Please let's debunk the myth that culture should dictate our roles within a marriage. The notion that cooking is solely the wife's responsibility stems from outdated norms when men were expected to be the sole providers. However, in today's world, we recognize the importance of shared responsibilities and equal partnership. In a modern marriage, both partners should contribute their 100 percent to the household, including tasks like cooking. It's not about assigned roles based on gender; it's about teamwork and mutual respect. If one partner is less busy or available, they should step up and take on the responsibility of preparing meals. Marriage is about giving your all, without reservations or limitations based on outdated cultural norms. To expect one person to bear the burden of cooking simply because of their gender is unfair and, quite frankly, inhumane. Let's strive for a marriage where both partners give their best to ensure its success and happiness. It's time to break free from the chains of outdated cultural expectations and embrace true equality and partnership in marriage.

This is how I've always felt marriage should be done as I became an adult. I thought was the weird one who doesn't agree with gender roles created by the society.

Loool that last point made me laugh because my husband loves cooking from the day I met him. From day one we have always shared the cooking 50/50 and still do. I also love cooking and it has never been an issue for me. I think people should do what works for their families. I will add that I am Caribbean and my husband is Nigerian. And yes I cook my husband Nigerian food and sometimes he cooks Caribbean food. And I have a great relationship with my inlaws. I am blessed to have them and they equally love me. I am glad they are not super traditional and quite progressive because sometimes my husband is in the kitchen and sometimes its me 😂😂😂

Ify, i did all these and more, still yet, i de where i de. Some didn't do as much and are married. My friend's husband caught her with another man weeks b4 they got married, they have 3 kids now. Am a firm believer that the spiritual controls the physical. Know this and know peace.

@@Olivia_W my dear, in the context of what ify posted, my view is many don't have to do this much to get married. I have a friend whose husband says his wife was the one who made him to start hustling and hustle hard because she wanted the finest things of life and he had to provide. That was hs exact reason for marrying her. Her demands. She motivates him. So what works for one might not necessarily work for the other. Not everyone is seeing shege in their marriage too. Understand the meaning of powershifts and negotiation in marriage from time to time.

Since it's not a man's duty to help with household chores,it shouldn't be a woman's duty too to be financing the family,we should all know our duty, African women are not slaves. If we women must help men financially in the family then nothing should stop men from helping us with household chores.Imagine foreign women watching this won't they call African women slaves the way they do call Africans slaves
A woman who brings home money is helping the man in his job to support the household financially. A kind husband will have no problem pitching in to help keep the home clean. 😊

Thanks for sharing but I disagree on some proposition made... everything will depend on what works for the couple..being African doesn't mean the woman should be enslaved because she wants to keep her home.
I agree but not to a woman who have gone through hell in their past relationships and is financially stable, such ladies it takes grace, patience and alot of counseling to be able to be a maker

I don’t agree with you about pretending to be who you are not for your in-laws. Be accommodating, loving , treat them as you want to be treated but you must have boundaries. You can never please everyone. Period!😘 Just be your authentic self without any pretense all in the name of marriage. If they value you, they will accept you for who you are.

Ify I older than u married 40 years my experience money and material things don't put that in font yhe person u love or want to spend rest of Yr life true love comes from Yr heart and not want u looking for in a man or a woman when u first meet u got everything to share with each other but after years down the line u becomes separated from talking from when u first meet but that doesn't mean Yr love gone it mean u become Yr own self of living and not sharing the same conversation any relationship u go in it well always becomes like this so stay with the one u have and learn to accept and preciate what he or she has to offer in Yr relationship this women like to have everything and put pressure on men the men go and try hard to work to gave them so they can keep the peace be happy with each other have respect and love for each other put god in front Yr relationship and let God do what u can't do to make it work hod bless
