The poltergeist used the boy to distract the parents, so it could take the little girl
I remember seeing this when it first came out, in theaters - there is nothing like being in a full-house theater and everybody is scared shitless and they are all screaming! I was lucky enough to see The Exorcist and the original Halloween film the same way. Love coming on youtube here and seeing people getting scared and shocked for the first time, all over again! It's so much fun! What made this so creepy is the slow build-up and the fact that it took place in a modern house in a new development (not in a house that already looks terrifying). It made you feel like this could happen anywhere. The young actress who plays Carol Ann (Heather O'Rourke) passed away in 1988, at age 12, of congenital intestinal stenosis and septic shock. She had been having gastrointestinal issues for about a year before she died. She was 5 when she made this film. Also, Dominique Dunne, who played her sister Dana, was murdered by her boyfriend in 1982 (the same year Poltergeist was released) after an abusive relationship. So sad.
Dominque Dunne’s older brother played in the movie “An American Werewolf in London” the year before 👍🏼
Ex boyfriend. He was still stalking her and she had a guy friend over at her house practicing lines for another movie. She finally agreed to talk outside and that's when he strangled her. She passed a few days later when they had to pull the plug. He barely served any time and ended up working for a high class restaurant and her family and friends held signs saying things like - your food is being cooked by the guy who killed Dominique dunne - etc,,, he was finally fired.
They used real human remains in the mud pit scene that's why so many people considered the movie cursed
Most movies do - it is common practice. It is cheaper and more realistic for them.
Pool scene not mud pit. LOL!
Nah, it's mostly because the gruesome deaths of the daughters.
Heather O'Rourke (Carol Anne, the little one) had a bowel obstruction a few years later while filming Poltergeist III. It was misdiagnosed, she was sent home with meds that didn't help the problem, and suffered another week until her body started to shut down. They tried emergency surgery, but by then it was too late, and her heart just gave out. She was 12.
About one and a half year after shooting Poltergeist, Dominique Dunne (Dana) was killed by her abusive boyfriend, strangled and left braindead in their front yard. She was 22.
Im older enough to have watch this movie first time round, they say this movie was cursed after the making, with the little girl dying and other stuff i cant remember, to be honest i dont fancy googleing it, for its day, what a movie,
The kitchen scene i read that there was a deleted moment cause of Pizza Hut. While Steve & Diane are talking, Carol Anne is sliding on floor again then she ends up going right into the wall. Which baffles me even more that Diane would still be so calm about all this
It’s wild I watched this when it came out IN THE THEATERS at age 6 🙀🤣🧐
The music score is one of best among fantastic scores of the late great Jerry Goldsmith. He was a master at playing with the audience's emotion, one of few people who really grokked that music is the most important part of a movie to deliver emotion.
This Movie is based on a true story from a Park here in Colorado called Chessman Park which they built a park above a cemetery and it's truly haunted and I been to it many times
Recently on another channel, someone insulted Zelda Rubinstein (the small person in the movie), it is not good to insult people's physical looks. A friend I made 24 years who looked like Ms. Zelda, went into a coma for five years, and awoke looking like Ms. Zelda (She couldn't help what happened to her).
I remember watching this classic horror/science fiction movie classic for the first time at the Hollywood Cinema Dome one Sunday Afternoon in November of 1982. I was 10 years old and with my Father and Sister. We all enjoyed it, we saw it again 6 months later. The first time I saw this movie, I got grossed out when Marty was ripping his face. I had to close my eyes the second time I saw that part. The first time I saw this, I knew that Clown was going to do something near the end of the movie. That clown was creepy as f***!. The funniest part of the movie is when Mr. Rogers suddenly appeared in the middle of the Super Bowl game. 🎵🎵"Won't You please, please won't you be my neighbor." 🎵🎵 I don't think Mr. Rogers would set foot in a neighborhood with houses built over a cemetery, but would love to have been Fred Rogers neighbor, where he lived in a safe place away from demonic entities invading the home. I don't think Steve cared for his neighbor sharing the same remote control. When I saw this movie a second time, the script was different. When actress Zelda Rubenstein softly whispered "this house is clean." When I first watched hit, she said in a more firm tone "This house is now declared clean! There will be no more ghosts hauntings in this house!!" I think that's why Carol Ann said "no more?_ Like, "were you sure about that?" Anyways, once this movie appeared on the now defunct cable company ON Tv, I watched it so many times, I knew the entire movie script. By the way, have you ever watched the movie "The Haunting" from 1991, starring Jefferey DeMunn and Shelly Kirkland? It's about a house that has been haunted for years and the ghosts followed the family when they moved. Based on a true story.
*Scared the ever-loving asses off of everyone in the movie theaters.* Back then, I was thirteen, and you could stay in the movie theater all day. You could watch the movie three times, if you liked. A couple of times I did that, figuring I was getting a huge deal. I saw “Poltergeist” 11 times in its theatrical run, by staying in the place.
This was 1982. Those kids are all Gen X. Our parents left us on our own all the time. I was about the age of Carol Ann when this movie came out and our parents watched it with us! Lol
Probably why I'm terrified of clowns and dolls to this day, but still...
After the face-tear-off scene, I was thinking Jayy could have been one of those Ghost Investigators but, no, I guess not! There are probably other fine careers audiences might considered. "Reburial Technicians", for example. Job Requirement: match skeletal remains with caskets in decaying condition. Then, there's "Mother's Bathing Counselors"... job requirement: teach mothers who've recently experienced ghostly houses how to pick up kids and move to some other locations for all bathing times. Then, after this film, I'm sure the "Toy Clown Salesforce" needed expert salesmen, too. Job requirement: the ability to look under and around all beds, closets, cubbyholes, dressers for toy clowns.
I enjoyed your reactions! Very well done!
Stephen Spielberg used real skeletons in the pool with the coffins scene.
He did that because plastic ones are bad for the environment 🙃
Most movies do use real.. it is common
This movie is really good!! The next two are outstanding too. The ghosts are complaining!! She was told they were fake skeletons after this movie was filmed, they told her they were real.
The whole film franchise were cursed right from the onset. You'd best google it. Deaths, things on set going on fire, all the weird out the corner of your eye stuff.
Think someone did a documentary about it all.
If the dad's voice sounds familiar - it should - he was mr incredible!
The clown almost struggle the boy for real
Loving the Halloween theme reactions. You should definitely watch “The Others”. You and your best friend. I think that would be so much fun.
Watch part 2
I think most moms would agree with you Jayy about putting the kids BACK in that room - I know I wouldn't, just proves that this script was not written by a mother🤣🤣
JoBeth is certainly a screen idol-love-crush candidate but, after THIS film, I think all young men should look at her sanity with greatest of skepticism! "I think I'll go crushin' on someone else!"
She goes to therapy in the third one you gonna react to the second one? Loved your reaction
The little girl ( carol Anne ) died aged 12 making the 3rd poltergeist film sadly
Yes very sad 😭
And the older sister was killed by an abusive boyfriend. Terrible.
@@susanb4213It pisses me off that Her Ex is out of prison 😡😡😡😡
WOW! How sad and tragic.
@@SiblingsReactandDrinkyes he spent only about 3 years in prison. Dominique Dunns father famed author Dominick Dunn spent the rest of his life trying to get him back in jail. He once went to a restaurant where the murderous boyfriend worked as a chef and handed out cards saying "your food tonight was prepared by the same hands that murdered my daughter Dominique Dunn" the restaurant cleared out pretty quick.
You do what you need to do in order to get through these scary movies. lol.
Great movie loved this reaction Jayy
Enjoyed your commentary. Though I can't believe that if it was your daughter being sucked into a pit of hell, you wouldn't do something equiliy stupid if you thought it would bring her back. Well done.
My issue wasn’t that she went in because I would of done it too especially if that was the only way. I thought it was stupid that the dad pulled early after the lady told him not too so soon. And I also thought it was a ridiculous idea to put them back into the same room after all that happened instead of getting a hotel in the first place. To me honestly a lot of it could of been avoided like if the mom and him would of left when they realized that there was an entity in the house instead the mom chose to play with it. But I also understand if bad choices wasn’t made there would be no basis for a movie so I’m aware of terrible choices to keep a movie going.
Great reaction to this 80s classic Jay...
They did make two more sequels which, in my own opinion, are worth checking out (at least once that is) - Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986), most of the cast/family are all back for this one (except for Dominique Dunne, who played the elder daughter Dana in the 1st movie, who was sadly murdered by her boyfriend in real life, several months after the 1st movie premiered 😢)...two other actors from Poltergeist II would also later pass on after the release of the 2nd film, Julian Beck (who played Rev Henry Cain in part II) had complications of stomach cancer in 1986 ☹️ & Will Samson (who played Native American, Taylor, in part II) would pass away from kidney failure in 1987 😔...
And Poltergeist III (1988) which only Heather O'Rourke (who played Carol Anne) & Zelda Rubinstein (who played psychic Tangina) would return. Actor Nathan Davis replaced Jullian Beck as Kane in part III...But for the new cast we get Tom Skerritt (who played Captain Dallas in Alien), Nancy Allen (who played Police Officer Lewis in the RoboCop films) & Lara Flynn Boyle (who played the alien Serleena in Men In Black II), who play the uncle, aunt & cousin of Carol Anne...Sadly Poltergeist III would be Heather O'Rourke very last film for she died of congenital stenosis of the intestine complicated by septic shock (aka - intestinal blockage & cardiac arrest) shortly before the release of Poltergeist III. 😭
Is the Poltergeist film series cursed??? (That is still debated among film fans).🤷😬☠️
...JoBeth Williams (the mom, Diane) & Craig T. Nelson (the dad, Steven) would also both star in another film together (but this one was a very silly comedy) 'Stir Crazy', along side comedian Richard Pryor & funny man Gene Wilder - who both play a couple of idiots who get framed for a bank robbery, wrongful convicted and sent to prison, who then try to mount an escape. It is a very funny movie directed by Oscar winner Sidney Poitier. Check it out, you may laugh a lot. 😁
👻
Just think..if they moved out right away there'd be no film lol
Classic horror movie and the best of the series. Another great horror classic from 1982 is John Carpenter's The Thing, starring Kurt Russell. Maybe you should watch with a friend 🥴😵
Hey Jayy your going all out for us. I hope you can stayi in room and CLOSE THAT CLOSET DOOR!!! Jayy said if it was you... you would be gone. A 5 minute movie. 😂
Love this movie ..about to jump in with you , first I need some munchies
Just wait til you see kane in part 2 .....
Jillian Beck's great performance as Kane in that one still creeps me out to this day 😱. He was very good actor. RIP. ☹️
@@MLJ7956 amen to that ..him and Tim Currys pennywise are the creepiest movie scary characters by a long way , Freddie ? Jason vorhees ? The crappy character from Halloween..that bad ive forgotten him .Myers? ..not a patch on Kane and pennywise
Oh Lord not that creepy man 😱😨😭
He was dying of cancer when he was filming - that's why he looked so pale.
My son used to call him the oatmeal man
If I were you, if you hate horror films, I certainly wouldn't watch the 2006 version of The Hills Have Eyes. Oh dear God! That is one disturbing movie.
Disturbingly boring lol
@@petechambers541 Disturbingly good, I think you mean.
Thr original was disturbing enough thanks.
@@toodlescae The middle act is particularly hard to stomach.
I don't think her reactions are in sync with the movie.
Yeah I’m sorry I was watching on a site where the fps is a slower rate so when it got edited it made it out of sync so sorry about that
First 10 minutes..."we moving!" 🫣😅
Poltergeist 2 is pretty darn creepy and gives a lot of back story.
