Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Not as famous as she should be though, but she played an SG clean.
A cream custom to be specific. It was gorgeous
Triple humbucker right?

Samuel Xavier pissing myself . My boy has ADHD and that comment was spot on
Boy you got this from some kind of shirt quote or something lmao
@@alexanderklijn7529 Exactly. :)

Lmao. I just died.đ
Robby Krieger of The Doors played the SG ;)
Oops you beat me to it:)
Been after his signature model for ages.....batwing scratchplate and a vibrola.....my grail!
The end...The SG clean sound
So did my friend Tony.
That brown SG has a real oldies and 70s feel to it, and that would definitely attract me to it. Nice showcase indeed my guys
Is it Just me or has the Captain been NAILING these solo's the last few vids??
I was noticing the same thing!
yeah his 1st solo was well played.
Eric Captain đ
Boring pentatonic runs

@@andrewparfitt5899 youâre boring
Lee Anderton, your videos have changed my life!!! I wish you had a store in the states...
Anyway, I love your show and watch it all the time. You are such a great, humble, and inspirational guy!!!
Cheers buddy! :D
OMG that opening jam is an absolute face melter â€ïž
Holy hell. The very beginning of Leeâs solo with that bend.. So epic!!
As a proud owner of a 2017 SG Standard with Classic 57s (and ditching my Les Paul), this is the guitar to own.
Ditched my Les Paul for a new 61â SG. Good move.
I have a 2013 with 57s. Great pickups for an SG.
Owned both and found the LP gaining a lot of dust, the SG does everything and people undervalue itâs versatility
Lee's doing so great at his playing these days that I'm so honored to watch his vids every day.to watch him progress over time has been a joy to watch.and Pete has more soul in one of his pinky's than most any player I've ever heard.these vids are such a kick in the ads I need to get a Gibson and do my best.thanks guys for your insipation! We love you in ohio
These two blokes play good together.
In my opinion, the SG has always been Gibson's best product, even in the really bad years. Never as convoluted as the Les Paul range, especially when it comes to all the bells and whistles stuff. Mostly always just a straight and to the point guitar mostly the way your granddad played it. And then there's the price. Best Standard at the best price. But then I'm an SG fanboy, so I'm probably just spreading fanboyism.
Agreed
Iâm with you man, Iâve got an old bone stock 91 SG and I wouldnât trade the worn out bastard for a custom shop. Simple straight to the point, fat searing tone into any amp. But yeah just spreading fanboyism! Hahaa
@@KenKaniff69 Amen to that. My first SG was a 2017 Standard. 2017 being during Gibson's "dark years", I wouldn't be able to tell, because I was hooked to it the moment I laid hands on it. Will never trade it or sell it. From my fanboy perspective, simply perfect and gets the job done.
I always get sucked in by Les Paul but always return to the SG. LP = eye candy; SG = melt your face rock machine
Iâm a Les Paul dude but Iâm with ya on this one and the only thing that feels like a trade of is the natural walnut finish doesnât have the trapezoid inlays, however I might still get one of those, because the sgâs are hotter that the Les Paulâs and they look that way too and the feel of those plastic tuners are awesome.
Every time I hear Capt. Lee play I am inspired! You've came a long way! You sound like a pro now!
7:12 Robby Krieger of The Doors is a clean Sg player, although underrated....
He also used solid state amps. I think. At least at one time. I don't think he thought much about Tone. he just played.
7:34 Practically SCREAMING "Robby Krieger!!!" at them.
Yes, he's one of my favorite guitar players, it's a shame he's so underrated
Iâm a huge SG fan, totally love my 2016 SG Faded. Canât wait to see your video of the 2019 Special!
Frank Marino...SG player....probably the most underrated guitarist, yet referenced by many great guitar players.
Loving that bluesy lick at 9:56, great rhythm and lead playing from Pete as always. Great review, thanks.
That jam opening was great guys!
Oooooh could've swore I heard a bit if The Doors, Robby Krieger is my favourite SG player
Bill Frisell also played an SG though his was a Jr. with a single P90 so I reckon it's a different beast. I've got a 2008 SG Special with the 490 pickups and it sounds glorious clean through my Princeton Reverb!
All those lessons for the Captain are really paying off. His playing is getting so good! DP killed it as usual. Makes me want to get an SG again
Been playing my SG special (now the SG tribute) for years. Sounds absolutely fantastic, swapped out the standard 490's for Burstbucker pros and put on a Bigsby B5, now it's a Jazz and Country machine!
Lee becoming one of my favourite guitarists (alongside Danish Pete). Inspiration to us all!
Agreed! Been loving his playing recently
hands down my favorite guitar ever! the telecaster comes second
Kudos to this!
Finally!!! Waited so long for this video!
Just bought a 2021 SG standard, right off the wall just played like a dream, like how lightweight it is. Between this and my strat I have my bases covered
In my opinion the maple necks on the Tributes give them a very unique tone, which I really like. Perfect for lead guitar. Love my Studio Tribute Les Paul
Right, you mean Julian Lage, fabulous player (not only Jazz)
corcalk Thank you. That man deserves to have his name correctly stated! One of my favorite players.
Was listening to (not watching) the 9:55 jam and was blown away to discover it was The Captain, not Pete, ripping it up!!! A+
What's song was that on that jam?
Loved that ending! Great video. I just bought a Pelham blue SG that's probably a 2019...zzsounds exclusive. Couldn't find any videos of it on youtube.
Oh yeah that jam at the beginning đ„đ€đ»
DP has a real fuzz "thang" going on at the moment, I love it!!!
Most fun I've had watching a demo video in years!!
I, for one, am loving Gibson Christmas. Keep em coming gents!
GEORGE BLOODY HARRISON ?? - the man who man them famous! with Robbie Krieger and his million selling clean sounds.... add Weller, The Jayhawks, Wilco, Mick Taylor 1969/70, Badfinger etc.
Itâs really awesome to see how much better Lee gets every video! Pete is great as usual, keep it up guys!
SGs are awesome. They are Gibsonâs most sold model of all time and the only model to be offered every year since itâs inception.
I prefer the small guard, but these do sound great as to be expected.
I ordered a left handed SG standard yesterday!, can't wait for it to arrive..
Love the tribute one, so i had one in cherry red.. great guitar, Good price and really good for my punk rock nâroll!
I'm still diggin the Flying V/Explorer episode!!! Sound mix on that video was too sweet through my Bose system!!!
I have seen the captain since 2009 or something like that when I was just 13 or 14 years old. Today I just bought my first Gibson Sg and I can't believe it. I love this kind of videos
I'm a fan of the 490R and T pickups, prefer them to the Burstbuckers.
I just bought a 2019 SG Standard and had the bridge pickup swapped to a 498T. If I donât like it Iâll go back to the 490R/490T but I almost bought an SG GT which had the 498s and sounded great, so I made the swap. This will play a lot of hard rock and classic metal......with some modern country thrown in.
The 490R and a 500T...the ideal combination for a Gibson!
Both guitars look & sound great!
I'm a bit of a Robbie Krieger fan from The Doors. Used to play the SG Maestro. Great player
Mick Taylor played an sg clean , he played the living shit out of one , Zappa did some nice stuff on his ,Brian Ray for McCartney and others
My favourite SG-player is David Tattersall from the wave pictures, a band from London. He is a great player.
Hahaha, Peteâs commitment to seeing that final lick through was inspiring!
I think they mean Julian Lage and not Justin Lange. Check him out guys!
@Matthew Fry Could be but I know for sure Julian plays a 50's tele.
I love how Pete just leaps in and makes Lee's every "here's some tones!" moment into a proper jam.
The Jazz guitarist you mentioned is Julian Lage and although I'm not a big jazz fan, he really knows his stuff and is well worth checking out.
Ei there cap!!! I have to say.. this maybe the best jam session of you and mr pete ever!! Made me think of getting one of those natural walnutâŠ
Great demo. BTW, you kept mentioning Tony Iommi and even playing some semi-inspired riffs and so on but never plugged into the Laney Iommi amp head in the very center of the room just behind you guys! What's up with that! hehe...
Love that the captain dropped a little but of brick in the wall in his opening solo.. Awesome!
NEVER get board of these gibson videos, great guitars and fantastic presenters, whats not to like? :)
Allan Mulgrew a les Paul, thatâs whatâs not too like. Too many les Paul videos, s,g is a bad ass guitar. Not shown enough
Thanks guys I bought a Tribute today it feels great
copyright while covering a song or mentioning a song is a ridiculous concept. we need to burn it to the ground.
If we can't play it, then we should not mention any of their names and not give them credit or props. Also, don't buy any of the merch, tshirts, etc!
The Captain's lessons with Pete are certainly paying off. Great playing!
I have to say great playing Captain!
Had an 09 std, sold it as it ripped my ears it was so bright realised several guitars later that it was the amp. Wished I'd kept it now, loudest thing I've ever played unplugged and the intonation spot on, played like a dream.
Leeâs blues soloing around 11:00 is lovely.
For some reasons they are using only A, C, D, C chords... bizarre
Funny joke but look at the actual chords they're using
Being serious now, Lee really is becoming a legit Blues machine at this point. that little blues jam bit was really, really tasteful actually.
Lee, that was like the best solo you've ever played!
Clean SG - Matt Guitar Murphy. SG with two creme coloured x-buckers (DiMarzio?) and creme binding (looks great). At the beginning of Sweet Home Chicago (Blues Brothers) you can see the pickups.
JULIAN LAGE... mr Lee...great player on telecaster ...anyway great video again...Salah marrakech
Good video guys x
Robby Krieger from the Doors played an SG clean a lot
I really wish Gibson would bring back the white sg standards with the full size pickguard. That is my dream guitar đ
Wow I haven't watched an Andertons video for a good while, Captain you now have some Chops. đ
May I ask which pedals the Captain was using on the solo bit from 11:00 onwards? Sounds great.
This entire video was just "guess the almost copyrighted song" đđ featuring some of the best playing I've seen from Anderton's so far đ
Wanted to point out that both of these have the Rounded neck profile. The gents said they didnât think it was that much different than the typical slim taper but my Standard has a wonderful thick C profile, thinner than a full 50âs baseball bat, and I never knew how much I needed an SG with a thicker neck.
Great video the wait was killing me
I like the looks of the batwing pick guards but they make it a real pain to switch out pickups if you want to. Gotta pull the mounting posts for the bridge to get the guard off to gain access to the pickups
No review of the 61 standard?
Come on, Lee, it is Julian Lage. He is some kind of a genius on guitar and he plays a tele into a fender champ.
7:24 Paul Weller played an SG live at glasto in 1994. Absolute amazing performance from the mod father! â€ïž
Great, cool opening jam
Wow! The jazz & blues from about 9:00 to 11:30 made me want to be with you guys playing. Everything isn't shredding. There is rhythm at Andertons! Sounded great! In the early 60s the SGs had a reputation for neck warping. The joint just wasn't stable. Never had that problem with the Les Paul's. Has Gibson fixed this?
Yep definitely getting an SG
Sure you mean julian lage not justin lange. So so so so good. Caught his trio in London the other month. Phenomenal.
I love these guys , they're the best
No one is bored of Gibson videos... but you all. You guys are part of my morning coffee routine.
anyone skipping these Gibson videos is missing out on some great jams!
i love seeing Lee taking some more risks in his solos lately, and most of them are paying off!
Eric Johnson May be mostly a Strat guy but Iâve seen him do SG at times.
Shut the front door! Geez Lee! Your playing is getting so good
Ooh I hit like!! It does'nt happen often good job fellas!!!
If you want to hear a clean SG tone listen to the first Jethro Tull album This Was with Mick Abrahams. He even played a jazz piece on the album. Then listen to him with Blodwyn Pig, where he also mixes some jazz with blues
Lee's vibrato and bending screams! Great!
ECCA- Jams (Escaping Copyright Chasing Algorithms)
John Cipollina played SG somewhat clean, I think?
Don't know why people dont play them clean cos it sounds fantastic...
They are great! In fact, those pickups (490) are the pickups on BB King E335. They are great clean.
2:32 I'd agree. - An entire hard case is probably the safest, because it's just more rigid with a lot more stuffing on the inside. But you're only going to actually need that when you either throw it into a vehicle (be it a van or an airplane) and pile it up with other cases all the time. - But for at home... Yea, some people like to keep all their guitars in cases... Or even just jamming or occasional gigging or whatever, a sturdy soft case or bag is much more convenient. - You have to be more careful to still not drop it, but it's going to save space and your back.
The lawyers for these artists are making a dumb move if theyâre going after people playing famous riffs and teaching songs-
Iâve discovered so many bands and bought their music because Iâve learned a cool riff from a demo or lesson vid on youtube, I imagine a lot of others have as well.
Holey-the-good-lord! When el capitano kicks in about 0:42 sweet mother, that was just AWSOOOOMMMME!!!
Great review! Do you know how much it weights the SG Tribute? Thank you!
Probably the nicest guitar gibson makes to play day in and day out. Good feel, not butt heavy and lots of access to play. If you roll the tone back on one that doesn't have off the wall pickup output, they can cover jazz just fine.
Also the only completely defective guitar I ever received from Gibson - a '61 reissue SG way back in 1996 with an S shaped neck. Took multiple stores/techs to tell me that it was more than just a setup issue (gibson filed the low side frets almost down to the board to try to make the guitar play clear up the neck before sending it out, but it was not to be). I took a huge loss as a college kid, just played it ringing and half dead and finally sold it on ebay to a guy who didn't care about its condition for a tiny fraction.
But I still love the type and will build one in the next year that is pin straight.
Best one of the type I've ever played was a fat necked Tokai SG 185. The cost of a used SG standard, but with the specs (or better) that the $4,800 custom shop offering had. Straightest, strongest and best sounding SG I've ever played.
Great ending, thanks!
