      Sadly it's because dentistry for the longest time started off as as a scam that was performed with traveling circus's. A lot more people died than were relieved from these particular dentist. For some reason it still kind of persists today And affects our laws are financing and the way the way we still don't legitimize dental cleaning or treatment.
      Some will claim that a lot of dental practices and beliefs have not been then pure reviewed or fully studied but don't seem to cause a harmful effect.And it's not that there aren't studies about dental cleanings and practices it's more so kind of like the issue she addressed about mouthwashing before or after brushing your teeth in another video. Even mouthwash will say it can cause cavities.But the reasons why are a little more nuanced and complicated.A lot more research needs to be done to legitimize dental practiceSadly it's also very underfundedBecause people think it's just basic and there's really nothing more to learn about the teeth just clean them scrape them and put floride on them or rip them out. It's more so how legislation looks at what should or shouldn't be funded same thing with the administration and businesses that may be running some research departments.
      Vision care though has a lot more research and still gets a lot of the same treatment as dental. Like how do we Not need to see and still expect to have a job and manage our lives there are lives especially in the United States where driving is so important for getting anywhere

    @Teeth Talk Girl My dentist literally saved me from an early death. He identified some "characteristic" changes in the bone in my jaw that suggested sleep apnea. I got a sleep study based on that and was told I have "moderate to severe" sleep apnea when sleeping on my side and (probably) extremely severe sleep apnea when sleeping on my back. It's a diagnosis that will lead to treatment that extends my life by 20+ years. That dude is a fricken hero as far as I'm concerned!!!! So many of the professionals in your industry perform this kind of service, and based on that I can't help but thank all of you for being awesome!

    I recently went and got X-rays, a deep cleaning, a laser treatment, and a crown because of a cracked tooth. I’m so glad I went because I feel so much better after having them cleaned! It’s been a while since I’ve had insurance, and it was really difficult to imagine paying thousands of dollars for something I couldn’t afford anyway. It’s unfortunate that we have to worry about whether or not to take care of our physical needs because we have bills!

    I’ve been to the dentist once in my entire life & it was just a consultation to see how much it would be to fix my teeth. I did that when I was 22. I’m now 28 & I’ve never had a cleaning. This video has terrified me because I have some pretty bad tartar build up on my 4 bottom front teeth. I do plan to get my teeth fixed this year. They’re very crooked & they look dirty even after brushing & flossing and it makes me feel extremely self conscious. I think I will feel 100x better if I even just had teeth that appeared clean.

Actually, thinking about it, I think most valuable things that deal with real life are not taught in the 13 years of school we all usually get. I think explaining the mess that can happen if you have cavities or worse and how expensive and what a drag it can be to your life and health is a really important lesson.

    I need to get a deep cleaning in a few weeks and I am embarrassed about how my teeth got this way. Luckily, the dentist told me I have great bone structure, I just have a lot of plague that's on my teeth and need a deep clean. I know that it won't be terrible and my teeth will feel amazing after, but my nerves are out of control. :(

    I dread going to the Dentist (sorry just had few bad experience) but with my upper back teeth both side starting to give me pain while eating I had mo choice. This time I went to the new Dentist and she was amazing. Treated my aching tooth and also did deep cleaning at the same time (commenting few tines that I have beautiful teeth.
    But now my lower back teeth feel sensitive when eating... I did feel a sharp shooting pain (current) when she was cleaning that tooth.
    I am willing to give it few days to go back to normal cause they were never a problem before. Should I be worried? Cause it is making eating a dreadful experience now😣

    I went to the dentist every 6 months for cleanings. I floss after every meal. I brush 2 to 3x per day. I literally only have 4 small cavities in my mouth, and yet, I have horrible periodontal disease with bad bone loss around all my molars. I am now going to be having flap surgery with bone grafts on every molar in my mouth.
    I also have the autoimmune disease, oral Lichen Planus which has attacked my gums and cheeks with horrible blisters and sores keeping my gums very inflamed.
    Bottom line is, you can still do all those things to care for your teeth, but hormones and a poor diet are the true culprits of this. The better I eat, sticking to a strict whole foods diet instantly tightens my teeth and gums while balancing my hormones. It also stops the Lichen Planus dead in its tracks.

    What is the full name called of the Perio Graph? that measures the gums line to the bone level? If the bone level is below the middle level of all the teeth, it will make the Millimeters a 4 or 5 because of the prior bone loss. What I mean is your gums and teeth can be 100% good but since you have minor bone lose which the bone level is below the midway level point of the teeth the millimeters probing depths will be 4 or 5 because of the bone loss? This can be a "false Positive" to tell a customer they need a deep cleaning when really they don't because its just prior bone loss even if their gums and teeth are 100% good? What I mean is that Millimeter probing depth numbers that are 4 or 5 can give False Positive results by thinking the customer needs a deep cleaning when really they don't. Is this True or False?

    How long should Periodontal charting take? The hygienist was naming numbers (almost all 4s) out faster than the other tech could input them. The whole thing (3 numbers for each tooth) took maybe almost a minute and while I couldn't see what was going on, it definitely didn't feel like she was pushing the probe into the gums at all teeth... (or nearly any teeth) more like just moving it in front of the gum line and estimating based on maybe a few actual probings in the beginning...
    Also, I'm advised for a D4346, which of course costs more, isn't preventative and therefore not covered 100%, and uses up some of my max. But I didn't have bleeding and the gums don't "look" inflamed. This seems to be a way to capture funds to justify a deep cleaning, rather than just doing what's needed and billing D1110. I'd rather they just bill (2) D1110s as separate appointments for half the mouth each appointment... that way they get paid more but it stays "preventative".

    I had gum pocket that was at 5 or 6mm and the hygienist said my bottom front gum were inflame. So I agree with a deep cleaning $740 out of pocket. 6 weeks later I went back for free evaluation she said it improved a lot better and is at 3 and few 4mm at most the gum pocket depth and my teeth was polished. However she recommend me to go back after 4 months for a periodontal cleaning instead of 6 months regular cleaning. Also said if my teeth is better after 4 months, I could go back to the regular 6 months regular cleaning.

My dentist has never said anything about gingivitis after seeing my xrays so I am not sure if I should be concerned or not. Also after my last dentist appointment my dentist said I had no issues with my teeth but I am not sure how seriously I should take that, I have slightly stained teeth (no idea how to whiten them although I would love to know how) and again I have some signs of gingivitis but no inflammation of my gums or anything like that.

I'm now cleaning like crazy, brushing for well over the recomended 2 minutes, because I wanna make 200% sure nothing is left behind. Then I go in between the teeth with a smaller brush and in other place with dental floss. And to finish I use mouthwash. Now I'm gonna go crazy if she still finds stuff on my teeth or under the gum, coz I never wanna go through that deep cleaning ever again. That numbing thing made my hands and my whole body tremble 😯

      Thank you for your kind comment! Visiting your dentist regularly - and taking their recommendations is the best advice I can give! Routine home care plus going to the dentist regularly! Hope this helps! Thank you again!

    Omg I went to the dentist few days ago I’ve always had good teeth I just never flossed so the dental hygienist told me I need a deep cleaning because she saw inflammation and wants to prevent periodontal disease but I don’t think I need it ? I have no tar no redness and when she was counting the measurements I was 0-4? Do you still recommend it because I am terrified!

    When I had a deep cleaning or SRP, they did it on both sides in one go. I guess maybe it's cause I had mostly 2s and 3s with a few 4s and 5s...

    How come a lot of cavities don't show up on x-rays. I've literally had them X-ray me not find a cavity but then when they went to either replace a filling or actually looked in my mouth they saw cavity and drilled.. I've always wondered if maybe one of those cavities wasn't just something they saw . Like at 1 point they said point they said that there was a cavity right on the edge of one of my teeth but almost between them . So they went ahead and drilled but nothing showed up on the x-rays like they actually argued about it with each other for a bit.
    I kind of get with fillings as maybe they show up on an X-ray and if a cavity starting to form underneath it May not show. But I've seen many times where cavities just are not detected on x-rays even when they're already hurting and causing sensitivity to the patient

    You didn't mention the difference between prophylaxis and periodontal maintenance. I've been paying for the latter ever since I starting having gum problems several years ago. Please explain the difference between the two procedures and how much each procedure should cost. In other words, how much does each procedure cost in the office where you work.

      Great video idea! I tried to make this a simple video for the "new patient" periodontal exam. But, I will definitely consider making a more broad "different types of cleanings" video with mentions of price differences. Thank you again!

    After SRP, from your experience, does the bone actually grow back? And what about the gums - do they grow back any? And how many times do you need to do SRP? Every 6 months?

    • @TeethTalk
      @TeethTalk  Pƙed 3 lety +1

      bone will not grow back with a deep cleaning - however the gums generally will fill in the spaces. the goal is that you won't need deep cleanings routinely if you are properly maintaining healthy gums - however things happen and sometimes certain patients will - but there is not a 1 size fits all - case by case scenario. hope this helps!

    On a scaling above gum line, for removing tartar, is antibiotics needed, there is bleeding of gums that are senitive.

      Hi there! Sometimes it is indicated with certain heart conditions, for example, that premeds are needed for dental cleanings. Filling out the medical history is critical at the dentist, so we can best determine if you're someone who requires premeds. Also, talking with your GP about this, is a great idea also! Hope this helps!

    • @TeethTalk
      @TeethTalk  Pƙed 5 lety +2

      It totally is not painful! We numb you up to make sure you're comfortable. The gums may feel a little tender after (similar to how your muscles feel after you work out). Hope this helps! Sending positive vibes!

    Wished my providers would explain things as clearly as your videos. Or at least provide me w/ some written instructions/education. When I sit in the chair waiting, I'd be happy to watch/read about this sort of topic. BTW, my numbers are 4 mm and less and my dentist has started me on SRP ---I'm going along w/ it but something tells me that he's being pressured by "corporate".

      @@DanielP2012 Me too! Creepy corporate scam. The hygienist did a good job of "first time eval" (they bought my old dentist's practice, which was thriving... I guess they threw my records OUT!) and she thought things were good, but freaky dentist comes in and is talking about this cutting gums thing! I'm looking for another dentist AFTER they do a regular clean. (Dentist won't get near my teeth, though. I just want some bang for my buck.)

    Does inflammation from an autoimmune disease have any effect on gum inflammation? I had a couple of 5s and was told I needed deep cleanings every three months- at $400 a pop I'm not ashamed to say I can't afford it! Even with extra dental insurance. I've got three other people who need dental work too!
