I wish I could share your optimism. Even in the purest democracy, we don't function as a huge committee. We elect leaders. The Achilles heel of democracy is the quality of those put forth as leaders. As we saw at the Depression (Huey Long), early cold war (Sen. McCarthy), civil rights and war on terror (Ronad Reagan) and loss of economic status (Trump), spreading social anxiety and fears leads millions toward simple and decisive solutions rather than debate and nuance. My point is finding how we can effectively innoculate millions to resist throwing away the institutions and functions that unite us and protect us in a desire for phony protection schemes? Ovecoming fear takes a certain amount of widespread security and reassurance to achieve. Cross a line and the protective instincts of the lower brain can override any wisdom (individual and collective) contained in the higher brain.
While not perfect, FDR was a fortunate leader for the Depression and WWII. As was Ike post-war. I shudder to think if Long had lived or Taft won in 1952 over Ike how different we would have been in times of fear and anxiety.
The thing about TMT is that fear can be wielded as a powerful weapon to prod our innate fear of mortality for harmful ends. The only solution that works so far, barring widespread consciousness, is to outvote those who unite in fear. Which is why those in fear's throes cannot be allowed to undermine the safeguards. January 6th was our warning.

i don’t wanna die. My problem is I can’t stand that fact that I will be nothing one day, and in the long run nothing matters. It’s very sad and depressing and has been eating me alive.

Well if you feel that way then you can seek religions as a scapegoat for your own mortality

Sequential thinking tries to fix symptoms while never addressing it's source. Ultimately terrorism is created by greed sucking the joy out of life. Remove greed, and the terrorism will go away.
