Why I am LEAVING IRELAND I LIVING IN IRELAND VLOG

  • In 2020, 56,500 Irish people left Ireland in search of something better abroad. Over half of them were between the ages of 25 and 44, and nearly sixteen thousand of them were teenagers and young adults aged 24 and under. But why are Irish people still leaving Ireland? Why am I leaving Ireland?
It’s a good question, and the answer is multifaceted. The most prominent factor can be found in the living situation, where a housing crisis leaves rent prices at unattainable levels and mortgages nothing but a pipe dream for young professionals.
If you are living in Ireland, moving to Ireland or just interested about life in Dublin or life in Ireland - this is a video for you!
Have a nice day everyone and see you next week! We hope you enjoy watching this one as much as we did making it!
    Cheers! 🍺

Over the last 50 years the Irish economy seems to have grown at an incredible rate, mainly due to the likes of the IDA selling the country short to get foreign investment.
There's not been one government in that time that has taken a proactive view on policy that would insure a better future. Every government has adopted a lets see where we end up view.
That's why there's a housing crisis, a health care crisis, a homeless crisis, and elderly care crisis, a refugee crisis, a cost of living crisis.
What coming next is a is an emigration crisis, where people will start leaving the country on mass because they're sick of living in a country in constant crisis!

Hello kdmc40, i live in Belguim. Strange thing is country's don not know the problem of each other. I can tell you, in Belguim we have the same problems. A small house in the street costs over here 350k euro. Min money you earn here is 1800euro. Big city's have masses of homeless people. That live outside in winter! There is no more room for emigrants ho left there country. They live in small Decathlon tents in the streets of Brussels!!! Elderly people can not afford oldmenhomes anymore. It costs 2250 euro a month. And it is in no luxerly that they live, no extra's. And our social healthcare is under a lot of tension. And maybe will break. Hospitals are goiing in debt. Also not finding personel. So not good for the moment. Goiing to the dokter for the moment is cheap, 2€. But i pay every month a piece of my salary to the gouverment to support the social healthcare. 56% of our income goes to taxes! If we buy something in the store we pay 20%taxes on it. I'm thinking of moving to Ireland. For the nature, pubs, friendly people, living on a island. Here people work a lot. Go home and stay home. Pubs became bistro's. Belguim is 32.000km2 And there 11milj people. Ireland is 60.000km2 and you are with about 6mlj. We do not have a lot of nature left. Climatechange, i think the nortern country will be very better of. Over here summers are getting very hot!! So you see kdmc40 everywhere there is something.

@@fishermanstales8946 You are right, there are problems everywhere. I live part of my time in southern England, although its not as bad as Ireland, there are problems. The USA is the same I lived in California as a student in the late 90's. Over the years I've seen a serious decline in living standards and there is a serious homeless problem. I think the whole world has serious problems.

@@kdmc40 Correct, i think we are about the same age i guess. I am in my fourty's. So we are seeying how much everything is changed in the years. We see the decline in housing , amount of purchess for money ... . Also our identety. Who we are as a people, what it means to be a Belgium in my case, traditions. That is what we struggle with. We hold on to. What we know. I see in my childeren something different. The multiculturalisme is normal for them. They dont worry about that. That gives me hope! Our generation still lives in how it was. We mal manage everyting at the moment because we do not know the solution. They live in the now. I still struggle with it but then i look how they live in the world and find solutions. I see hope!

2 main reasons why Govt will not deal with the housing situation ..
Personal wealth is mostly tied up in property and most people who vote are home owners and if house prices drop, and so also their perceived wealth, they will lose votes
Also it presents a significant barrier to mass migration, without being able to accuse policy makers of creating barriers to migration, it's quite a cynical tactic.

Just a wee reference regarding Irish food. It had been 6 years since my son and I had been able to visit my parents there. We're just back. We spent most of our in Termonfeckin/ Clogherhead. One night we brought my parents to a wee pub (Smugglers rest Clogherhead ). We had the best mussels we've ever tasted (we live in France /Spain and expect good sea food). The Irish food was incredible (and I've a freezer full of it now). Here the Chuleton is incredible but hey, the Irish sirloin steak was just as good. So Irish food being bad is a thing from years ago. I was amazed by how beautiful it is now. Don't need 4 stars from Michlen to serve great food eh😂

Or Dublin for another university. I have 2 cats who will be coming with me and there really aren't a lot of options for pet friendly housing that I'm seeing in Ireland. Very very few advertise as being pet friendly and the prices seem to range from 950-1300 euro. So Germany is absolutely cheaper, and seems to have more pet friendly landlords as well.
I've heard stories of students (admittedly in Dublin) who had to drop out of school and move back to their home country because they couldn't find a place to live, and that was without the extra complication of having pets.

In any case I would recommend opening Revolut account first just because it is very easy and fast. Wanderlust is definitely part of it but from what I've seen it's a combination of a few things. Aside from the usual 🏠 crisis etc it comes down to money. Especially if your a STEM graduate the pay here is bad relative to cost of living etc, if a young lad goes to work in Australia or Continental Europe or USA or even Canada relative to cost of living and taxes the jobs just pay far better. There's also the added aspect that STEM jobs that end up in Ireland are usually the crap side of those industries (Process control for production lines etc), they are generally uninteresting products. The other thing many don't mention is the generally negative atmosphere that is encouraged by the Government and the wider culture. The other thing I would say is that many leave due to personal ambition, belief that Ireland is uniquely shite, no real connection or feeling of belonging to Ireland - aka Americanized Irish or East Yanks.

Corrky I actually find Ireland in general an unhealthy culture. It's very senditrary. I don't like sitting around. If you don't like Gaelic sports you can feel left out. I think you need to find your own interests if you're not like everyone else.

So glad to see you will continue to blog and that you will be coming back to Ireland. If this is your first time to India it will be an eye opener for you both. I'm so tired of the current generation of snowflakes - Irish and non Irish - complaining and moaning . With (well most of the Irish!) their white skins, multiple degrees and passport that will allow them to go practically anywhere they feel so entitled. - like your friend who can't wear nice cloths or complains about your English (ask how good her Croatian is) - jeez luise, give us a break. Ireland is not the only country suffering from these problems. The country is better off without them. On the other hand many young people do go abroad to spread their wings for a few years or improve their work experience or education and then return. Many when they see that the grass is not always greener on the other side.I can't wait to hear your reports from India - they'll be a hoot for sure! Go n-eari an bothair libh!

The reason people are leaving Ireland is because none of them have experienced the joy of Northern Ireland. I've invited you to come and visit me several times but no response. You've just missed our bonfire season but the marchers are still, well, marching on. NI is the pacemaker for the remainder of our island but we are not appreciated.
