    I’ve recently discovered this channel and love these best/worst type videos… so helpful and entertaining. I also appreciate the narrator’s voice, slow, clear, well spoken and as a brit, enjoyable accent.

      Thanks, much appreciated. Lived in Europe as a kid, including over a decade in England. Lost my accent years ago, but I know some words I say sound strange to some, especially Mooooohg. Thanks for the comment.

    Helpful videos. I bought a used Hermann Miller Aeron Chair for 20% of the new price. Still expensive but best chair I’ve ever used. I couldn’t agree more about DT770’s. I also purchased a few items based on your value for money videos. Hope you hit 1K soon.

    I had both the 57 and the 58 mics, and eventually realized I prefer the sound of Sennheisers. Sold those, and now I have a e845 and e945 as replacements. Similar price to Shures, so it's just a matter of preference.

    • @JeffreyScottPetro
      @JeffreyScottPetro  Před měsícem

      There are certainly some modern alternatives, and the e845 is right there as far as price. I think pros prefer the 58, because it is mostly flat across the midrange, whereas the 845 rises through the midrange and has less roll-off in the upper and lower frequencies, so it doesn't reject other onstage instruments as well as the 58. Also, the 58 is ubiquitous and it's a known entity in pro circles. Still, both the mics you mention are solid performers. Thanks for the comment.

    Oh you did it now, I am from Nashville and I assure you, I am no Countryman! 🐄🤠🐄I mean ... yes ... we got cows across the street where I live. So what? 😅 OK! I would like mention the Electro-Harmonix Soul Food --- a great knock-off overdrive that won't cost you thousands of dollars, like the original. 👍

    As always: Very interesting „shopping list“! Thank you! Instead of the Royer ribbon I use the beyerdynamic M 160 ribbon for guitar cab miking. Still not TDC but half the price of a Royer R-121.

      Thanks. The M 160 is a great mic, but like you said, still kinda spendy.

    Dude you definitely should have more subs. You provide a wealth of information in each video and I walk away more knowledgeable. This was a really great list.
    Question: I want to go down the rabbit hole of synths, but none of the current offerings from Roland, Yamaha or Korg interest me with the tiny toy synth craze, so I am strongly considering Nord, of course on the used market 😂. Which version would you suggest?

    • @JeffreyScottPetro
      @JeffreyScottPetro  Před měsícem +1

      Thanks, I am desperately trying to get to 1000 subs, so some of the advertising revenue can come to me instead of all going to youtube. I'm not a pro when it comes to the Nords, I've always thought they were overpriced but sound good. My best friend Brian has owned a bunch. This is what he said: The Nords have become overpriced, but if you have your heart set on one, he recommends the Electro 5. "They upgraded the memory to 1 gig for the piano library and 256 meg for the other sounds. They also added split and layer capabilities." He actually stated you would do better with Korg, Roland, or Yamaha. Brian doesn't own any Nord at this time. He played my Kronos X and purchased a Kronos 2 88 for his studio and a Kronos 2 61 that he was going to use live, but I don't think he ever used the 61 live, because he loved it too much. Of course, those Kronos purchases were 6-7 years ago, and he still owns them. This is a guy that changes keyboards like underwear. I plan on making a Synth Lore episode on the Kronos, eventually. Hope this helps.

      @@JeffreyScottPetro you definitely deserve that revenue for sure.
      Oh wow many thanks on the insight about Nords and Korg. Based on what you have said, I may have to rethink my position and consider the boards Brian still has. I agree I thought they were way overpriced as well hence the used market, but still if something newer has the same or more features at a better price point then the choice is easy. Thanks again for taking the time to respond and provide me with information. I look forward to your next videos.

    This one time, a neighbor of mine suggested that it was possible to create a lower tier for a compacted synthesizer by taking metal netting and suspending it from your keyboard stand. Is that something that makes sense, and could it be a substitute for buying a traditional second tier?
    My colleague who engineered and recorded my self-titled solo debut record, *Eric Benjamin Gordon,* decided while assembling his digital studio to succeed the 8-track cassette deck he had been using to build a homemade pop screen. He was a first rate carpenter (his day job), but he probably didn’t have tools at his disposal 20 years ago for carving in concentric circles, so he built an octagonal apparatus and used spare pantyhose for the actual screen. I always wished I had any carpentry skills like his so I could build my own guitars.
    I think I was one of the people who knew when you included the SM 57 in this list that the SM 58 had to be somewhere on the list as well. I’ve owned a couple of them in my time, even though I’ve not yet had a 57. Now that I know about patch cables that are equipped with all switches of their own, I will probably go with the traditional 58.
    I noticed most of your lists come in sets of 11, Jeffrey. Is that in any way connected with Rob Reiner (as in This Is Spinal Tap)?

    • @JeffreyScottPetro
      @JeffreyScottPetro  Před měsícem +1

      Absolutely right about Spinal Tap. Most lists on youtube are top 10 lists, mine go to 11. Thanks for the comment.

    Strange how there was no keyboard in this list. Keys that are VFM is not a common thing, but I'm sure there could be at least one, idk, a Deepmind 12 perhaps..

    • @JeffreyScottPetro
      @JeffreyScottPetro  Před měsícem +1

      Hard to find a keyboard that pros love but won't break the bank. There are some, but I've talked about them in a lot of episodes, like the DX7, D-50, M1, so thought I'd not include keyboards. Thanks for the comment.

    Why do you suggest both SM57 & SM58.. I've already got a 57 for instruments & also a condenser for vocals.. So would a 58 still have any advantage..?

    • @JeffreyScottPetro
      @JeffreyScottPetro  Před měsícem +1

      I didn't suggest both the 57 and 58. I stated that pros love them, and they are affordable, which supports the title of the episode. Pros like these mics for certain applications. I've generally thought of the 57 as having a little better low-end response and dipping a little between about 300 & 600 Hz, and the 58 being a flatter across the midrange. Thanks for the comment.

    • @MreenalMams
      @MreenalMams Před měsícem

      @@JeffreyScottPetro Ah okay makes sense.. I misunderstood the intent/title of the video.. interesting to know that 58 is flatter (especially for a mic with a round top)..

    dbx DJDI 2-channel Passive Direct Box, about $75 new, I have four of it (keyboard player).

    • @JeffreyScottPetro
      @JeffreyScottPetro  Před měsícem

      That's a good box. I think the Countryman is quieter and better constructed, but the DBX is a solid performer. Thanks for the comment.

    • @jfn467
      @jfn467 Před měsícem

      @@JeffreyScottPetro The DJDI is built like a tank, solid metal, and I have yet to discover any added noise with it, so far never had that, and I use these a fair amount.
