- In this video we look at the Mesa Boogie Mark V 35 combo, the smaller sibling of the Mark V, which, as the name suggests, is a 35 watt amp but can also be switched down to 25 watts or 10 watts.
I've wanted a Mesa Boogie Mark series amp for years and was able to get one a few years ago before the company was acquired by Gibson. We go through five things I like about this amp and see if it is something you might want to get hold of yourself.

SUPERB REVIEW. I’ve just bought one of these bad- boys and I’m delighted with it! In my humble opinion, you don’t need ANY extra pedals to make this thing sing. Maximum grin - factor when you merely crank it up and just ROCK.And the versatility… can’t wait to gig with it!

Nice review and great playing. However, this is a Boogie Mark V. Setting controls at 12 o'clock is not the way to dial in great tones. Check the manual for factory suggested settings.
The only lack of bottom end I've experienced with this amp was when I put it on an amp stand, it killed a lot of the bass. I then learned from the manual that this amp is meant to be on the floor and that's where I've had it ever since.

My guitarist has this one. It's often way too loud for small clubs so I would recommend an attenuator. Killer tone .

If you want to switch between modes the Triaxis would do that and has all these amps built in also
I use a Mesa 1X12 Recto ext cab with my Mark 5 35 combo, has plenty of bass IMO. I actually cut a little bass on the main eq
The idea of setting everything to 12 o'clock is not correct.
Since the tone controls are before most of the distortion happens, you need to set the bass control very low to get that tight Mesa metal distortion the Mark series amps are famous for. You then compensate with the graphical EQ to get more low-end thump.
Mesa's under gain sound better with the gain high, treble high, mids high and bass low. Totally changes the amp due to the tone stack. The EQ is gain for each frequency range.
Hello, I appreciate your review. I am a new subscriber. I have a question that you may be able to help me with. I play at church and would be running from the Cab Clone to the PA in the back of the church. What I don't understand about the settings in back is where it says "Speaker On" "Speaker off", is that referring to the Clone or the actual 12" speaker? At church we want a silent as possible stage or at most I need to have my stage monitor very low. Do you have any insight into how it would work in this situation? Thanks again.
When the speaker on/off switch is on, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CABINET (OR INTERNAL SPEAKER IN THE CASE OF THE COMBO) CONNECTED or you will damage your amplifier. And this sort of damage is not covered by the warranty. Look in the manual.
It's referring to the speaker load, in the case of the combos the actual build in speaker. Think of it like this - it's asking you if you want simultaneous output through the amp AND the DI, or just the DI.
