    This is our final regularly-scheduled PRODIGY episode of the 2018-19 season. (There's a special event planned on July 20th "For Littles Only," but other than that, we're off for the Summer after today's episode.) And as usual, we take this week to acknowledge the important role PARENTS play in the development of their youth bowlers. Without supportive parents, youth bowling would not be as strong as it is in this country. So on today's show, we open up the field to let the parents, coaches and anyone else with a connection to youth bowling into the field.
    Adults and youth bowlers each competed in separate divisions, and the top five grown-ups and the top five kids advanced to the show today, where they were paired up into doubles teams.
    Since The Coveted Trophy Pin was awarded last week at the PRODIGY TOC, there was nothing to win and nothing to sign, but the winner on today's show gets to take the satisfaction of knowing they claimed bragging rights on the final regularly schedules PRODIGY event of the season.
    They're bowling 9-pin no-tap on the house shot, so you can bet the strikes are flying everywhere and the scores are high. So sit back and enjoy today's show.
    Your play-by-play announcer is USBC Silver Certified Coach and the Creator of PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR, former PBA member Coach Randy Brown. Randy serves as the Volunteer Youth Director at Bowlero Roswell in Roswell, Georgia.
    As always, your comments are welcome. We only ask that you keep your remarks positive. Critiques are fine, but keep them helpful, not hurtful. Enjoy your Summer!

    Thank you for another great season of PBT. The obvious care and effort you put into these productions is very much appreciated. I love watching Annalise O'Bryant bowl. She has such good fundamentals , yet she doesn't appear the least bit stiff or forced-it's very free flowing. That's a heck of a combination. Best of luck to her and all the other PBT bowlers at Junior Gold.

    Hey randy I know this doesnt have anything to do with the video but I was wondering if there was anything I could do to stop grabbing at the ball with my thumb. I've had this problem for a few years now and I was wondering if there was anything to do about since it makes my thumb swell and blister

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  Před 5 lety +2

      When I put my hand in the ball, I actually feel like I'm pressing the BACK of my thumb against the back wall of the thumbhold before I begin the push away. And I just keep the thumb super relaxed. In order to be able to do this, you really must have a properly fitted ball. A properly fitted and drilled ball will hold on to you; you don't have to hold on to it. The thumb is not supposed to HOLD the ball; it's supposed to GUIDE the ball.

    Hey Randy. Have a question about one of the parents of the bowlers. Doug O’Bryant. I recall you saying that he is a USBC Silver Certified Coach and coached Annalise. Possibly even some of the bowlers at their original center. When Annalise moved over to Bowlero Roswell for league, did he become apart of the coaching staff there? If not, at least there’s some old guy who’s also a Silver Certified Coach. (You call yourself an old guy often... idk)

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  Před 5 lety +1

      Doug and I were in the same class for both our Bronze and Silver Coaching Certifications. He's a great guy, and obviously, very knowledgeable. These coaching certification classes tend to be better or worse depending on who you're lucky enough to have in your class. In my Silver class, I had both Doug and Stoney Baker, who owns Cherokee Lanes in Canton, GA where Doug and Annalise still bowl quite often. Stoney is usually in the mix in most any PBA 50 or Senior bowling tournament in this area. He's awesome. And for both him and Doug to be in my Silver Coaching class was a real boon for everyone who was there. Their experience bowling in professional tournaments meant they shared a wealth of knowledge with everyone. It was fantastic.
      When Doug first contacted me about bringing Annalise over to bowl in our league at the halfway point of the season, I knew that he would primarily coach Annalise. He's not really a part of our coaching staff, per se. But Annalise has friends on her team, so it's only natural that Doug will occasionally offer to help them. So there are a couple of kids who benefit from his presence. But he doesn't wander the lanes and look to coach kids throughout our league. I would welcome it if he did, but I understand -- he's there for Annalise. If I had a daughter who bowled like Annalise, I'd want to be there for her, too. :-)

    Coach randy I have a question how do you qualify for junior gold or do you have to sign up

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  Před 5 lety +1

      It varies in each state. But you don't just sign up and register for Junior Gold. You have to win a spot. Here in Georgia, we have the Georgia Youth Bowlers Tour (GYBT), which holds monthly qualifiers on the first Sunday of every month August thru May and then holds their own TOC the first weekend in June (they take July off). The number of spots they award each month is proportionate to the number of entries in each division. GYBT is one of the biggest, and is certainly the most professionally-run organization of its kind in the country. But there are others. Best bet is to check Bowl(dot)com under Tournaments for Junior Gold and find the state qualifiers to find the methods of qualifying that are available where you live.

      John, you're welcome to contact me at randy(at)prodigybowlerstour(dot)com. But we're basically through with PRODIGY for the Summer. We do have one more PRODIGY event planned for July 20th, but it's a "For Littles Only" (just little kids), so I think you may have aged out of that one. We'll start Season 4 sometime around Labor Day. Nothing etched in stone yet.

    the 'no tap' thing to me is weird... I dont really get why you'd consider a 'strike' for 9 pins..getting a 300 in this fashion isnt really 300 lol.
    I was getting 9's on a military base i worked and we were doing a team building thing.....they were counting 9's as strikes..when i posted a 260 something i think it was (i think 3 of my 9's were counted as strikes) i felt dirty... like it wasnt really my score...but i still had the highest score that series ^_^
    Still, i think its great what Prodigy does and the message Troup had for the parents and kids was very enlightening, we need more of that in youth sports everywhere!

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  Před 5 lety

      Gilbert's first 300 in qualifying included 11 "natural" strikes and just one no-tap strike. And in the third game seen here, of all the strikes that were thrown by the winning team, only one was a no-tap strike.

      Sorry to see there are still fossils out there who have not come to appreciate what a clearly superior way to bowl two-handed is. So do you still play golf with hickory shafts and gutta percha balls? Get a clue. And if all you have to add to the conversation is negativity, take it to another channel. I ain't got time for it here. We've all moved on from your short-sighted views that are steeped in the past. You are relegating yourself to the dust bin of history.
