    Awesome review, thank you. On the back of the tent that is not a guy line connection, it is where the fly gets connected to the tent pole to hold the fly off of the tent body. Hence the little ball on the other side of the loop. 🙂

    Vince Mares was the designer along with Phil Mesdag and myself with the MOJO UFO project. At the OR trade show we actually floated the tent with a balloon inside. Had alot of press as no one had done that before. When they came to market the tents were all purchased by Pros to my recollection and were gone within a month or so. We did produce a normal MOJO line of tents with NSL poles and 20d fabrics ( Non spectra fabric, non carbon poles ). The trail weight for 2p was 2 lbs 11oz which is still lightweight for a free standing tent these days. I believe Vince still has a prototype UFO that wasn't stitched but the seams are glued which shave off even more weight but never made it to production.

      How often do you spend significant amounts of time in your tent in the middle of the day? I'm usually hiking during the time where direct sun heating up my tent would be an issue. DCF tents cool down fine in the evening when there is no longer high mid-day sun on them.

    Just received my Durston X-Mid Pro 2 and my X-Mid 2 last week. Tried out the X-Mid 2 this weekend and loved it. Gonna go for a 37.5 mile hike this weekend in the Ouachita Mountains this weekend and try out the X-Mid Pro2.....these things are super light and should do me good. I retire from the VA in Nov 2024 and in the spring I am planning on thru hiking the Appalachian trail....gonna be a fun time!

  • @danforthrhodes8960
    @danforthrhodes8960 Před 19 dny

    Luke, I always enjoy your videos. I have one suggestion. Please give viewers some other products to compare with after you have reviewed an item. For example, if you reviewed something that is maybe "top of the line" then maybe give us some less expensive alternatives and/or similar top of line alternatives in case that item is out of stock. Your expertise can really help novice campers from purchasing something that's not what we need so comparisons really are beneficial. Campers & preppers tend to accumulate 3 or 3 of everything (sometimes 10 😅) which gets very costly. I know you don't have sponsors or an agenda but comparisons & recommendations for similar items would be very beneficial IMO. Thanks! Dan

    never mind titanium, you can replace the aluminum stakes with carbon fiber stakes (I got mine from Dutchware Gear) you can save weight by ditching the storage bag. important note: DCF (Dyneema Composite Fabric) is not invincible no matter what the sales brochure says. it can be punctured by twigs and stakes and it can wear out from abrasion. Dutchware primarily focuses on camping hammock supplies, but there's a lot of crossover products, such as the carbon fiber tent stakes, tarps, and down quilts, and an entire section devoted to DIY, so if you wanted to make your own DCF tent, or bags, packs and pack covers, rain gear, or whatever, you can get it there and certain fabrics you can get printed. I bought a Silpoly tarp from them printed with my own camo design for example.

    Super Cool, I have never heard of it. I used to work in an outdoor store in the late 90's, Sierra Designs had this class workers in the industry could take, including a test. If you passed it, you were entered into the "8000 Meter Club", which gave you a Prodeal, a frisbee, t shirt, and some other swag. I still have the frisbee (shirt wore out long ago). I got a Alpha CD 4 season hybrid tent and 0 degree down bag with the Prodeal, think I paid less that $400 for both cobined, which was about 60% off.

    Interesting tent and one I haven't seen before. Impressively light and I don't doubt it can handle snow, but I wouldn't call it four season with the fly design and relatively few fly to pole connections. Wouldn't want to use this above tree line in high winds. Stil would want one even at that price.

    $2400 for a tent, I think I'm buying a RBM hot tent. I carried a Sierra Designs on my AT thru-hike in 1998; it weighed about 5 pounds total. But brand new it only cost $180 and to this day is still 100% waterproof and reliable. Weight savings is nice, but there's a limit on your comfort as well that a pound or two extra could surely cure: it's a tradeoff.

    Uncle Sam was nice enough to give me a free tour of North Dakota. ND has, hmm, lets count seasons; winter, August 15th. Thats it. Two seasons, teo season tent.

    Walmart has a new higher end 1 person backpacking tent. I just bought it but I'd like to see a video on it. Nobody has reviewed it yet

    I can see its benefits, as I’m a backpacker…….BUT I’d rather some of the more secure components of a heavier tent that provides protection in colder climates (I also live in the PacNW where weather patterns can change in an instant!).

    Wow, what a tent! Pricey but bet the air flow in summer it's worth the price! Might not be very private though if changing clothes with a lantern on inside it?

    Except for that price....even back when it was 1st introduced.....it seems like a great tent. Dumb question: Is that price due to what materials are used in it's construction or the name? Personally, I wouldn't spend that much on a tent. Maybe $300, tops. The rest i would spend on other gear but that's my opinion. Thank you for another great gear review.
