      I do think he's the finest sportsman to ever play the game.
      I saw him dress down the crowd in Acapulco for attempting
      to distract Sam Querrey...he even gave up a bad call in his favor.
      AND he lost...it wasn't eye-wash

      Why didn't he show his courage in Monte Carlo before Barcelona and Madrid? Why didn't he show it at the Australian Open and Indian Wells?       Beating rafa on clay was almost impossible between 2005 and 2018. It's 2024 now and rafa (very vulnerable now) is at the very final stage of his career. Only sociopaths would openly celebrate a clay victory over rafa now.

      Nadal is a senior pro who was once a monster on clay. That's all. Don't elevate him to some demigod status. If Lehecka didn't celebrate much, it was his decision to do so. Not because he was cowed by the partisan crowd or due to his veneration of Nadal. Forget your favoritism and just enjoy each match. That's the best way to enjoy the game.

      i have never seen someone serve so big at over 70%. his average first serve speed was 217 km/h. absolutely insane. rafa didn't even play badly, the shots were just too fast for him at this point.

    Insane mental performance from Lehecka, especially with the crowd against him. Nadal’s level is still impressive, not many players would beat the Czech today. I wish people would start acknowledging how good this era of tennis players is, anyone in that top 30 can put in a performance on any given day

    I’m happy to see Rafa play again but I’m equally happy Lehecka won the match not against Rafa but the disrespectful crowd!
    Totally unacceptable to be chanting RAFA RAFA while he tried to serve.
    It’s totally fine to root for Nadal and rightly so because it is Madrid but to distract the opponent is disgraceful, to say the least!

      I understand chanting for your hero (tho not when your opponent is serving), but what I did find really disrespectful was the almost complete silence after Lehecka's many stunning winners. With most other crowds there's always acknowledgment of great tennis from 'the other guy'. Not cool.
      And yeah, I do get that last night's situation was pretty unique given Rafa's impending retirement.

    I don't know what it is about Lehecka but he just looks like the prototype of a tennis player, you know what I mean? His build, his look, everything about him just screams tennis kid to pro athlete. He has tennis genes!

      I think his build is not so prototypical for a tennis player. Usually tennis players have been on the lanky, skinnier side and he is quite muscular. But I also think he has a perfect all-round athlete body type. He could do any sport probably.

    As much as it hurts me to see Rafa lose I an happy to see that he actually is quite competitive the last few tournaments of his career.. Madrid has always been the “worst” clay MS for him and if he can find a few percent more no one is really safe either in Rome or Paris. That said he is vulnerable at a degree he has never been before and a lot of players can beat him as well.
    Credit to Lehecka who played an excellent match and will be very dangerous going forward if he can repeat this level of play.

    It's such a shame that Rafa's and Murray's injuries have taken such a toll on their fitness levels, in particular their speed and agility. It's sad to see their decline when you remember how great they were the previous two decades. Nole is going to be the last man standing from the big four and that amazing era

    He may be one of the greatest players of all time, but I didn’t like AT ALL the total disregard he showed towards Lehcka: Lechka would get emotional, he would clap at him along with the crowd.. instead, the so called King didn’t spend ONE word for Jiri. Djokovic would have done for sure. Such a shame!

    The writing is definitely on the wall when the modern young players can seem to hit exocet winners with little more than a flick of the wrist, despite all the tenacity and skill the old guard can throw at them. It's the modern equivalent of Becker and the big servers coming on the scene to thump McEnroe and Connors out of grand slam contention.
