@volyn You forgot one detail: the rink in Salt Lake City had the size of an European-like rink. It's only in Vancouver that they first played Olympics on NHL-size ice rinks.
There's no doubt during this time Canada is better than Russia. We have a lot of problems in our country since USSR's broke up. So of course sport results shows it. Our great hockey system is no more. Remember Bure, Fedorov, Mogilny, Khabibulin, Kasparaitis, Kovalev, Yashin, Zubov and others? They were a product of it. Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, Malkin is just talents that grown up by their good enough will, passion, genetic. The are the only ones, not a rule but an exclude. We don't have a good hockey system.
@scottwill19 if no one touches canada in best on best tourneys, how come you didn't win an olympic gold for 50 yrs between 1952 and 2002? Additionally when you did get your first after 50 yrs in 2002, your best got humiliated by our best (sweden) 5-2 ;) Finally, in the iihf no big european team is close to its best in the world championship, our sweden team is a B or C-team, our big players are nearly all of them playing in the playoffs (3 of them in the eastern and 12 of them in the western)

O i forgot didnt Russia lose 7-3 to a much more talented Canada... and did Canada win gold against USA, 3-2 Canada is rated #1 on IIHF WORLD RANKINGS we are the best and we will always be the best.

Bonaboms because all their best players were in the nhl, and the nhl only started going to the olympics in 98.
