I've started feeding more veggies to my shrimp, and they LOVE them. Their favorite is kale. To prepare the veggies, I have found that 3-5 minutes submerged in plenty of water in the microwave is adequate for kale, cucumbers, and zucchini. It's not just about making it sink. The shrimp are attracted to the softened leaves.
When I make kale smoothies (for me, not the shrimp), I remove the thick central stem by cutting or pulling off the leafy part. There is always plenty of leaf left behind on the stem. I cut that into 2-inch sections, boil them and freeze them.
When I want to feed my shrimp, I pull out a section and drop it in the water. If it doesn't fall to the bottom, I use my long forceps to place it where I can watch them eat. They eat everything--even the stem, leaving behind only very thin fibers that I assume are too tough for them to pick apart. That's the only part I remove a day or so later. They are very efficient.

That looks like a garden grown cucumber. Not a supermarket seedless genetically modified cucumber. I am sure that will make all the difference!

its frogbit....i have salvinia in my tanks and it is bigger and has quite a root structure that hangs a little over an inch...my shrimp love it and hang from it all day but it can quickly over run a tank if you let it

Boiling works best for cucumber, kale, or zucchini. I zap them in the microwave for a few minutes.
