Thank you for going through this 'ramble' as you call it. It's helpful, at least to me, to hear that someone who's art I quite love to look at, can so easily admit that sometimes things just aren't there in your head...that inspiration isn't always at hand. I, for one, feel that it not only makes you more 'human' (haha), but lets me feel less stressed when I just look at whatever I'm working on and having nothing to pull from.
Thank you for sharing with us so freely.

I loved your rendering of the green haired person. I am so taken with the way a painting keeps changing as you progress. It gives me courage to just go with the flow. I also us3 gouache as I always paint in my sketchbooks and that paper usually doesn’t tolerate watercolour. I have books of good watercolour paper but somehow I don’t feel my art is good enough to put there. Silly, as only I see my art and I should be okay with that, but I guess it’s a human gene thing....but I love your courageousness.

I watch this video a lot lately, as I’m experimenting with gouache and in my sketchbook, I’m not at home with gouache as much as I am with watercolor. What really stresses me out is trying to make a final painting. It's first a lot of effort to try and find the right high quality paper, having the right materials to do it with, and also the space and time for it. It's also the pressure of getting it to look perfect and professional to either sell or have in a portfolio. I always get intimidated by it because I'm clumsy and I'm scared of ruining it. That's why i have soo many experimental sketches instead of final pieces because I can do whatever I want with them without worrying. Sometimes, I prefer my messy rough pieces compared to my perfected paintings. So, there is not always an answer 😂

  • @motherthebutter

I love hearing the way you talk about art. I find that I get impatient and end up drawing a lot of details before I even completely finishing the overall form. And I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one who feels at a loss as to what direction I want to take my art. I sometimes look at my art and feel as if it doesn't look like it's mine...? Like, I feel that if I were someone else looking at it, I wouldn't be able to tell my work apart from other artists. Overall, I enjoy listening to your thoughts on art. Including both the technical aspects and just your personal feelings about art. And I just wanna thank you again for the giveaway watercolors. I've been working with them a lot recently and find that it's a medium I can genuinely play around with and hopefully experiment with my art

Shin han pass is my favourite gouache I've tried to date honestly (although I've only really tried daler rowney designers and arteza, which I much prefer to the daler rowney gouache). I feel like it is a bit more transparent, but I tend to use markers to do the base layer for a sketch so that when I use gouache I've already got the base tones and it feels less transparent! But, with it being a hybrid, when watered down it tends to feel a lot less 'cloudy' than other gouache, at least to me. So you could use it like watercolour!
It's always so nice hearing you talk and seeing you work!

Wow. I’ve never related to an art youtuber like you. The part where you said you were in a satisfying place with your painting and then you got back into a sketching/comics to like idk do different stuff besides painting. Then you said you tried getting back into painting but the vibe wasn’t there and you’re lost with your art but at the same time you know you’re going to reconnect. I’m so glad a pro youtuber I watch goes through the same struggles as me, an amateur. I’m trying to paint and I really thought I was getting better, sure my stuff was crap but I was so proud. Then I really got into sketching, I wanted to be good at both. I liked sketching at first but then it’s like I just got in this big art block. I could sketch it’s just my vibe wasn’t the same. Nothing was coming out how I wanted it to, but slowly I got better and then I decided to paint since I was “healed”. After a long time of not painting it’s like I was back to square one, nothing came out like I envisioned. I just wanted to give up, but just as you said I still know I’m going to reconnect. You help me in these situations. You’re a really big inspiration. :)

It would be pretty cool to see a full body portrait in your style! maybe watercolor, maybe gouache? :D

i can definitely understand and relate to all your worries on art itself. most of the times, i can say im pretty hard on myself when it comes to the process and outcome of my pieces. theres are times where i could just instantly lose my inspirations or will to draw because i am not satisfied with it and how im a completely perfectionist bc i have my own standards.
sorry for rambling too hahaha but it's my first time watching your video and i love it! i truly admire how you can freely sketch so well too!

Thank you for the rant I needed it. Don’t feel bad about being human, we all seek validation that we can probably give ourselves. because
We are only human:) so don’t stop talking about it because it’s a part of the process.

A tip i got from a friend for painting with acrylics or gouache in sketchbooks is to gesso the pages. You need to prime/gesso the pages! it makes everything go smoother and blend more!

These types of videos are really nice. It would also be cool to see the difference in this paint compare to watercolor and gouache. Just love your content.

I really liked both of the wip points where the shading on the face was pale. Also relate to the feeling that everyone else is making way more art than I do because there are so many people sharing thier pieces
