I started painting 40 years ago with watercolours and but for some encouragement from wife's cousins staying with us from Australia, I might have quit. I discovered Big brush watercolour by Ron Ranson and was bowled over because he made it look so easy with the 2" hake brush which I am now demonstrating. I stopped using watercolour 15 years ago in favour of oil painting, having had some success with this medium, and work selling in several galleries. Just before Christmas 2012 and after having been asked by a good friend if I could do some watercolour demos for her, I dusted off the tubes, purchased a new hake and blocks of paper and set to, practising the old and largely lost, to me, techniques of this medium. I will also be posting videos of acrylic painting over failed watercolours to show that we don't have to throw them away since they make good supports for this medium. . FB. Dave Usher Artist.artist. 🌲🌿🌱 so beautiful views, and pure one 🖼️👍
Thanks Nanmiss, glad you like this one. :)
Hi Dave, what size of brush are you using to paint that sky? It looks to me sitting here like it's maybe one inch wide? Great painting as always.
Hi Tom, 1" varnish brushes, get the sky in quick is my motto. :)
@@DaveUsherArt Thanks Dave 🙂
C est tres beau,j'adore ! 😃❤❤🇲🇫
Merci beaucoup Josiane. :)
This is so helpful!!!
Glad to be of help, Kim. :)
❤
Thanks for watching, Kim. :)
Lovely Dave with the colours all blended, beautiful and bright. Looks wonderful in the frame. Blessings to you 🥰😇
Thanks Sharon. Been watching the Olympics opening ceremony. The highlight with Celine Dion singing the iconic Edith Piaf song bought tears to my eyes, We watched the recent documentary of her struggle with this, "Strong persons syndrome.". I might have said this wrong.:)
It creates a mood, just one step away from an impression. An impression being one and one half steps away from a likeness, which is a sidestep from an accurate image (that not to be confused with realism).
Thanks for your summing up boooshes, I just enjoyed blending the paint. :)
I love the colours, but try as I may, I just can't discern the colour you name between Al. Crimson and Ultramarine. It's a red, but that's all I get. Can you offer a full list of the colour palette?
I'll be going up to my studio in a few minutes so will try and answer your question golfbabe. , I can only tell you what I'm using now, not 11 years ago. :)
Lovely painting and location. I'd have loved to see clearly how the rocks were formed; some closeups are slightly out of focus and your hand is covering they way you formed the top of the rocks.
This was posted 11 years ago. the colour you asked for is Light red.
Love this Dave and so quick too :) Have a great weekend bless you. 🥰😇
I was waiting for you to comment on this one Sharon. I based it on a WM Turner. I love his ethereal paintings which paved the way for the impressionists to follow. Many thanks for your encouragement. :)
Very beautiful Dave as always. 🥰😇
Thanks Sharon, another sunny, hot, day. Taking the cover off the BBQ at last. :)
Beautifully done Dave with amazing skies as always, you are an inspiration to all. Blessings to you and yours. 🥰😇
That’s amazing! I’m going to try this.
It takes a while for the linseed oil to dry, Shane, :)
Cześć Dave. Miłego dnia ,piękny obraz :-)
Hi Jan, thanks for watching. Good to hear from you. :)
I love your work Dave. How can I achieve the same effect with oils?
Paint for 50 years and don't quit when you can't do it. The more you do, the better you'll get, Yvonne. :) PS. Copy the Masters, that's how they learnt! :)
Love your seascapes Dave , it’s a fantastic painting
Thanks Shawn, they eat up the paint, :)
Never boring Dave🎉
You're too kind, Netty. recovering from the Old Men Riding Badly on Bikes along the River Wandle Group this morning. Knackered!:)
You're too kind Netty. Recovering from the Old Men riding Badly on Bikes Group along The River Wandle most Tuesdays. Sandie's doing the dinner which will rejuvenate my old bones, :)

Thanks Kathleen, :)
Lovely colours and depth Dave
Glad you liked this one,lops1. :)
Lovely painting! I have all I mean ALL if the books Ron published. How I wish I could have met him! Your painting was a fine tribute to Ron. May I ask what weight paper you used? Also, hot press, NOT, etc?
Hi Susie, I usually use 130lb studio practice paper bought in 100 sheet packs, nothing special but needs practice. Happy painting. :)
So Inspiring!
Thanks Brendarossi1 glad you like this one. :)
Aloha Dave I know your US followers will appreciate seeing you use the papers most readily available to us here! The Artists Loft is the house brand of the Michaels chain. (Similar to your Hobbycraft. A little too much tooth for my liking, but a well made paper.
I know "Michaels" from my visits to Pinelas Point on Tampa Bay, Glen. My sister and B in Law bought a house there opposite family. They sold the house several years ago. We had a garage sale on one occasion at which I sat under a parasol painting watercolours; I sold 9!
Really get a great sense of depth of the landscape with the bushes, river, shore, house and trees!
Thanks George, much appreciated. :)
Child proof caps are a pain, I always decant and chuck them away. Buy liquin in the bigger tin, cheaper and no child proof cap.
Thanks Jim. I don't use much liquin. I'm stuck on acrylic at the moment. :)
This is wonderful Dave.. i love this :) 🥰😇👏👏
Thanks Sharon, one from the archive. This one gives me some ideas, I've primed a board ready for the morning effort. :)

Thanks Sharon, I've spent more time unraveling Windows Movie Maker than painting, but on the edge now. Bit overcast at the moment, but nothing will keep me from cooking some drumsticks on the Barbie! Lamb curry yesterday. :)
Spoiled today seeing two lovely paintings Dave. Lovely work as always bless you. 🥰😇
I finally knitted 2 files together, One step for a man, a giant leap for mankind! :)

Beautiful
Love this Dave.. i also recommend you to many people i watch or meet and they are looking at your art. Many thanks Dave and as always i wish you and yours well. 🥰😇
Thanks Sharon, hope I don't disappoint! :)
Very pretty
Very nice Dave, did you water down the acrylics? The painting looks like watercolor. It's lovely!
No, I just dip the tip of the brush in water except when I paint large areas of sky etc.The paint dries very quickly, and can be glazed over, very versatile. :)
This is amazing! I am glad that it was recommended to me.
Thanks for watching, rm :)
Fantastic! Thank you and congrats.
Thanks Mooshibe, you're welcome. :)
