Love the right hand rocks color,i find when i have a busy area in backgrounds ,to tone it down and push it back ,i use a thin glaze of blue pulls everything together.I love your enthusiasm in sharing your daily paintings, thanks Dave.
On the large rocks on the right, there's an impression of a fine trickle of water splashing down toward the stream. Wonderful woodland painting, Dave, as always!
Ah Dave you make w/c painting seem so easy - my grandson has just watch you painting and was fascinated by your use of the pieces of plastic card and suddenly wonderful rock shapes appear. Wow was his comment. Great painting again.
Awesome brush work, Dave, and what you do with the scraping is amazing to me. I'm learning some new techniques from you. I really like how much you can do with that Hake. I've gotten some for myself to try out. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Goodness me, this is quite busy, Dave! I had to adjust my bifocals a little to get the best out of this rather special painting. The little splash of water coming over those rocks on the right is a subtle touch that adds so much. And thanks for keeping us up to date with Freddy's progress in your uploads too.
Brilliant use of the credit card (no bill at the end of it ) lol!!!, I used it a lot when I did watercolour paintings a few years back l found it very good for texturing stone work on buildings , especialy the older kind , and where you have a dry stone wall in a painting,I also used the edge for doing masts on boats or anywhere that a reasonably staight line was needed .lovely colours used again nice painting Dave..
hello dave its quite amazing that ive just watched this demo after mr cronins rocky stream isn't it strange how two people with the same equipment can paint so different...I came up with something in between..dont stop doing the quick demo's there cool
Hi Dave at what angle do you hold the card. When I try it seems to make indentations in the paper rather than remove the paint. Also does it work on normal watercolour paper. Thank you
Nice impressionistic study, Dave, I have noticed, at times, some slow moving streams look almost black in the shadows of clouds and trees. I got my new Ron Ranson hake, and the inclosed instructions indicated that he started painting at age fifty. Never to late to start.
What size is your plastic card? I can't see it when you use it. Thx for your wonderful tutorials. I am 80 years old and just started watercolor painting.
Have just seen the newspaper in question , I'm afraid I couldn't use the grid method if I was paid a thousand pounds ,this method is ok for people who have no experience perhaps, but I dont think you would get the same feel for the animal, I just go straight in no circles no grids , I'm afraid I'm the old fashioned way, freehand which I find easy, fortunately !! ...SOooo the question is Dave will we be seeing some animal portrait demos from you in the not too distant future
Dave re :my last comment , before anyone thinks I'm an arrogant mare by saying I find drawing freehand easy without the use of grids etc: I have tried grids and breaking down subjects , and I found it was like trying to draw with my left hand when I am right handed, but I know this method will work for some people , it just didn't for me .
Beautiful painting but can't see what you are actually doing with the credit card because your hand is covering the area. Maybe a different camera angle?

No I'm afraid l didn't Dave, I dont usualy read news papers !! Was it something interesting?
What the paper ??
Thank you!
I'm waiting for someone to come out with a purpose-made watercolor painting "credit card" and charge $30.00 for one, lol.

You've hit it on the head Dave ,key word is simplicity, no faffing just do it, and get the true feel for your subject .
Beautiful painting but can't see what you are actually doing with the credit card because your hand is covering the area. Maybe a different camera angle?
Sorry, on my phone I was not able to tell when the video was made. I will look for your other videos using the credit cards. Thanks for responding.

The totally wrong concept the way you paint in watercolour.
Oh, please explain, Brian. What I do today will be different to what I did as a demo years ago.
