DIY Covered Sandbox with Bench Seating

  • How to build a DIY covered sandbox with bench seating. Yep, that's simple and easy. A backyard sandbox gives kids a perfect place to build sandcastles, dig for treasure or play with all of their favorite beach toys. I like watching my kids have so much fun without having to pack up the car to go to the beach. The lid
can be folded down when not in use to double as the cover. It is small enough to fit in the tightest of backyards yet large enough that multiple children can play at the same time. The two by material used for the base is sturdy enough to withstand years of hard play by the most enthusiastic youngster. A coat of deck stain inside and out will help it last even longer. The free plans listed on the website includes a shade canopy not featured in this video.

Man, I'm really enjoying your videos, especially the frequency. This is probably something I'll have to build soon since my wife and I are having a daughter in a couple months. Also, as a fellow FL resident, it is cool to see projects done in the same climate.

+Jonathan Walker Thanks, I try to upload every Thursday. Sometimes I don't make it but I've been pretty consistent this year. Congrats on your daughter. I have three. If you need the cut list and materials they will be listed on my website when your ready. One of them has the shade canopy listed with it.

Nice! Like the folding top to turn into a bench seat! Plus when it's closed, keeps the critters from using as a litter box! Been there before! 😕 Cheers!

Nice. I dumped two tons of sand at the edge of our yard for my kids back on the 80's. There was no box so they didn't have boundaries. That's what I told people anyway

This is fantastic, thanks for sharing! The only thing I'll probably modify on mine is that I'd like the seat of the bench not to cover so much of the sand. I'll probably make the side-boards longer to make the seat "float" outside of the play area.
