  • YAESU’s first full-SDR HAM Radio transceiver FT-710 has much higher value than its price! This is the first test of my new radio on the air for receive-only operation during the SSB WAE DX Contest 2023. Dynamic range, which I’ve only seen in the high-end radios!
    Enjoy listening and … viewing on the excellent TFT display!

    Great demonstration, my 710 is being delivered today to get me back on HF after a 15+ year hiatus. My last rig was a YAESU FT-990 which I wish I never sold! We’ll see how this does but it looks promising. 73, N3ZKI

    I found your video to be excellent. I also own the FT-710 and I still cannot believe how great the receiver is on the radio. I have worked many weak DX stations right next to powerful stations only 2kc over without interference issues. The noise filter is also really exceptional. With my settings I can run the receiver with AMP 1 on and I throttle the RF gain knob to about the 1 o'clock position. Works very well for me! Again, thanks for the nice video.

      First impressions on CW- very good receive, no ringing , actually, even at 50Hz filter. The draw-back, full QSK is hardly possible due to relay T/R switch. More impressions in future videos, after more use in real contests etc. Yes, it came with the add-on speaker, and the AESS is working, not a miracle but the effect is feasable. 73! Linas LY2H

      Hi, I was using the full-size ( ~39m long) 80-10m EFHW antenna fed via the Myantennas.com 49:1 impedance transformer. The feedpoint is some 13m above the ground supported by pole on the roof of my house, the far end is uphill in the tree at abt 20m level above the ground. No tuner needed on most bands. HTH, 73! Did your radio come with the extension speaker as pictured in so many ebay ads ? Is yours the aess version ( 100 watts), or just 50 watts ?

      Hello, thanks for watching and commenting! Yes, my radio is FT-710 AESS and it came with this add-on speaker. My radio is 100W, I’m not sure the 50W radio really exists, at least in the European/North American market, it’s more like a gossip just before releasing the radio to the markets :). There is another version of the radio called “FT-710 Field” but it’s the same 100W radio minus speaker, plus the carrying shoulder strap :). 73! Linas LY2H

      I had this issue, but only a 15 minute job to replace with "Noctua NF-A6x25 FLX" and it runs silent. 7300's fan is noisey under TX by comparison.

    How it compares to IC-7300 ?

    • @Linas_LY2H
      @Linas_LY2H  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Good question, don't know yet , it takes more time to compare :), in some future video probably. FT-710 does not do some things IC-7300 does, but it seems quieter than 7300 (lower noise floor ). Else, the display is crispier in 7300. Stay tuned for more :) 73! Linas LY2H

      People usually rank it higher than the Icom in this particular discipline. I've just bought a FTDX10, so soon I'll compare that myself... :-) (supposing that DX10 and 710 perform very similar, both being top RCVRs in the Sherwood list). I like the sound of my DX10 a lot, definitely an improvement over FT-991A that I've sold. Still learning with it. Once I feel confident with the filtering and DSP enough, I'll compare them. Display is crispier, but I still like the Icom waterfall more.

      @@ferdinandfrozenstein I own a DX10, 710, 7300 705, 590SG. The DX10 and 710 are very different! DX10 has better front-panel functionality, but it is cramped and fiddly to use. It is a better contesting rig, but the audio is darker, the DSP is better? (certainly more aggressive), it weighs 2 kg more, and it draws 1A more on RX. 710 is more fun to operate in a casual manner. The 710 audio is wider and brighter, and is it easier to carry/power portable. There is no best - it really depends on what you prioritize. I would say the DX10 for shack (but UI is a pig) and for portable contesting (this is the DX10's forte), and the 710 for everything casual and fun. I use the 710 more than the DX10.
      By comparison the 7300 is UI/UX bliss, but it is getting on a bit and RX is noisey. It is getting too familier (boring) and is in need of an update. Strangley though - in many ways it is still better than the DX10 and 710!!
      The 560SG is my super solid FT8 monster that runs cool and quiet. It is a data mode champion!
      The 705 is like nothing else. It is the best rig I've ever owned - so good in fact that I now own two! It has more functionality than any other rig I've owned and packs a huge punch when paired with the AH-705 ATU and operated over salt water. Oh, and it sips power. 73

    • @Linas_LY2H
      @Linas_LY2H  Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@forgetyourlife In my FT-710, if just on receive, no transmit, the fan starts running about 20min after the radio is switched on, runs for an hour or so, then switches off, then on again after some time. For me personnaly, it's not a big deal as I find the fan's noise not that annoying , especially if listening at higher volume on an external speakers, or with the headphones. All-in-all, I think, it should be possible to replace the existing fan with a Noctua, or similar, quieter fans, as people do in many other Yaesu and Icom radios, also PA's. 73! Linas LY2H

    It's a pity that it appears as if Yaesu don't know how to do scope averaging! This lack of averaging makes the scope utterly useless and has deterred me from purchasing any of Yaesu's latest offerings. We need averaging - not the worthless gimmick of a 3D display! Talk about ruining the ship for a ha'porth of tar.. Great video though ;-)

    • @Linas_LY2H
      @Linas_LY2H  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Thanks for your comment! I agree with you on averaging feature lack in Yaesu's new radios! But I wouldn't be so merciless to YAESU :)! Yes, the un-processed spectrum scope irritates my eyes a bit, but I got used to a new ( compare to my Icoms) view on the screen after few hours of use of my '710. For me personally, the spectrum scope is not that informative and necessary as the waterfall is. And the waterfall functions perfectly on my '710, I can see the signal's quality, relative strength, I can regulate the speed of flow and the screen is crisp enough with waterfall. The spectrum scope which is not so important for me, is still usable, though, as I can judge on the signal's amplitude by it even if it's jumping stopless all the time round :). Actually, it was not the display's pecularities which made my buying decision, but the exceptional quality of the full-SDR receiver in FT-710. YMMV, 73! and CU on the spectrum scope /waterfall:)!
