Let me say this.. I've been in Switzerland for 3 years now. I learned Swiss German and now can speak it fluently (yes it's possible) in a way that locals are surprised when I speak. Moreover I'm also fluent in French, English and Italian and am very outgoing. I made some Swiss friends in the beginning but it turned out to be complicated as they didn't have time that much or wanted to plan a daily hiking trip 2 month in advance. At work I haven´t made a single friend. I went to some meetup, that's where I got to know a couple of people which I´m still friends with. But still I have just one swiss friend and just a few friends in total. For being here for so long and being integrated that much I find it very very difficult to build up friendhips here. People are very friendly but it often feels unimpossible to break the ice. The most funny thing is that swiss people are the only once I know who think Germans are open people. They are not! But compared to swiss people they probably are. :) By the way, in the french part and italian part it might be a little easier to socialise but keep in mind Switzerland remains Switzerland. I love everything about Switzerland, it's a great place but if socialising is a big thing for you think twice to move here.

In the end finding friends is mostly on the person seeking. If you are a great human that is fun to be around you will find friends. If you are bad company then don’t wonder people don’t want to hang out with you. I have lived in several countries and there are always people who just can’t fit in and find friends.

I am Swiss. The one with the 2 months in advance is in my opinion just an excuse. These people just want to appear super busy and that they have so many friends. This got worse and worse with social media!! I bet it's a little bit like that in other countries too, but not as bad as in Switzerland. I organised a weekend trip with many people (Swiss and foreigner). I planed 2 months in advance. Guess what, I got critisized by Swiss people for the short frame of organisation. If I had not my elderly parents I would move to another country...

this video gave me real hope, you guys!! thank you! 🤗🤗 it is interesting that at some point a Swiss woman said the expats tend to hang out in groups and therefore harder to get into, while the whole time we, expats think the same about the Swiss :)) so I guess being more open will not hurt when putting yourself put there - be it in a class, club, sport event, etc.

I had an interview with a company in Zürich last week and one of the interviewers told me that if Swedes has a 2 meter rule (for not interacting with other people) then the Swiss have a 5 meter rule! That's how introvert Swiss are (apparently). Still, I go clubbing, I like day-raves (dancing), I'm social, speak german and I am sort of an extrovert, so I see this opportunity, should I get this job, as a "challenge accepted" to make Swiss friends... 😁😅 Thanks for the video guys, you're awesome!

I came in Zurich last year from Ukraine and I didn't expect, that it'll be so difficult to make friends here. I'm attending intensive Deutschkurs and can speak some German already. But again, the language barrier is still there, cause people speak Swissdeutsch in normal life and don't necessarily want to switch all the time. A lot of times I feel discouraged to go to events with Swiss people, cause I don't want to be that person, that forces them to switch from their native language.

No hards feelings towards Switzerland, cause I live here since 9 years and I like it. In the meantime I am fully integrated, I speak Swiss German, joined Vereine, work for a swiss company and I am the only foreigner in the office. I always had a very swiss hobby, mountains. I also organise sometimes social events and join events organised by the others. I have few international friends and many international acquaintances. Swiss friends? Zero. At the beginning I was telling myself that it's my fault cause I dont speak the language, but now I know it's the fault of the Swiss. They are simply not likable and very cold.
