King George III didn't start going mad until after the American Revolution-he was perfectly sane during the war. He was really not a terrible king, until he lost the colonies and began suffering from a sickness that historians debate over-some say he had porphyria. Other sources claim that was outdated information and that he had bipolar disorder, but we can't be too sure. Obviously, medicine back then was terrible, so he only got worse until finally he had to give up the throne to his son.
