  • Brandolini's Bullshit Asymmetry Principle: "The amount of effort necessary to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it."
    Course: INFO 198 / BIOL 106B. University of Washington
    Instructors: Carl T. Bergstrom and Jevin West
    Synopsis: Our world is saturated with bullshit. Learn to detect and defuse it.
    The course will be offered as a 1-credit seminar this spring through the Information School at the University of Washington. We aim to expand it to a 3 or 4 credit course for 2017-2018. For those who cannot attend in person, we aim to videotape the lectures this spring and make video clips freely available on the web.

    I love this. I hate people who intentionally lie in an attempt to paint the narrative they're trying to push, and don't care what the actual truth is. People who don't fact-check before sharing an article are a problem as well.

    Stephen Law wrote a great book, ''Believing Bullshit,'' that was essentially the same subject matter as these lectures. Fucking loved that book.

      There is NOTHING special about cuntservatives using this law to their advantage.
      Everyone else, from Liberals and Leftists to Communists to Marxists to Anarchists & Separatists, Atheists, Animal Rights Vegans, can use Brandolini's Law to spread lies and bullshit about THEIR opponents THEIR enemies, too.

      My cousin had crow, it's apperently tasty, but keep in mind if you have older birds you should soak the over night in buttermilk to remove any unplessant flavour. Also on "nak og æd", a danish television show, they've eaten crow with great delight.

    I would also call bulshit on your statistics presented regarding the increase in international applications. Wouldn't the more important figure be the net increase or decrease? The initial report said 39% of the schools reported a decrease, and you called bulshit and reported that I think 35% of the schools reported an increase, right? But, if the net number of applicants decreased buy a substantial amount wouldn't that actually give more Credence to the argument that you are supposedly the bunking then your own argument? I haven't fact-checked anything, and I have no horse in this race, my point is just that it seems that you are both reporting the wrong statistic.

    • @Gertzerroz
      @Gertzerroz Před 3 lety +5

      What they're presenting isn't bullshit because the 35 percent that reported an increase was intentionally left out be the news article. Even if there is a net decrease in international applications the amount quoted by the news article (40 percent) is extremely misleading.

      There has never been any allegation that Epstein had any relations with that pizzeria. Just because one story about elites and sex-trafficking turns out to be real doesn't mean that they all are.

      @@Mr_Wallet of course just because one story is not true does not mean every story is true. Does that even need to be said? The point is, the main example used in this video turned out to have a HUGE AMOUNT of Truth in it. So much truth that someone killed themselves rather than face the consequences.
