- Nestled amidst the stunning landscapes of Ireland, Wexford town stands as a testament to the country's evolving cultural landscape. For more than nine decades, the country adopted a controversial ban on the sale of alcohol, effectively transforming Ireland into a dry state on Good Friday. However, in 2018, this long-standing tradition came to an end, sparking a new era of transformation and rejuvenation for towns like Wexford.
As I embark on a journey through the streets of Wexford six years after the ban was lifted, the significant changes that have taken place are palpable. Both locals and visitors can now experience a vibrant social scene, offering a delightful mix of traditional Irish charm and modernity.
As Ireland bid farewell to nearly a century of prohibition on Good Friday in 2018, Wexford emerged as a shining example of a town transformed by the lifting of the ban. The town has flourished, embracing the opportunities that come with social and cultural liberation. From revitalized pubs and burgeoning craft breweries to an enhanced tourism industry, Wexford continues to showcase its unique blend of tradition and progress. Walking through the charming streets, this transformation becomes evident, leaving visitors with a sense of awe and delight.

Easter
When i was young in the 70s. We worked until midday on Good Friday. Life was as ususl until midday, then most places closed at midday. However it was not an official day off. My Dad always worked on good Friday all day. Sad that people went to such lengths as you state to get a drink on one of the two days in the year that the pubs were closed .
It was a bit mad.

Ironically, in New Zealand all stores, including liquor stores, are closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. And NZ isn't an overly religious country. Ireland has come a long way. Great video.
Thanks Derek 🙂
