    Joseph Bologne Chevalier de Saint Georges was a master of the sword, the bow, and the baton! He was also an amazing composer who influenced the teenaged Mozart and performed his music for the King and Queen of France. I am working on getting the funding so that my Four Seasons Orchestra of Arizona can perform some of Bologne's violin concertos, symphonic works, and operatic arias. Donations to our nonprofit are always welcome. I will be first in line to see Chevalier. I put his biography into my book Fifty Famous Composers For Kids Of All Ages! Bologna was brilliant and he is sure to amaze the World!

      Guadeloupe's Blacks did their best to resist the invaders under a battle cry of "Live Free or Die!'; and from that brave effort came two tragic- heroic stories; I made videos about them too. The 'Mulaltresse Solitude', and the story of the explosive last stand at the Anglemont Plantation.

They've been available to listen to on CZcams forever, and he's a name familiar to plenty of classical fans ALREADY. Mozart composed works as a child BEFORE and then long AFTER those 2.5 months he lived near Chevalier, his style changing radically from one period to the next, AND had been influenced in turn by composers decades and centuries before HIM: it's not like when White America acted like Elvis Presley "invented" Rock and Roll by slapping a coat of White skin, er, "paint" on it. Yeah, patterns exist (again, the White appropriation of Rock and Roll in America) but just because one exists doesn't mean every dot you see connects back to the same line, as it were. Sometimes it IS cultural erasure (AND PEOPLE SHOULD BE MORE AWARE OF IT)...and sometimes when you're saying "well, who knows WHAT of IF he composed anything?" you should first make sure you're NOT talking about one of the then-well-regarded, still-well-remembered-and-performed composers of his period?

    This guy was great at everything. He also taught France's General Thomas-Alexander Dumas, (the father of the famous author Alexander Dumas) how to use the sword. There needs to be a movie about Thomas Alexander Dumas also. His story is almost as great & sad as The Chevalier. Napoleon's jealousy of his size, strength & fighting ability got him thrown in a dungeon that eventually broke & killed him. Most of Alexander Dumas' books like the Three Musketeers & The Count of Monte Cristo were likely inspired by his father's life stories. The Chevalier was so much more than a great violinist. They left his entire military career out of this movie. He lead & taught the Legion Noire (The Black Legion), the best swordsmen in the French military, who all were Black men, how to fight. (I'd bet that the Three Musketeers story by Alexander Dumas was inspired by the Black Legion, since his father was also in that military unit at one point in his career).

    I'm a Middle School Orchestra teacher, and I just learned about him a few years ago (sad that required COLLEGE level music history courses never mentioned his name). @@hortleberrycircusbround9678 I actually DID learn about Rameau in my music history classes. And "average" is just an opinion, isn't it? Wagner is considered one of the "greats", yet I really don't like any of his music. And let's remember that no less of a composer than JS Bach's work was largely forgotten and ignored until Felix Mendelssohn started performing it about 100 years after it was 1st composed. Now everyone and their cousin performs and records Bach ad nauseam! But I can't help but think that music history courses before Mendelssohn would've only mentioned Bach as a footnote.
      Time will tell, but I'm personally excited to hear Boulogne's music. Again, the more well-known composers have been performed and recorded TO DEATH, so it's kind of refreshing to hear one that hasn't!

    • @SabatSch95
      @SabatSch95 Před rokem

      "Hidden Figures" is pure race-baiting propaganda. They quite literally took what a white man accomplished & made it seem like the three black women did it all... it's funny how you people talk about "untold" stories, and then praise stories that untell the truth in favor of some foolish race-pandering nonsense. Never mind the fact that the three black women quite LITERALLY stated that they never felt "held back" or that "racism" was a major factor, as they said "no one had time for that", yet the movie acts like they were being brutally held back every second of their lives. Such a joke.
      You cannot complain about "untold" stories when these "stories" were very much TOLD. Joseph's music is quite literally all over this site with MILLIONS of views. His "story" is very much known among the classical music world.
      Have you ever heard of Rachmaninnoff? Of course not, doesn't mean his story is "untold", it just means that a person who doesn't care for classical music isn't aware of everything that happened. Does that justify me making some deluded narrative about how Rach was "forgotten" because he was a white man? Do you see how foolish that sounds?
      As for this movie, it's bordering on complete fiction. Yes he was what could be considered a "prodigy". No, he did not humiliate Mozart & was not even REMOTELY on Mozart's level. What a joke. Not to mention he didn't shape France's literal history as this trailer clearly suggests.
      I swear, the desperation of black ppl to cling unto fake history for the sake of their own fragile ego is truly pathetic. Take pride in your humanity. If you really want to take pride in your racial history, then take pride in what ACTUALLY happened. Instead of.... this nonsense.

      Poor poor Empress' daughter . She had more courage and sense than the men around her. Is this yet another saying that she never really said. Her era believed in Divine Right of Kings so it's really a throwaway statement . Mozart as we all know will never be toppled . It takes a lot of Hadyn listening before you find just one keyboard concerto out of 11 that you can listen to and out of 107 symphonies luckily there is always a treat in one of the hundreds of movements. Recently fell in lovewith the earliest ones. JohannChristian Bach really deserves his place with Hadyn .!
