Sonic 1 SMS Remake (v1.0.H) ✪ Encore Mode - Extended Gameplay (1080p/60fps)

- Sonic 1 SMS Remake is a complete redesigned version of the Master System version of Sonic The Hedgehog created by João Araya aka. Creative Araya.
So its been awhile since the last time I did a showcase on this fan game. There have been a couple of updates since that time, this here being the latest version, and below you can see a list of new additions.
What's new in version (1.0.H):
- New Zone: Star Light
- New game modes:
Encore (5 characters)
Competition (2p versus wi-fi)
- New options menu
- Keymap system
- Bluetooth Gamepads
- New pop-up system
- "Press to start" for gamepads/keyboard
Fixes:
- Super Sonic damage boss
- Sound fixes
- Goal Plate on floor
- Spring Yard ramps
- Scrap Brain 3: new trap monitor
- And more fixes...
Since Encore Mode was on the list of "What's New," that was the first thing worth checking out, but I also added in 2 codes beforehand. The level order I tried here is sort of a reference to the genesis version of Sonic 1.
If curious to know how I added them, simply go to the version on the main menu and press it 8x times until you hear a ring sound. Once that sound goes, you can add whatever cheat is available. The 2 that I used were Zone Select (PRESS: UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, UP, DOWN) & 7 Chaos Emeralds (PRESS: DOWN, DOWN, UP, UP, DOWN, UP).

Love to see those 16-bit levels translated in 8-bit. It's really one of those things I dreamed of back in the days :')

@@vertujoe2886 Yeah, but in a way, I really liked Bridge and Jungle zone in the 8-bit version... perhaps we just need a new Sonic game (Sonic Mania 2?) with all the zones from both versions of the game xD
@@FilippoGameAudio we can't blame the 90s developer without considering how deeper of the understanding of the hardware was made during past 3 decades. The SMS sonic actually a very decent port. But no match between this new port. Maybe we rally need a new totally retro look sonic, instead of a sonic generations style full 3d remake.

This is amazing! :) but why no Bridge, no Jungle?
Looks very promising, one of the best adaptions of the original engine I have seen in a long time. But here are some of my thoughts:
- right now the monitors make you switch to the next character. I think the gameplay would be a lot better if you had a different monitor for each character. That way your levels could have alternative routes only accessible with a specific character.
- your level design needs a big rework. The levels as they are now look more like a test for the engine. Each new world should bring something new to the table. If you impliment the idea above then this could help as new characters can be used in later stages.
I look forward to what you will do with this. It looks solid and is very original. Great work.

I think this Sonic 1 remake has almost the same new features as the Sonic 2 remake and that makes the latter lose some value because of that.
Really enjoy the gameplay. Would make a perfect spin off series and the fact everything altogether makes it a nice game. Wish Sega could've developed something like this in the past to make it a starter game. All thanks for you uploading today 👍🏿

How many megabits is this? I always thought the Master system would have done a lot better if the cartridges could have been bigger
Would need to be a 256mbit cart as its almost 32MB in size, maybe with some optimisation you could get it down but this is well out of the scope of the SMS.

habia estado tratando de diseñar un juego de sonic en game maker pero me desanime porque nunca pude programar el loop ni tampoco la misma fisica que en sega megadrive pero al ver este hack entendi que no debe ser igual a un juego de sonic megadrive , lo volvere a iniciar de cero y lo terminare

Why do they always go OTT with their remakes.
Gotta be honest with this one... I don't like this remake that much. I mean, i like the ideas and some of the improvements done in comparision to the original, but the overall gameplay ruins it most of the time. Very heavy, rough movement, slow, and very odd physics. I mean, Sonic Blasting Adventure played far better than this, and it's another 8-bit Sonic fangame like this one.

@@carmenramirez7457 The Sonic 2 remake felt a lot better physics-wise, but I had no idea why they chose Shadow being paired with Metal and not Fang. Shadow isn't even a thing in the classic dimension.
But back to Sonic 1...
The encore mode feels too similar. There really isn't any layout or palette changes, making it feel a bit too much like usual retread.

Too bad there isn't a physics guide for Sonic 1 and 2 SMS. Maybe if I get better at programming, I can make one. Also, for SMS Sonic games, do y'all feel Sonic 1 or Sonic 2 had better physics?

Pardon my ignorance.. is this in a master system emulator or is it a whole new game?
New game entirely, for PC and Android. The developer also has one based on Sonic 2, and is constantly adding new features and content. I’m going to have to re-download these games, because I think the version I have is outdated now.

@Uzi Rana Eh, that song was ok, but my actual argument is that if you play the same track on Genesis vs. Game Gear, it is almost guaranteed to sound way better.
@Uzi Rana Well, yes. Nobody said the limitations weren't there. It still doesn't change the fact that Genesis sounds better than the Game Gear's sound chip. All of the iconic tracks from Sonic 1 should never be 8 bit because they just don't get the justice that they deserve.
