Floor Jansen is just an... otherworldly stage presence. Saw them earlier this year with her in her 3rd trimester and about a year after her breast cancer surgery. She nailed every note, including Greatest Show On Earth, which demands an incredible amount of stamina under normal circumstances. If you see interviews with her, she's so soft-spoken and humble and on stage she just transforms and the audience with it.
It was the first time I saw Nightwish with her. And it's a bit of a shame because since Marko Hietala left and seems happy in retirement, it is not that likely I will ever see them duet together. Hietala once said that Jansen is the only one he can sing with without having to hold back to not overpower the other. And... it really show. Both are putting unhuman amounts of energy into this performance.
Another thing (and the last one, I promise, I got into ramble mode here): Just how... incredibly lucky has Tuomas Holopainen (keyboarder & composer) been to have had Floor as lead and Hietala - whom many bands would commit crime to have as their lead vocalist - as the ridiculously luxurious "backup" vocalist? And with Holopainen both Nightwish and the world was lucky. Sorry for the pathos, but I will just cherish their performances for decades to come.
Excellent observation. The stamina and energy to perform just this song is more than some bands can muster for an entire set!
They performed this song at a concert I was at about 18 months ago. Lucky enough to be in a small venue and be up close and personal with Floor only a few feet away. She blew my mind on this performance. Highlight of the concert.

I think when you love to perform, and it's not just a job for you, it's easier to bring that energy. And then your energy gives the crowd energy, who gives it right back. I think that's why their live shows are so great. They never look like they're just going through the motions, like it's just another performance.
Floor (married to the drummer of Sabaton, actually), in particular, absolutely loves performing. It's why she's not particularly happy that Nightwish are currently taking a break from touring, and why she's back to doing solo shows, less than two months after giving birth to her second child.
Floor is married to the drummer from Sabaton, Hannes Van Dahl. This is Marko. He does play both guitar and bass. This one of the more intense songs from Nightwish. Floor is doing lots of belting in this one. All the best Jules!
My steadfast NW favourite. Solid Nr.1 performance that never gets old. Floor btw, came tt Netherlands last Friday to unleash her inner wolf on stage. She described it as a very welcome nappy break (only 9wks after giving birth). As a matter of fact, there were two Jansen wolves on stage.
Floor had brought her "little sister" Irene as a special guest and man... Absolute fire, the two of them (that version of "Daydream"..). If I say that a "Jansen & Jansen" album is an instant buy for me, it would be the umpteenth comment in this vein. So many ppl were totally blown away by the Jansen pack. HowL! 🤘🐺🤘

Jansen & Jansen should start a band. Invite another Jansen & Janssen (unfortunate misspelling, eh) from Epica. They'll probably need a drummer too. Hmm... no idea.
This epic return of the queen is a great conclusion of the year. After all the turmoil, she's ending it on a high note. Irene kinda beat her to that though... Next year will allow her to rest and hopefully come up with something interesting. Future looks bright, more or less.😊

Marko is the bassist, second vocalist. If you really want to hear what he can do vocally, take a listen to the tribute to Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" that they did in the End of an Era concert. He and Floor compliment each other so well in their vocals. There is contrast, but yet, they weave in and out of each other's vocals that it all seems to come together as one.

Hi Jules!!!! Love your channel!!! I am an old Rock & Roll fanatic from way back in the early 1960's! My best friend, of over 60 years now, and I used to do our homework together, and we listened to Jimi Hendrix ( You really need to go find some Jimi Hendrix on CZcams, and see what an innovative guitar player and vocalist he was!!! Then there was Led Zeppelin ( the mega hit, "Stairway To Heaven" ) and many more hit songs.
I discovered Nightwish nearly 5 years ago, and at 66 years young, I still love rock, hard rock, Heavy Metal, and now Symphonic Metal! Nightwish is without a doubt the best band I have seen! The diversity of music that Toumas writes is totally amazing!

Based in part on Stephen King's "The Wolves of Calla" - Dark Tower series. Marko Hietala, on bass, sings with Floor here. Tuomas plays keys and composes most of their material. Kai Hahto on drums. Emppu Vuorinen on guitar. Troy Donockley cannot play hockey - but just about anything/everything else. I've seen Floor windmill for 21 turns!! I'd be lying down after 10! See Floor's face at 9:11 !? Gonna eat the venue! Don't know how Tuomas can windmill and play so hard at the same time!

In this same concert they performed, ghost love score, the poet and the pendulum and greatest show on earth, all more than 10 min long and very high energy songs!!!

Only the title. From what I have read the lyrics don't really match the story. Tuomas is an avid reader and often uses literary sources as inspiration for songs. One of my favorite is Edema Ruh from the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album. Inspired by the Patrick Rothfuss. In teh novels the Edema Ruh are a nomadic band of entertainers who travel throughoutthe Four Corners of Civilization performing music and plays. Tuomas clearly sees Nightwish as a real Edema Ruh. As far as stamina goes, this band is something else. I saw them last year and their “encore” was a 13 minute song followed by a 26 minute song. And it sounded amazing.
I mean.. I've got news for you; that's not an encore, that's just part of the planned set list :-P
They have said many times they don't do encores - the 2 megasongs - Poet & Pendulum plus Greatest Show are their closing epics
Tuomas writes songs as they were movies so there is always some story he wants to tell, then he finds rest of song.

Another recommendation from Finland is JP Leppäluoto. He is an amazing singer with a really rich low-end baritone voice, and naturally has a bit of an operatic sound. His solo song "Kuoppa" ("Pit" in Finnish, used in the context of the song as a grave) is a good example of his range, as well as "Dance With The Dragon" or "I Once Had Wings" from his time with Dark Sarah, where he plays the role of the Dragon.
Always expect variation. This is symphonic metal, which means you get movements.

I'm a bass player and ex sound engineer and i can see and feel this energie what in my opinion only can happen if you play with musicians who have this same energie and skills to make magic on stage. It's their unity what make's them so g#%$mn powerfull.🤘

No she's married to the drummer in Sabaton, Hannes Van Dahl. Tthe basist singing is Marko Hietala. Rest of the band is Toumas Holopainen on keyboards and the mastermind behind the music, aka Metal Mozart. Drummer is Kai Hahto. Guitar is Emppu Vuorinen. Their multi-musician is Troy Donockley.
My wife chose this as My Song - it's an object lesson for people like me, who tend to believe disaster is at the door. She says "you've got 7 days - are you going to spend them cowering, or live life?" And you know what? It works! Anyway, glad to see you pick up on the showmanship as well as the music, it's a whole package. Sometimes reactors come to it when they are still hypnotised by Floor and miss most of that. Great reaction! Song is about living your life to the fullest as the wolves, i.e. death, is always nipping at your heels and you never will know when it will come for you. I saw them live in Boston May of 2022 and this song was amazing live. Clearly one of Floor's favorites and sill awesome even though Marko was no longer with the band. By the way, Floor's hair whips or spins are called windmills because she is Dutch after all!

Dark Passion Play is the first and only album of their I've listened to and I love it. Not sure what's keeping me from the rest of their stuff.
One thing I like about this song is how it flows into the next one, Meadows of Heaven.
Floor's husband is actually playing drums in a band called Sabaton. Sabaton making songs themed on historical events like 2nd WorldWar and so on. you should listen to them also: 40:1 is amazing song from Sabaton!!!
Some Tuomas linguistics: "dead children" = children that no longer exist, because they have become adults.
This becomes clear for the first time in "Dead Boys Poem" he wrote when he was 22 and is a recurring theme throughout his life. My guess it revolves about the loss of innocence that is also a recurring theme.

Floor isn't married to bass player/ singer Marko, but her marriage is tangentially related to Nightwish, as her husband is the drummer for Sabaton, and they met when the bands were touring together. Marko and Hannes both have long blond hair, so you might confuse them from behind 😂

She has the most amazing, chill inducing, unusual, atavistic voice alive today. Suggest going to her CZcams page to get a video. Suggest starting out with Cant Help Falling in Love, her cover of the Elvis Classic. You will have to pause and maybe use a filter over the video, as it is on a Russian TV singing competition.

As a singer, you can appreciate the extreme opening of the jaw.
As a dentist, that makes me cringe (unless well practiced, that's a recipe for disaster in the temporomandibular joint)
