      Marz, this is a great game, glad to see you playing it. Huge tip, no spoilers. This is something that trips up a lot of players: when you're in the shooter segments of the game and you're in the top-down mech segments of the game, you can aim with the right stick. This makes these parts way more manageable and fair. Otherwise you'll be stuck only shooting in the direction in which you're travelling. You can move in one direction and shoot in the other. It'll save you a lot of headache as the game progresses.

    Tips and Pointers:
    1. There is a lock-on system.
    2. Dodging is your friend. Whatever dodge button you have mapped, notice when 2B turns gold and moves in slo-mo...that move will always evade attacks. You can pretty much spam that evade button when in a cluster of enemies and you'll pretty much go unscathed.
    3. If you double jump and then hold the jump button on that 2nd press, you'll glide on your POD.
    4. You'll all get used to it. Have fun! Enjoy!!

      Also that applies to the second playtrough since you'll be able to hack

      I found #2 the most important, followed by #1.
      The controls eventually became second nature. That doesn't happen to me for most other games, e.g. The Last of Us and Uncharted.

  • @kennydude11797
    @kennydude11797 Před 6 lety +32

    A few tips.
    1. Locking on is SUPER useful, you just gotta get used to it. It especially helps during the side scrolling portions as it just clears out all the bubbles if you keep the shoot button pressed down.
    2. I personally customized my controls to make them like bloodborne too. My recommendation would be dodge on circle, light attack R1, heavy attack R2, shoot L2, pod program L1, and lock-on on R3. Everything else is up to your preference, but I found those to make the transition from bloodborne really smooth.
    3. I've seen a few people recommend it already, but once you get plug in chips, get some the give you health every time you attack or defeat an enemy. It REALLY helps.
    4. When you're fighting huge mobs or bosses and you're getting overwhelmed, spamming dodge almost always gets you out of anything unscathed.
    5. When you're flying a mech, swinging your sword thing helps you get rid of the bubbles you can't destroy by shooting.
    6. Lastly, pay attention to enemy eyes. Any time they glow red, that means they're about to attack. Paying attention to that helps you time your dodges and helps make the need to spam dodge less necessary.
    7. Lastly lastly, do stupid stuff all the time. The game has 4 (technically 5) major endings but has 26 total endings, one for each letter of the alphabet. All the endings besides the main ones are basically spoof endings and they're usually pretty funny. I'm not going to tell you how to get them besides to literally just have fun. If you think you shouldn't do something because it sounds stupid, just do it. It'll more than likely give you one of the endings and probably even a good laugh. Just have fun with the game lol.

    • @MariaRodriguez-hb4ix
      @MariaRodriguez-hb4ix Před 6 lety +5

      Health gaining chips are good on lower difficulties . If trying the highest . Putting more defensive or increase attacks are more important . As all enemies will kill you on one shot . At least at first . Chips to increase drops are very helpful . Also adding a couple of increasing experience are not so bad idea .

    • @Equinoksl
      @Equinoksl Před 6 lety +5

      I want to add that, as the game noted, there is *no autosafe feature*, so if you want to attempt one of the spoof endings, you should safe manually, or you could loose a lot of progress.

    • @MariaRodriguez-hb4ix
      @MariaRodriguez-hb4ix Před 6 lety +2

      Equinoksl the programmers actually know we were going to die doing some of those endings. These are the only times auto save is enabled . . But is a good precaution saving before attempting anything funny.

    • @Equinoksl
      @Equinoksl Před 6 lety

      Well if autosave is enabled for these endings, why did she have to start all over again when she got ending W? Granted you only loose a ferw minutes of progress, but i think if that would have been the case, one would assume she would start at least right before the bridge.
      But then again it was a while since i last played it, and i have to confess i only got like 3 or 4 of the optional endings, so i can't say for sure if this is true for all of them.
      Though i'm pretty sure i lost a good chunk of progress when i got the Jackass ending.

    Okay, after spending almost 100 hours playing and watching this game, I *just* noticed that the "spherical effect around a weapon while you carry it on your back" is the exact same effect as when the pod carries something (i.e. Engels' arm in the boss fight).
    So, when you put your weapons behind you, you don't seathe them, or they don't just stick to you/remain midair. The pods actually actively carry your weapons.
    Yoko Taro thought of that. Yoko Taro thought of that ultra small detail that I noticed on my 3rd play/watchthrough.

      but the point i was trying to make, is that the games you mentioned for exemple (excepted for Bloodborne), are, like Nier, story driven game. right? But the experience of niers story is catapulted by the fact that everything in the game, including the menu, the chips, the map, everything you can think of, is part of the immersivve experience. its all a big theme!. And im not even speaking about the story being transcendent in the real world. so in that regard, it is more unique to me than say last of us wich could be more easily made into a movie. hope that made sense lol

Nier ia a game masterpiece, as a whole while in many games we don't appreciate a game, but their single elements like narrative, music, characters, acting, world design and so on. I know everyone's giving you lots of good gameplay tips, but the one main thing I want to say is that the endings aren't exactly endings in the traditional sense. There are 26 endings to the game, but only A, B, C, D and E are the really important ones. Endings A and B especially are basically "congratulations on completing Disc 1/Disc 2!" There's still a lot more story left after those two.

    A few little tips:
    -You can aim the pod shooting during side scrolling sections using the right stick.
    -Pink orbs can be destroyed by shooting them, the darker purple orbs can be destroyed with melee attacks.
    -When you see an enemies eyes flash red, that's basically the timing prompt to dodge.
    -The lock-on is more or less for the pod. Locks all the shots to that target but you can still freely attack other enemies with melee.
    -When all else fails.. mash the dodge button XD which is what I did a few times when things got too crazy.

    Simple tip that will apply throughout the game: pink bubbles can be destroyed by bullets. Dark purple bubbles cannot. Purple bubbles can, however, be destroyed by melee.

    This game is so underrated! Definitely got a little overshadowed by the release of the Switch and Zelda. I think you're gonna love it! Only tip I can think of right now would be to use your evade more often, if you time it right and attack immediately after, you'll do a counter attack that launches most enemies into the air. Looking forward to more of this and Bloodborne!

    This game is something else. Without giving spoilers you basically play to the mid point of the game twice in two different perspectives in routes A and B. Then Route C is a continuation of the story to the end. There’s two endings at the end you choose between. After seeing one, chapter select opens up and you can see the other almost immediately. The final ending will present itself automatically after seeing the second ending. Get those tissues ready Marz, you’re gonna need them :)

    The combat system of Nier is very different from Bloodborne in the way that it focus more on chaining the most number of combo possible rather than planning for each individual hit or a small chain. It may be useful to mix heavy attacks with light attacks. When up in the air, heavy attack allows you to do a plunging attack. The bubbles might be annoying when you try to evade but you can make them disappear by melee attacks. Evading in Nier is kind of like parrying in Bloodborne but it allows you to chain a special combo after it ti deal massive damage. Hope these tips will help.

    Marz here are a few tips i can give you.
    1: You can aim UP with you Pod during the sidescroller portions.
    2: You can equip 2 different weapons. A light and a heavy one, and you can switch between them with a button press (which you even accidently did)^^
    3: You can shoot in one direction while walking into another. VERY helpful during overhead view sections.
    4: During the fight against the Boss, when he was swinging his arms at you, the camera locked into position and you can't change it anymore.
    5: G is basically this games currency. Also pick up everything. You'll gonna need it^^
    6: When you aim low with the camera to peek under her skirt and walk slowly for a while, something funny happens ;)
    7: Try to swipe UP a few times on the Dualshock 4's touch pad and see what happens :D
    If you have any further questions feel free to ask.

    Thanks for taking the time to make content for this game - definitely a sleeper classic that gets overlooked for it's rather, um, "problematic" character design. Which is understandable, but slightly exaggerated as you need to put effort in to turn it pervy. Onto suggestions:
    1 - As other comments have stated, lock-on is useful in some situations. You can lock onto a threatening target and continue to shoot your pod's weapon while using melee to clear up the ground duders, or use it to sustain damage against a highly mobile enemy while focusing on dodging. Ultimately getting used to both using your pod's static weapon, special ability, and your melee abilities (including dodging) are the key to success.
    2 - All that stuff you're picking up is part of the pseudo-crafting system in the game. You'll find vendors that will ask for these parts to make or upgrade your inventory. No spoilers for what's important or not to keep, though!
    3 - You'll probably get into the "chip" system in the next segment. It's your primary customization pathway and skill tree. It's not super intuitive, so either straight up ignore it or really dig around in between uploads to explore it (worth the digging, imo).
    Good luck, have fun, and I hope to follow your journey.
    Glory to mankind!

    One tip is that when you're firing your pod, you can control the direction... like when it's side-scrolling, you can fire diagonally and up. I noticed you had some trouble with the flying enemies. The pod really helps with those. I can't remember the exact button you press to control the firing direction, but you'll just have to fool around with it, lol.

    Probably should have kept the controls on default so you wouldn’t be having issues with the controls.
    Also, you can use the right thumb stick to control the direction of your gun in certain situations, such as when the camera locks above or to the side, and when you’re in the flight unit.

    • @MikeWillisUK

    Utilize the dash for dodges. Aim with right stick any time you fire. Firing ammo and sword attacks together is your friend. I’d do L1 or something for lock one.

  • @JPGameStuffs
    @JPGameStuffs Před 6 lety

    You can shoot through the lighter bubbles, but not the darker ones. Your Pod acts as support fire while you're attacking, so you can fire constantly once you get used to it. Oh, and remember you can use the right stick to aim the Pod shots in those sections that are overhead or sidescrolling :)

    What I recommend: Do the side quests. Others might not agree with me on this one, but in my opinion they are important. You're doing alright Marz. Since I wasn't used to the controls, my camera work in the beginning was abyssmal and I could hardly keep the enemies on screen for me to hit!
    One thing I noticed that will really help you is that when you're in the "shoot'em up"-mode where you fly around and shoot the enemies that shoot balls at you, that you should use one stick to steer the flight unit and the other stick to control where you shoot the, so you can strafe around the enemies while shooting them, instead of heading towards them when you shoot.
