As a Yank, I feel like he would be a welcome addition in the small but insanely popular group of solid six second contenders that show up for Drag Week. As counterproductive as it might sound, he might have to pull out some boost or otherwise find a way to put that big power to the track and make it stick.
The Drag Week competition among the six second cars has been so close that the differences are often measured in a few thousandths (.000) so optimal traction is essential. The fierce competition on the track is only part of the story. The real test of men and women in DW competition happens entirely off the track. For those not familiar with the mandatory requirements, it seems simply enough. Competitors must drive their race cars HUNDREDS of miles to arrive in a timely manner at each of the five racing venues during the week. NO trailers, tow vehicles or support vehicles are allowed to assist racers with reaching their destinations. Race cars can use a trailer hitch to tow a small trailer if it meets certain size limitations. Competition vehicles must remain in full race trim for the drive to each race venue. For safety reasons the only change permitted is removing the drag slicks and installing proper street tires. Driving at night naturally requires a full set of working lights.
Many of the cars are equipped with a Gear Vendors Overdrive unit to maintain reasonable rpms on the open road. Of course there are plenty of problems along the way. From simple bolt on component failures to race ending catastrophic disasters. It’s gonna happen. But there’s something about the true nature of a Drag Racer that compels him or her to help fellow racers in times of trouble. Those are some of the best stories that come from the brutal demands of Drag Week 🏁

Bogan Reds would be responsible for that.....You know what they are like. Driving a VT Bogadore with 5 different coloured panels, no teeth.....VB and Collingwood Stickers on the back window....There are genuine GM enthusiasts who would appreciate it.

A 350hp xw was a handful, the guys doing the chassis on this weapon have weaved as much of a miracle as the engine builders. Kudos gentlemen.

16 yrs ago I was friends with John Mcsweeney in Perth WA who had the fastest small block Ford in the southern hemisphere. 318 cubes destroked 351 and he ran 6.29et in a doorslammer. Wow how the times have changed AWESOME CAR AND SO STOKED FOR ALL INVOLVED👍

BEAST no other words to describe it full stop, low 6's thats is unreal, back in the 1980's this amount of power was doorslammer reach. :) Now days with ECU controls for the power and the right comb of gears and set up easy reach, but how would have imagined it these days that what the drag cars were using back then is now a everyday thing. :)

Very Impressive....Good to see a clean pass at the end....And it really is an XW! Of Sorts.....Track looks pretty short at the end, I know that's enhanced by the camera lens, but.....

It's basically an aluminium hybrid Oldsmobile/Chevrolet big block design with a 4.84" bore spacing and some other changes to lifter spacing etc. From what I understand Alan Johnson designed it to get around a rule which penalised 5" bore spacing powered cars with a significant weight penalty in NHRA drag racing at the time.

Mmm well neither and both really... a lot of chevys block derive from mopar like the LS is very similar to the Cleveland Ford PLR is PLR like MMR is MMR. Both BBC and Hemi influence people like PLR Steve morris they have pumped steroids through both brands even Ford.
