  • 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T HEMI Muscle Car Of The Week Video #10
This week, we're featuring a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 426 HEMI as our pick for Muscle Car Of The Week from the Brothers Collection. There were only 157 of these cars built, and this Plum Crazy Purple version has all the right parts to make it one of the most prized Mopars in the collection. Starting with a 425 HP 426 HEMI V8, Pistol Grip 4-speed, dual 4 barrel carbs and more, it's a run and gun racer for the street!

These Challengers excite me to this day. I drove one for 10 years, sold it and still regret that. It never let me down.

My friend had a 70 T/A in the Sublime Green and a 70 383 Magnum convertible in Plum Crazy. Loved cruising in those cars.

Ken Mosier just passed away. But his spirit lives on with the cars like this hemi that he restored! RIP Ken.
BTW the manual shifters in New Challengers are still called pistol grips. They are more of a Glock style grip whereas the ones in the 70s where more of a colt woodsman style grip I like to say.

Beautiful 1970 Plum Crazy Purple Challenger!!💪💜💪 Nice story on the car too. I can’t believe the original owner painted over that Gorgeous 👀 Plum Crazy with Black😳.
As I understand though, back then, you had to special order black colored cars…Not many were produced “Black” back then if any?? I could be wrong…?? Just what I heard.
Anyway, I’m glad it was restored to all its glory in Plum Crazy Purple and then some!!👍👍🤩🥳
    💪💜💪 She IS a BEAUTY!!!

My idea of a perfect muscle car. the most iconic engine ever produced and a gorgeous Challenger. What could be more desirable than a Gen II Mopar HEMI? Especially with a 4-speed.

Always wondered why there was such less Hemi Challengers built vs Hemi Cudas. They built 652 Hemi Cudas in 1970 and he just said that only 137 70 Hemi Challengers were built. I figured the numbers would have been a little higher considering the Challenger was lighter and cheaper than the Charger R/T and Cornet R/T.

I had one basically identical to this one except for the engine. Mine was a 440 sixpack. I always thought it was too low geared with the 4.10's. Ran strong though.

Magnum is best recognized for its use in pistol and rifle cartridge names, but it's origin is actually in wine bottles, a larger bottle of wine.

Dodge also had the Dodge Boys animated commercials going back to Dodge City with the Western themes! And it is funny that Plymouth Air Grabber and Shaker hood scoops were all standard with the Hemi from 1969 to 1971 and Dodge Ramcharger was standard on the Hemi B bodies but the Hemi Challenger R/T came standard with the standard Challenger R/T hood scoop and the Shaker was optional!

I know MOPAR had ads pushing the Rapid Transit narrative. Did they ever insinuate R/T stood for Road and Track?

  • @kellienicolebrooksschettin6598

Yes mr ti answer your 4 speed question below with new brass in Chrysler's 4 soeed transmission it was able to shift without the clutch the tran was so good at ckutch less shifting it actually found its way into some Chevrolet s....i only no becayse i had a 1970 SE dodge challenger an a 73 340 RT CHALLENGER with a slapstick red and one dayi drove it to an auto shop was in need of a late delivery and the guys see my 73 RT an says u know i got a CUDA u saw it an i said know....he say come by the house an i did an he let me drive it...an he say don't step on the clutch shift without it from first to second so i do goes from first little bump into second noi clutch my eye got this big....then he say second to third little bump no clutch right into third....im like how the heck....he laughs 74 360 cuda original brand new synchro s brass he say i drag this car every weekend never use the clutch after leaving the line....he was a real mechanic....had kids i could have the car for 5000 grand last year cuda 360 4 soeed.but i already had 4 of them E body's last thing he tells me that fir racing some chevy guys put this mopar four speed in their car good i dea....when lenco race transmission s atart at 10grand for that luxary of power shifting truckers do it all the time good ones....now lencos are probably 30grand for racing..trans

QUESTION : did mopar make a close ratio heavy duty trany like the m22 rock crusher?

    • @clintwalker6389
      @clintwalker6389 Před 4 lety +1

ericou812 yes we always called them hemi-4speeds but they came with 440magnums and the 6-pack motors coupled with the heavy-duty Dana rear end along with hemi cars. One was 17spline and the other 23spline I can’t remember I might be wrong a little on the numbers, but I just wish I had the stuff I sold in the 80’sand90’s back.Age and experience brought knowledge,if we would have just listened to them old timers,(that’s me now),back then.

If they put out pistol grip manual tranmissions today there would be rioting in the streets but not because of the pistol grip but because almost nobody knows how to drive a stick. At this point you barely need to lock a car with a manual, the only way its going anywhere is if they tow it.

    Kowalski's car in "Vanishing Point"?

  • @kellienicolebrooksschettin6598

Where I'm from in north east u didnt see ever a plum crazy car....
And i was thinking yeah it an automatic wow its not bitchin that stripe is so classy an a 4 speed too for me

  • @kellienicolebrooksschettin6598

I find it ironic my dad had a beautiful 1968 RS SS Camaro red white stripe on the nose vette rallys 4 speed hidden headlights stunner but his dad was mopar so i was giving him crap one day why didn't he buy a cuda or a challenger with a little hesitation 30 years later he say the Camaro was 2800 deck out and the cuda an challenger was 3400 well yeah an 1968 neither E body was built yet so that mite have the real reason an the barracuda 68 was not as good looking as the Camaro....hard to believe the Hemi option was only 700 dollars over a 318 car not much for a million dollar

The mirror on the driver side does not look correct. I have a 70 challenger and my mirror is cone shaped ( or bullet shaped. The mirror on this car looks more like a B body car mirror.
