    I bought this system based on this well done video. I wouldn't call it a security system because it can't be depended on. I try to use continuous recording on one camera that's powered 100% of the time but it keeps reverting to motion, meaning that it frequently misses what you want to see. Also, the motion alert, like you would use on a front door, takes several minutes before it goes off on the phone app. Sometimes as long as 30 minutes. I've spend a lot of time and money with custom mounting on this system and am very disappointed with it. Oh - and if you leave a negative review of this on the Lorex web site they take it down. Keep shopping for something else.

      The lorex stuff is good, that is if you buy wired nvr stuff. I bought a lorex 8 channel wired NVR POE system four years ago and have been super happy with it. Even all of my ring cameras are wired POE as well. never a skip, never miss a beat. Stay with wired if you want 100% capture 100% of the time.

    Very good review, so much that I bought one. Unfortunately it connected for only one night after that nothing. I’ve tried everything and the app keeps saying my base station is offline. So frustrating. Packed it up and sent it back. Stay away from this thing. It’s cheap and there’s a reason why.

    • @exavierme
      @exavierme Před rokem +2

      @@Ebruhhk I did end up getting this security system. I have mixed feelings about it. As a wireless camera system it’s comparable to any others, Wyze, Blink, etc. It has identical and/or similar features to those. I was not sold on this system because it is wireless. My previous experience w/ (Wyze) wireless systems, including this Lorex one, is that charging and power could be a potential issue. I chose this one because we rent our home so I’m not allowed to drill and run cables in the wall for a more reliable system. In order to rectify some tedious effort, I connected each camera to a solar panel. But I still find that the cameras die and use up power very quickly. Many times I still have to take out the battery to charge it myself, which defeats the purpose for me. I’ll be fair and state that I didn’t put scientific research into placing the solar panels. I placed in areas I know get sun. Additionally, the cameras make this annoying sound when they need to be charged, which can be heard (or disturb) neighbors. So overall I’m satisfied, given it’s wireless potential, but if I had the option to, I’d get a wired system.

I'm a security consultant who does commercial grade security sales but I always have family and friends that want less expensive options. Curious, how are the cams holding up battery-wise with the solar panel? I'm hearing mixed reviews on it. Also how does the HDMI display on your TV or monitor when you switch over to that input? does it wake all the cameras up? Or do you have to use the remote to select the camera to open it up?thanks!!😊

    So... I'm presently considering this system at the moment. I presently have a HIVE system with HIVE view, but Hive are withdrawing it next year (which is fecking criminal!), so I need to change to something else. The HIVE wireless cam's work superbly, record really well and the app is pretty good. It's such a shame that they're going to be bricked next Summer.
    Anyway - a year later after this review, are you still using this system? Reading through the comments below, there seem to be some unhappy people that aren't getting on well with the batteries needing to be charged every week or two... so they claim.
    Now that you've had the system for a year, do you still stand behind everything in your video review? If it was your money, would you buy it?
    Finally, are there any other systems that you think that someone should also be considering if they're looking at this Lorex system?
    Personally, I want WiFi cams, with local NVR (no cloud) recording and NO SUBSCRIPTION (ever) to access your content. This Lorex system seems to fit the bill perfectly, but I'd also look at anything else before making a final decision.
    Many thanks

      hello! So it's still being used at my mother in laws house. I moved and am using a wired camera system at the new house, as I wanted many more than 4 cameras/channels.
      The system is still working/being used. They've had to charge it a few times when the camera's die/go offline, so if you aren't using dedicated solar or power line, dealing with that can be a hassle. Occasionally a camera has gone offline, then comes back several hours later or sometimes the next day. A power cycle of the camera instantly brings them back online, so i'm not sure what caused the lapse. The camera closest to the transmitter never goes offline.
      I think it's a situation where your mileage may vary depending on your setup and included hardware. The app and notification system works just fine. The wireless connectivity seems to be the only occasional issue, and that's heavily influenced by your setup. I would typically prefer wired when possible, but it's hard to say if other wireless solutions have the same issues or not.

      Thank you for taking the time to reply - very much appreciated.
      I'd agree that PoE would always be preferable, but the thought of trying to route three or four ethernet cables from all corners of the house, to a central NVR just don't bear thinking about. It would be an appalling mess.
      However, I've been thinking about this for the last few mins. Do you happen to know if you could use access point / repeaters for the PoE cameras, to effectively turn them into wireless cam's?
      I use a Draytek router and Draytek AP repeaters around the house. All of the AP's are powered by the mains, and have 3 LAN ports on them. I'm wondering if I could have one of these repeaters on the inside wall of where I would want to place a camera on the outside wall, and have a short ethernet cable running through the wall from the AP to the camera to both power it, and provide it with LAN access. Do you happen to know if the cameras would then be able to connect to and communicate with the NVR (which would also be connected to the same ethernet LAN, located either at the router or a switch)?
      If this would work - then a PoE system could work in my home....
      PS - thank you for taking the time and trouble to make these detailed reviews. They are really helpful.
      PPS - what wired system did you select for yourself at the new house?

    Can you share the update info regarding the issue with the solar panels? Mine are chirping all morning as they switch to solar. They also seem to keep dropping out when hooked to the solar panel.

    • @lunchbox6080
      @lunchbox6080 Před rokem +3

      When I hooked up the solar panels they would "chirp, chirp". I called Lorex tech support and they said to upgrade camera firmware. Lorex sent an email with a file to down load on a usb flash drive (quick format flash drive first in FAT32 which is normal). All good until tech support said to insert the flash drive in the usb port on the nvr. I did that and there was no file, just a blank screen. When you initially setup the system you plug in all the cables and the mouse. There are 2 usb ports on the NVR, 1 is labeled Mouse/Backup the other Storage, so naturally you plug the mouse into the one labeled Mouse/Backup. I then thought after 3 phone calls and 4 days with tech support, I wonder, I plugged the mouse into the usb port labeled Storage and the mouse still works. I then put the flash drive into the usb port labeled Mouse/Backup and there is the file!!!. It is not a ".bin" file though, but it works, don't open it, unzip it or anything. Also make sure your camera batteries are fully charged, at least above 50%, it'll tell you that on the screen. If the cameras are far away and keep "timing out", I had to move one next to the NVR. Give it time to update and the cameras will make a "chirp" before they get to 100%. I had 3 update and had to go back and do the last ones. All cameras now up to date with latest firmware.

    Please help! We have three 2k outdoor cameras with solar panels that we have tried to set up, but we cannot seem to stop the random "beep-beep" coming from the cameras. We have been on the phone with Lorex for hours over the past week trying to sort out this issue. We have updated NVR firmware and camera firmware. This seemed to help, but we are still getting the jarring "beep-beep" coming from the cameras now and then. We have disabled the buzzer option on all cameras. What are we missing?! Is there a way to disable this? We don't want to drive our neighbours (and ourselves) crazy with the "beep-beeps"!
