fighting knife. If they'd advertised it for food preparation or as a box cutter it would be fine. I know, that's stupid, but that's how administrations work in Germany. Somehow they fail to acknowledge that people sometimes just buy stuff based on how cool it looks or what other functions it could serve, rather than for it's marketed to be. If you went to court because of that thing, you'd probably lose.
      Keep in mind that this is just my guess based on my experience and NOT legal advice.

    One handed knives are not illegal to own or carry if they are non locking ( like the Spyderco UK Penknife, Pingo, or Squeek), locking knives are legal but you need to use two hands to open. Side opening automatics are legal to own ( but not carried) when there bladelenght is equal or below 85mm. Single edged fixed knives are legal equal or smaller then 120mm. There are some bladestyles forbidden like the karambit, butterfly and the classic Italian Stiletto side opening knife. Sometimes local governement will make (temporary) laws banning knives at large gatherings, the underground u-bahn, etc.

      @@BoneTactical I realize it may not be a common knife people ask about so appreciate the reply.
      While I don't carry it around town it does cause a reaction when people see it compared to say a hatchet, axe, and machete simply due to thier unfamiliarity with it, but I prefer it precisely because I can use it for most the work I would do with a hatchet, axe, and machete.
      At least with the forest Nata.
      The Garden Nata not so much.
      By the by, it is also not a bad defense weapon for a person who has the size and control for it.
      The ones I have are all hand forged and handled with no decorations or adornment and sheathed in basic functional holders to express their status as tools and not be mistaken for something else . Where I live this functional display has saved me alot of hassles while traveling from point A to point B with it, even if the trip is on foot through the city.
      Besides for defense my lead cored rosewood and hickory short handled mallet makes a good legal carry defensive weapon on par with a rubber truncheon for directed mechanical force while not looking the least bit worrisome.
