    Actually to be honest with you the XR18 has gotten me through an 8 piece wedding band for monitors and front of house. I wouldn’t necessarily “suggest” it for a front of house console but it’s gotten me through all of my freelance gigs for years. Definitely a winner for an IEM rig.

    • @deepintheheartband
      @deepintheheartband  Před 11 měsíci

      For sure! It’s completely capable of running FOH, just not optimized for it so to speak.
      I understand the X32 is a popular choice for an IEM rig. Just my opinion (with no experience running an X32), the XR18 is the perfect mixer for an IEM rig. I haven’t found anything on it that it doesn’t do for our use.
      Thanks for watching!

    Having ran in ear monitoring for other bands, headphone jacks on transmitters is actually pretty convenient.
    If you’re controlling the software for the whole bands monitoring, you can plug your own in ear monitors to that headphone Jack, therefore letting you hear exactly what the rest of the band is hearing, or at the very least who ever owns the transmitter. It’s usefully, in case anybody is wondering why a headphone Jack is built in to the transmitters, that’s why, it’s extremely useful
    Nice rig boys 🤘

    Great setup! The only thing I would say is that if you are going to be doing a setup where you need to send some channels to FOH and a few of them to both monitors and FOH, get a higher channel count splitter. Just plug the channels you need into your monitor board.
    That way you plug everything into the splitter and hand the FOH guy the FOH whip with everything.

We all have the Helix floor in our case but I'm sure its the same concept.

    • @deepintheheartband

      Nope! MIDI has 16 channels available to run on. Helix #1 is on MIDI channel 10. Helix #2 (the one that changes snapshots) runs on MIDI channel 12. They are completely isolated from each other, and MIDI changes on one does not affect the other in any way shape or form. All of this is programmed in Logic

    • @deepintheheartband
      @deepintheheartband  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for watching!
      Two reasons for the DI box!
      1- That way if the FOH engineer accidentally sends phantom power down those lines, it won’t damage the outputs on the Focusrite. The chances of that happening are slim, but it’s a safety net regardless.
      2- I haven’t personally tested this theory, but I was told that running 1/4” lines for too far of a distance can cause interference issues. The direct box eliminates that risk. Regardless, sending balanced signals to FOH is always a good idea(:

    If you are not needing Midi to change modellers, is the interface really needed? Because the XR18 can connect to the laptop via USB, so couldn't you just run tracks that way? It would take up a channel on the XR18, and then you could feed tracks out to FOH using the one of XR18 Aux?

    • @deepintheheartband

      We are running four stereo IEM mixes, which requires 8 outputs. The XR18 has 8 outputs (the Main L/R can be used as a stereo IEM mix). Therefore, we are using all available outputs for IEM’s alone.
      If you were to just run mono IEM’s, then yes you could absolutely use the XR18 as your audio interface for backing tracks. You could also use it for MIDI changes because the XR18 does have MIDI ports

    • @deepintheheartband
      @deepintheheartband  Před rokem

      No sir. The Art S8 is a transformer isolated split. That is what I have in this rack.
      In my other band, they went with the Seismic Audio rack mount split snake (pictured around your time stamp). That splitter is not transformer isolated, which is why I would highly suggest the Art S8 for anyone looking to build one of these. We have had no issues with the Seismic Audio splitter, but an isolated split is worth the extra money in opinion.

    • @brett-westgrove-country-music
      @brett-westgrove-country-music Před 11 měsíci +1

      Isolation is actually over-hyped in terms of pure necessity. I play everything from dive bars to massive festivals with a "y split" (passive splitter) and it works great for all mics (including with phantom) and line level signals. Never hurts to have transformer isolation but most big production houses will probably say it's only necessary when one of the systems being fed is on a completely different power system (think a mobile recording van parked outside the venue, etc)
