@@Brillenerd Most important time!
Friendly reminder that TGH here is doing what months ago were *TAS BOT* tricks.
Insane.
I was just thinking about how (aside from the deaths) this looks like a TAS run. Crazy
@@super2thesam There's actually a video out there that compares Teej's current any% PB with a TAS from last year. With the current strats TGH actually beats it by several seconds.
Jeremy Quiros absolutely insane
Hi I’m from the future. It’s really crazy how much this run has been optimized.

*laughs in Farewell a few months later*
Yeah my difficulty ranking is
1: Farewell
2:7C
3:6B
farewell is a breeze compared to 6b and 7c
Personnally, I struggled much more on 7B or even 8A than I did on 6B. I don't really get it, why do people find it so difficult ?

Got to the end of the game and only then figured about hearts b and c sides and im already at 2k :(
I am not going to beat b and c sides.
@@goruguro I believe in you
@@goruguro b and c sides aren't actually that bad, I finished all of them with ~4K deaths total can't remember though
@@goruguro As other said, the B sides are pretty fun actually. They even matched my skill curve pretty well so what I learned when beating the summit enabled me to beat the B sides in a reasonable amount of time.
The crowd transforming shouting ORB to also shouting SPRING and CLOUD always gets me

An amazing run, orb chants notwithstanding, but "Revo's Nonsense" (46:38) and the reaction to it is the stand-out moment for me. I've never seen Punchy so elated. :)
This run is both awe-inspiring and depressing because I don't think I'll ever be this good at a video game. I've only played Celeste very casually, but before this I had no idea C-sides even existed.
Pixlriffs What are you doing here?!

“do we have revo’s nonsense” is going to become a part of my vocabulary
Revo's nonsense is still the most commonly used name for that strat
I hope that Celeste speedruns will become a tradition of all GDQs like Super Metroid. Always up for a chance to listen to this amazing soundtrack and watch insane moves that speedrunners do. Thank you Matt and your team for creating this game, thank you Lena Raine for making the soundtrack that is so good and thank you Celeste community for routing the game!
To anyone still on the fence about buying this game because it's too hard, I highly recommend it. It was the first platformer I've played in years and I racked up well over a thousand deaths my first time through. I still remember my first time doing summit C side nearly a year ago. It took nearly 3 hours and 1 rage quit to do it. I do get frustrated with a lot of games easily but that was the only stage where I felt the effort required to complete a stage soured the feeling of accomplishment when you actually finish it. For every other level the struggle was just a build up to make completing each level feel like a huge accomplishment.
But the most amazing thing about this game is you *will* master it to a level you never thought possible by the time you finish it all. Whoever on the couch said "it's the hardest game anyone can beat" is dead on in my opinion. It looks very hard and daunting, especially watching someone speedrun it, but the game builds up at a perfect pace to keep you almost always challenged but rarely overwhelmed. It's one of if not my favorite game of all time because no other game teaches you it's mechanics and makes you master them to the level that this does. After not touching the game for around 5 to 6 months, I decided to replay it for fun and managed to clear all levels and get all strawberries in around 10 hours of playing, less than half the time it took me the first time through despite having not played for a long time. That was the 2nd time I ever tried summit C side and I finished it in just over 8 minutes. You improve so much and it's one of the best feelings of accomplishment I've felt playing a game to go through and replay it a 2nd time.
You can pin this one.
There are few "hard" games that I can recommend anyone plays. Games like "I wanna be the guy" or "Dark Souls" are fun but aren't for everybody. Celeste is a beautiful game from start to finish not only for it's story, social commentary, phenomenal soundtrack but because the mechanics of the game are so deceptively simple and yet the skill ceiling for the game is so incredibly high. Few games contain the level of polish and love you can find within Celeste. +1 to the recommendation train. Absolutely worth every death and bit of frustration going for that 100% completion which you WILL want to go for once you make it through the A sides.
I beat Summit C for the first time yesterday and it was probably the only level that almost made me give up entirely. But I kept trying and dying anyway because I felt like I _needed_ to complete it all by myself without using assist mode. I guess after all that time and effort you put into playing this game it really feels like completing this challenge was the only thing that could bring closure, or something.
I was so exhilarated and happy when I finally did beat it, though! I love what the old lady says at the end about being 'attached to the struggle', that was on point. Methinks it's kinda poetic to have her be the first and last character you see on your journey.
The learning curve of this game is just absolutely perfect in every way. It was genius game design to incorporate advanced movement options into this game that aren't necessary to complete it. Once you learn things like supers, hypers, wall hypers, and ultras you start seeing places where they can be applied, giving this game wonderful replay value with only 7 chapters in the main game.
Thank you for this comment - despite what I've heard the game just seemed too frustrating to play for me, but your comment has convinced me to buy it.
"TG likes to skip cutscenes really quickly." I know it's just a speedrunning thing, but that just made me laugh cuz he ran Undertale in the past. That's what most of that speedrun is lol
Celeste doesn't have a punchcard tho
God, the chat must have been so bad once the orb chants started
Take how bad you think it was, now multiply that by 1orborb (100)
It was an honor being able to commentate for a runner as talented at TGH as well as for one of my favorite games of all time. Matt & his team really gave us something special & it was a privilege to be able to help share it with the world.
114% run on gdq when?
Orb
"We have now become Pink Celeste" killed me. Great run!
I have over 71k deaths, so I don't think I'll be donating a dollar per death

Holy mother of mercy WHAT IS THAT SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEED
Check the TASBot run from 2018. That's the speed.
you should watch the TAS from last year. It's literally inhuman speeds! :^)
it's amazing how the run has changed through the yeass
It's so interesting bc wr level Celeste does look TOTALLY different now, but his movement and execution and stuff is still on par with the rest of top level speedrunning (minus some strats here and there). Bro was CRACKED
1:27:15 You raised my hopes and dashed them quite expertly sir. Bravo.
It's rare for me to simultaneously think, "This looks absurdly hard." while still wanting a game. As soon as I get into a really chill mood, I'm gonna die so much.
next year, let's see the 100%. don't neglect the strawberries
Feels bad man
What about the golden ones
true 100%?....
like
you cant expect them to get the chapter 9 gold berry
no
just no lmao
Even better, 202 berries run
After ~2300 deaths on my playthrough, it's mind-blowing seeing someone utterly destroy this game.
I have over 20000 lmao. It took me ages to learn how to get fluid. My best speedrun is only 2:00:24.8 lmao
What a fantastic performance, great commentary and interaction with the audience!
I was worried they weren't gonna post this!
this is one of the best speedruns i`ve ever seen. so entertaining, great commentary and anouncer. and TGH is on an other stratosphere with this game.
This was so satisfying to watch and the commentary and jokes made this even better. I love this game.
This is one of the most impressive speedruns I've ever seen!
Such a great game to watch speed runs for. TGH is such an awesome guy and it was followed up by Linkus' killer WWHD run. One of the best AGDQs in a while for me.
I laughed so much while watching this! What a wonderful run :)
ORB!!!
I happened to catch this speedrun live, and seeing the tight platforming and hearing the great music inspired me to pick it up myself. It's almost ridiculous how easy he really makes it look, but even when I'm dying dozens of times on the same screen, I'm really really glad I was introduced to it!
Celeste has THE BEST speedrunning community on the internet
If I heard right, Lena Raine, who made most of the game's music, donated 100 dollars !? Dang.
Yeah, kind of dissapointing that they didn't mention that she's the game's OST composer.
@@rottenmuffin826 They did, and they gave a shout out to her after reading her donation.
and Minecraft pigstep
The audience, the couch, the speed runner and the game: this is the apotheosis of a perfect gdq
TGH is a fantastic runner and Celeste is a great game. Because this is GDQ, my kids can actually watch TGH crush this game. Great job as always TGH, watching your Undertale runs is what got me into speedrunning.
Those gamer kids
Can’t wait to see TGH do a 100% run next year, all golden berries LLEETTTT’S GGGGOOOOO
all golden berries would be a 114% run, 100% gets only red berries
I want that on gdq so badly. He said he will never do it, but we all know he will
Would they really give him 8 hours to do it, though?
@@cubedmelons876 hope he can do it faster now, they might not be able to, but we can dream
@@Dannidan Yeah, I don't see the point of doing 114% in a marathon. Other than the dashless golden, going for 114% shows the viewers nothing else new or interesting in the game. I'd love to see 100% with the dashless golden as a donation incentive.
This and Ori and the blind forest are my fav games to watch speedrun...
This was so fun to watch!!

I remember 5-c driving me to actual tears. Seeing it beaten in under 30 seconds is... an experience.
I just replayed this game today and beat the A sides in 3 hrs 20 and felt great about it, TGH looks like hes playing a completely different game !
Nice! Im gonna replay them now :)
One of my favorite speedruns
Me: Barely able to play the game
Speed runners: Basically flying
I bought this game cuz of this GDQ and it was the best $30 I ever spent and now im working on 100% it
i love speed runs. This guy is awesome
This is the greatest audience I've ever seen.
Absolutely mind-blowing.
One of my favorite runs of my absolute favorite game. I've watched it many times, and keep coming back to it when I'm tired and just want to watch something comforting.
"We have revo's nonsense!!!" :D
When badeline starts hearing boss music like "oh shit" and starts running at 200 kmph while TGH is catching up to her
love the run!😃👏
Where the legend began
awesome run
21:08 Lena Raine made the soundtrack, yes, but not the B-sides which is what I assume they are referring to. The composer of the B-side soundtrack of chapter 3 is Christa Lee.
23:50 Ok yeah they are referring to the B-sides, once again, not made by Lena Raine, they are remixed by different artists.
So fun watching this just after I completed the game casually
"Much less floor" is the best summary of how Celeste's difficulty increases work that I've ever heard.
Goddamn this game is beautiful. Run was awesome.
This game made me cry
This run is nuts
Awesome... I got the platinum in ps4 after around 20h... toughest screens done in seconds is absolutely amazing. Great run!!

In retrospect this may be the best speedrun of agdq of all time
Extremely fast O R B moving at incredible speed
This run was very fun to watch
Truly orb
1:18:56 screen wipe is a heart shape, huh. Nice touch
C9 has stars for the wipe
C8 has a heart for the wipe
C7 has an arrow for the wipe
C6 has a feather I think?
C5 I think has a weird crt line effect
C4 or was it c4 that had that
C3 has a keyhole screen wipe
And I'm going to stop there because even though I've died to these stages thousands of times, I've never really played attention to the death screen. Which is a testament to how good this game makes the phrase "try try again" fun.
The C-sides are awesome. Kaizo level gameplay.
And here I am practicing a set of jumps at the beginning of the first level of Korosu Mario World.
They are kaizo level but actually not unfair (except for 3c - I hate that one from the bottom of my heart)
YAAAAAAAAAAA IT"S REWIND TIME
Took me a year and a half of on and off trying, but that Summit C-side got the butt kicking it deserved.

Splendid!!
The commentator is really entertaining. Props to you, sir.
Wow, I didn’t know about that 3 frame stutter on dash, but as soon as he mentioned it I could see the little hiccups.
When's the orb% run?
This inspire me to give up speedrun this game
Probably the best gdq run to date.
Orb!
What?! How the... this run is nuts
3b took me over 700 deaths to beat and this man just breezed through it. Good lord.
he`s so humble :)
Bubbles are by definition orbs.
its cool how celeste managed to get on switch. currently my favourite game.
Celeste is one of those games I could count on my all-time favorites _If I had played it yet_
44:48 I can't believe that Lena Raine donated! What an incredible soundtrack
Core took me forever because I thought the right room was a strawberry and I kept trying to dash through the fireballs like at 1:14:04 only it was my first playthrough of the game
Such a flex keeping the berry behind Madeline till the end for absolutely no reason
The funniest part about the filename being Charlotte is that because the game has Strawberries as collectibles, and a Strawberry Charlotte is an actual dessert. Yum.
There's something badass about the way he says "Yup."
TGH is one of the best Celeste players we have ever seen
51:07 ...So that's why I had so much trouble with that feather. That route makes so much more sense. I'm mad. At me. Ouch.

Christ I just finished 3b after dying over 1100 times and this man just blew through it...
IDK why I loved celeste speedrun...
It's funny how many of the screens have been so much more optimized now.
I had soooo much trouble with the part at 9:35 and seeing the runner do it within a minute killed me😫
This game has fantastic level design. I still can't believe I managed to get everything except golden strawberries.
