- What are the typical Irish people traits that make the Irish, Irish? If there’s ever been a nation of people that holds a special place in the hearts of people all over the world, it’s the Irish!
From Americans, who love to advertise their Irish blood and Irish ancestry. To the adoration of the smooth Irish accent and even the worldwide celebration of their best-known holiday, St. Patrick’s Day. The personality, charm, and welcoming aura draw so many people to visit the beautiful Emerald Isle.
Irish culture has weaved its way around the world, and it’s one of the very few cultures that has managed to hold onto many old beliefs and behaviors. Even so, many countries have tried to take Ireland for their own over the centuries.
So, what are Irish people like? What are Irish people known for? What do Irish people believe in?
Have a nice day everyone and see you next week! We hope you enjoy watching this one as much as we did making it!
Cheers! 🍺

When my dad died my kids were young. I had to explain to them that everybody would be laughing and telling stories at the "wake"
It is so sad losing a parent and I’m sure you all shared many wonderful memories.❤️
We hung clooties on certain trees on Staten Island. We also had graves from typhus victims from the emigration during the famine. Came off the ships by the Quarantine.
I was so happy when you mentioned giving the small amount back to the buyer for good luck when you sell something. I was wondering just the other day if others remembered that or if people still do that. I remember that happening so often when I was growing up.
Western U.S. cowboys do the horseshoe facing up for good luck too! But you can hang it anywhere in the house, not just the front door. Lots of farming families have one hanging somewhere in the house or barn.
In Ireland, if an arch, stylish, elderly lady comes into the undertaker ( grocer, publican, grain-merchant ) and she is examining the choice of Sacred Heart, Our Lady and Holy Family habits, she will be ushered away from the bargain option :-
" Maisie, your knees would be out in no time in that ".
I'm Irish so I knew them all. Well done Coleen deas.
In America the cow sitting down means bad weather to us. And we have ones like if you step on someone's shoes you have to place an x on their back or if you sweep their feet with a broom they have to spit on it or they'll go to jail 😂
😂😂 Thanks for sharing Michael, I enjoyed reading your superstitions. 👏
Years ago in well to do households the body of a deceased one would be laid out on a table called a wake table. It had gate legs and generally was used as a dining table as well.
Thanks again for sharing
I was walking in Galway city and two young Goth people near me were narrowly missed by wet bird splatter. I didn't feel they missed the money as they looked to have dressed very carefully. As a foreigner the one thing I thought curious was people tying strips of cloth on bushes.
Those ribbons and locks 🔒 hanging from random places symbolise friendship, the loss of a loved one..etc. 🙃
Sometimes, after a really big meal, I have to open the window and really let a foul spirit out.
Save your elbows, open the door. Your feet'll thank you.
We put a horseshoe under our matras in our bed. We put it up like you say. But is to capture you're luck.
Dna revealed im.44% Irish so thought I'd do a little research on my background
That was great. I love seeing Galway city in your videos. I don't live there anymore but I regularly spot people I know in the background!
They were great, I'm pretty famatical about the same ones. I have a few more!
On funerals...a pregnant woman cant go to the cemetery for fear of a misscarriage.
A broom falling over or a knife hitting the ground means visitors.
Seeing a redhead on New Years means the year is going to be bad (sorry😂).
Redheads should stay inside for all of the dark hours on Bealtine (just the day, not the month), again, very sorry. Our family is full of redheads so these were always an easy tease😂
My personal favourite; lick a lizard as a child to gain healing powers. I'm not sure is it like a 7th son of a 7th son or is it just specific to a particular illness or burns or something. We have a shy species of lizard in Ireland thats rare to find but one was in my garden. I was telling them down the pub and immediately they got excited asking did I get the then 3 year old to lick it😂😂 I had no idea. They were so sad we missed the opportunity.
Hope your eyes are feeling better too!
Thanks for sharing your stories Xatz.. 🫶😂 Us poor red heads have an awful reputation. I hate going out on new years and now I know.. 🙈😂😂 also, I’d lick a lizard just for the fun of it and I’m yet to meet a 7th son of a 7th son. 😄 I hope I do!!
Thanks again for your lovely message. 🫶❤️
Find a penny heads up, it's good luck.
The library staff will think you're either famous, or daft.
You should visit Inistioge
Thanks for the invite Jim and Kilkenny played very well in the hurling. 👍🙃
What is for arthrosis remedy?
Free tip. Your channel will start to grow when you start interviewing people. ;)
Thanks! Noted :)
A horse shoe hung, points up, over the barn door to capture good luck. A swarm of black birds in your yard is a harbinger of bad luck to come.😞
