  • In September 2022, Valve unleashed Counter-Strike 2, aiming to propel the iconic FPS franchise into the future. However, what followed was a storm of criticism, making it the lowest-rated game in Valve's history according to Steam reviews. Join us as we dissect the community's scathing critique and uncover the missteps that led to this debacle.
    🔍 The Backlash 🔍
After a decade-long wait for a new installment, Valve dropped Counter-Strike 2 as a sequel to Global Offensive. But the move to replace CS:GO's page with CS2 sparked immediate controversy, leaving fans feeling like the original was being overshadowed. The discontent only escalated after players got their hands on it.
Based on over 160,000 recent Steam reviews, CS2 holds a "Mixed" rating - a mark lower than any other Valve title, including revered names like Half-Life, Portal, Left 4 Dead, and DOTA 2.
    🔍 What Went Wrong? 🔍
    Players' frustrations are well-founded:
Hitbox and hit detection issues persist, particularly in high ground to low ground scenarios, despite Valve's attempts to patch some of these bugs.
The server tick rate has seemingly dropped from 64 to 32, resulting in shots not registering as they should. This compounds the problem of inaccurate hitboxes.
Casual favorites like Arms Race and Demolition have been entirely removed, leaving casual players disheartened.
The map pool has been significantly reduced, with popular workshop maps no longer available, leaving only a handful of classic comp maps.
Community servers were absent at launch, rendering beloved custom game modes like surf and zombie mods inaccessible.
Reports of an uptick in cheaters and hackers are rife, pointing towards a deficiency in the anti-cheat system. Spinbotters have become an unfortunate regularity.
    💬 Community Voices 💬
Notable Reddit comments echo the sentiments of the community:
"Got rid of the casual game modes and maps I liked to play."
"Reinstall after a couple years, get matched against a cheater, remember why you uninstalled the first time."
Even professional CS:GO players like s1mple have publicly advised caution, urging players to steer clear of CS2 for now due to its rough state. Nevertheless, Valve remains committed to updates, striving to rectify the situation.
Valve's release of an unfinished CS2, devoid of cherished elements from earlier games, was a grave miscalculation. The backlash from the CS community has been so severe that it now holds the dubious honor of being the worst-rated Valve game on Steam. While patches address some issues, there's a long road ahead to win back trust. Valve must reconnect with what the fans desire before CS2 can truly become a worthy successor.

this is WAY WORSE than CP2077, this is actually garbage, it's unplayable and valve is decreasing the update frequency already, when the game shouldn't even be in beta
