Majority of my house is painted Dorian Gray with Eider white doors and trim and I love it. I also love Functional Gray if you want to go a bit more greige. For color pairings I think Balanced Beige, Alpaca, Mink 😊 look gorgeous.
This is a classic gray. I've seen entire houses painted in it and love it.

For a quick update I used Dorian Gray on my interior doors, switching out the nickel hardware for black. I love it!

Yet I went with Morning Fog by Valspar I believe. In the main living areas, bluish-a bit more blue at times than I wanted. And did my bathroom in Grayish by Valspar which has a pretty purple tone in it. They are seen from each room and Trimmed out in Du Jour which is a creamy white. I think they go well together. To be honest Dorian Gray was on my list, but I was out voted. We have a lot of deep brown cloth and woods in these areas and a lot of Bronze hardware and some cast iron. Now no barn doors....but I did my new home in a modern farm, with a ton of actual heirlooms making it real Hygge. Now I actually live on 62 acres of pasture land that abuts mountains, in West Virginia. The grays give a lovely moodiness, offset with warm woods.
Thank you for all of your advice, sincerely. I am beginning project house number 3, which just tuned 100 this last month, and it has lovely wood all over. So I am not done yet, another 6 rooms to go.

Please help! I have two days to nail down exterior colors. My house is an east facing single story in GA. What colors do you suggest? Thoughts? Dorian gray for the body (siding/brick), Iron Ore for doors and shutters, Alabaster, Snowbound, or Pure white for trim. I will take absolutely any suggestions. *note - my roof is called Thunderstorm and includes every shade of gray and possible undertones.

If I’m painting my exterior Dorian grey with snowbound as my trim, would red tomato work for my door? I’m looking for a nice red that isn’t too bright but also not too dark.
I don't know the song but speaking of undertones, this is something I like in paints (and sometimes not like depending). But I'm still loving White Metal. I love that hints of the purple. It just depends on the time of day but as I walk past my studio wall, I get little bits of change throughout the day. Great fun. Hahaha on the other yays!

@@thepaintpeople I just put another coat of Annie Sloan Tilton on the front door and it's so pretty to see how the door changes depending on the sun. Very fun. Also putting some Behr White Metal into the kitchen area where I think a new small walk-in pantry will go. The white metal will be the back drop for lots and lots of fun pops of colour inside the pantry. Sorta like Willy Wonky but with a White Metal background. Ah, so fun to play. Hope your house is going well.

Cher, believe, actually popped up on the radio today too, haven't heard in YEARS. What is your thoughts on anonymous grey, I haven't bothered opening yet bc i am unsure, I have a lot of colors going in but this one I am not sure, if it will be too blah grey or too light, I am trying to get a good mix of the beach historical cottage type I guess, natural, moody colors? It's a hard pull for some reason I've went on the side of greens, UB, naval, glamour (DD) and some random white bc there were too many so I have like 10 samples.

I want to know what idiot said, “I think houses should have the same aesthetic as the German battleship Bismarck, HMS Hood or the USS New Jersey. While it might be a great look for a battleship and quite reasonable for prisons, it is fu*king horrible for homes. As far as I can tell, its only function is to make you glad that you are leaving your drab, coma inducing dwelling place to travel to the comparatively nice hellscape of an open office workspace.
To be fair, the house shown in this video is far less bleak in appearance than most of the monstrositiesI’ve seen where I live. There is one home two streets over from me where the owner really leaned into the battleship look by going with all black trim. I would admire his commitment to achieving the warship aesthetic if he hadn’t decided to “improve” the landscaping around his home with rusty bits of old farm equipment carefully placed on a white gravel rock front lawn.
I’ve heard this trend is already “So 2023” and is on the way out. Its demise can’t happen soon enough IMO.

I painted it icicle and feature wall atmospheric. Well, it’s only paint right because I don’t like it. Maybe for a bathroom. What would you recommend for a feature wall color. I think I’m in the mid range and probably a more neutral. 🤷♀️

Gray homes trend is depressing and sad and as a home buyer it makes it very difficult to stomache the cost of repainting rehardwaring and redoing fans on every single brand new home or remodel I come across. Gray is depressing and is not neutral it's depressing.

Painted my exterior Dorian Gray based, in part, on this video. It's awful. Drab and prison like. And I live in So Cal with beautiful light. I am now looking at re-painting. NOBODY should ever give color advise unless they are on the premises and observing in every conceivable light. If you paint one interior room the wrong color---no big deal. If you paint an exterior the wrong color---huge deal. You should consider this the next time you make a statement like---Why You Should Paint Your Exterior....(insert wrong color here.) Please, be advised and followers, that goes for you too!
I’d be interested in knowing your thoughts and color combos on Eider white. I really love it but don’t know how to utilize it in my open space concept loft. Oh! And the song is one of my all time favorites by the one and only (and immortal) Cher! 🤍
Yes! Love Cher! Eider White is a nice off white with a bit of gray so it'll work in an open concept. One thing to be mindful of, is that it can lean a little pink or purple depending on the lighting. I like that, but if you're using it in an open concept, it might look different in different parts of your space so just something to be aware of. Hope that helps!
