Thank you so much! We went to Maui for our honeymoon about 10 years ago and have loved the whole "island vibe" thing ever since, so I'm right there with you! Hoping there are more people out there like us that will find value in these videos!

I had to make four mai tais last night at the bar and ended up making the classic version. The customers complained but after making them tropical mai tais they were like this is how you do it!! Haha so funny everyone’s unique preference for a mai tai 😂

Lol, that's funny. My wife still only really likes the tropical Mai Tai version, though I'm working hard to get her to appreciate the more traditional. Definitely more on the traditional side myself. :). Thanks so much for taking the time to comment!

Thanks for posting this! I’m hosting a Halloween tiki bar and making Pineapple jack o lanterns, need to use the juice for something!

They may not be "official/authentic" mai tais, but we still love them! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!

I'm ok with an occasional Tropical Mai Tai, consumed many on Kauai. That being said, I'm always defaulting to the classic Mai Tai if I get a chance. We call this the "Tourist Version" of a Mai Tai.

Hey, thanks for commenting! I'd agree, the "Tourist Version" is probably a better name for it. This is more of my "go-to": czcams.com/video/6H4LJbeQ8jU/video.html.
Releasing the 1972 Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai shortly, which I feel is my favorite version of a tourist Mai Tai. In the end, though, I tell people that all that matters is that you're enjoying the cocktail!

I don't know what this is, but it is most certainly not a Mai Tai, tropical or otherwise!

This is the type of "Mai Tai" my wife likes. So hence, it's a Mai Tai. 😆

Not Trader Vic’s original recipe but you know what? It’s not a bad version. From now on that’s what I’ll be calling this “hotel” version of the Mai Tai.

Hey! I actually like that better than "tropical". Agree it's definitely the hotel version. My wife actually prefers this over the original recipe (czcams.com/video/6H4LJbeQ8jU/video.html&t), and I don't mind it when I'm looking for something sweeter. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment!

You know that a mai tai doesn't have orange juice or pineapple juice in it, right?

Hey! At the time I made this video many years ago, I posted just as a recipe my wife and I liked. To answer your question, yes I'm aware that your statement is correct :). Everyone had to start somewhere tho!

Not a mai tai! Not even close. Just because you call it a mai tai doesn't make it a mai tai!2 big thumbs down.

    • @TikiDrinksatHome
      @TikiDrinksatHome  Před 8 měsíci

You're absolutely right. This was one of the first ones I made many years ago, and it really shouldn't be called a Mai Tai.
Attempted to make a closer one later on: czcams.com/video/6H4LJbeQ8jU/video.html&pp=ygUkMTk0NCBUcmFkZXIgVmljcyBtYWkgdGFpIHRpa2kgZHJpbmtz
Doesn't utilize the exact rums originally used, for obvious reasons, but should be closer to what is actually a Mai Tai.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!
