Knowing what we know now from the manga Mic is very smart. The fact he was dismissed probably didnt help, and if he had been listened to, a lot of time, and people could have theoretically been saved.
That moment you realise that Horikoshi made that side story of when they were in UA just so he could say "OK, you know this guy? This cloud boi? Remember this guy, he'll be important later"

Yeah, there are a lot of similar names in MHA. There's a Shoto and a Shota, there's Mina/Mineta/Midoriya, Tokoyami/Takami… there's even two whole separate characters who are both named Ryuko. It's kind of just a thing.
