Really? So every single thing in the narrative has to tie back to candy somehow? The story is about uncovering Nana's corruption and investigating why the gummies have gone sour, and while doing this you inadvertently find the Cavities throughout. The whole Cavity subplot culminates in this moment, and sets the stage for the whole arc. Saying this doesn't fit because it's not candy related is kind of nonsensical, you're looking at it from such a surface level understanding.
