This song meant so much to me when I was 17, my parents just divorced, I didn't know where to go, I'm now 62, may God bless you all
God bless you to
I lost my best friend December 17 , my heart is broke and it will never heal. I LOVE YOU BUBBY !
Me too! It was my favorite song. I thought it spoke for me. I too am 62.
You gor it . Me too . Canada 63. Brothers 😮 all alone and trapped in time... it's tomorrow now my friend... look ahead and see.. regular life's magic , crystall ball , I just got to know.. see you in Barbados 🇧🇧
same age here too. 63 in a few days. I was a junior in high school at the time of this concert. great to have lived during those years when music was noteworthy.
Good Lord Tommy Shaw is just an incredible talent, voice, guitar, and still to this day has that incredible quality, power & range.
Yep...saw an interview with Rik Emmett (another virtuoso guitarist and vocalist), and he said he and Tommy were pretty close..they asked him to join Damn Yankees, and he said why? You have Tommy and Ted, I think you have it covered, I don't know what I would bring to the table that you don't already have.
Es el paquete completo! Impresionante Tommy
One of the top 10 greatest male voices of all time
Totally agree- I have loved this guy's talent since his inception into Styx, then his brief solo career, and then Damn Yankees, then Shaw/ Blades, then full circle back to Styx. He's an amazing songwriter, guitarist, singer. I would, however, love to see him just One Last Time with DDY, to hear the magic of their voices together again live. Then, afterwards, they can all go do their thing.
So incredibly underrated
@@matthewlyon1233 Who underrated him?? Fucking idiot. One of the most popular bands of the 70’s.
So true
4:04 the two of them together would be awesome to see
please it should happen
Looking back and remembering the night with Styx and Kansas. Was a good show
Who would imagine he has the same voice (or better) 43 years later. Clean living and humbleness are a happy blend for success.
Talent and dedication are also key.
Pretty sure he did some snow...anyway I don't care. Jon Bon Jovi has lived a clean life. I can't find anything on him about ever doing drugs, but his voice is gone. Age doesn't matter. Not everyone is the same.
@@bigelile07 he got sober from that in late 80’s, after his daughter was born,&right before Damn Yankees formed in ‘89,and has been since. You can see him wearing the circle with the triangle inside it pendant in a picture in the 2 Damn Yankees albums liner notes. He’s cleaned up ever since, and is a vegetarian.
@@msmegs93
Okay, but that doesn't change what I said. Steven Tyler did drugs and drank for years and his voice sounds great.
@@msmegs93
I mentioned it because the OP said his voice is the same as it's always been because of clean living which isn't true. Of course Steven Tyler's voice doesn't sound the same way it did in 1972... The man is 74 years old. Again, at 60 years old Jon Bon Jovi's voice is fried, and as far as I know the man has never drank or done drugs in his entire life. Everyone is different.
Tommy Shaw has a simply remarkable voice.
An a remarkable ageless
face, he's aged BETTER
then most WOMEN in
the industry THAT BUY
their YOUTH an LOOKS
😂💘😍
His voice ONLY GOT SO
MUCH BETTER with age!
I'd argue he's also a highly underrated guitarist.
Saw him a couple weeks ago. He’s incredible live. And still sexy, too.
Probably my first "voice crush" as a singer myself. And this is my favorite song of his.
I wish he had sang more songs honestly.
I have always loved Styx. They had positive messages, free of vile messages unlike most of today's groups.
This was me and my best friend's favorite song. We would sit in front of his house in my '66 Mustang and listen to it every night. He passed when he was 20. I wish i could tell you what a great guy he was. Im 62 now but my memories of this are stellar. Thanks to Tommy I still have this forever. I want to hear it live one more time before I go. R.I.P. Dale...
That’s the sad part of life… praying the best is yet to come! RIP Dale
I think his voice has actually gotten better over the last 40+ years.
I totally agree. Remember when this came out, liked the song then, absolutely love it now. His voice and the lyrics have so much more meaning to me in 2024.
one of my all time favorite songs.. the words have so much meaning for me..
I've been a fan of Styx for most of my life. Crystal Ball is my favorite one.
A hidden gem when only a few thousand folks a viewed this Masterpiece! Was 16 when I was at their shows.
I just turned 17 when I saw this tour with UFO
@@gusperez6144 Good call on UFO. Was at the show that parts of Strangers In The Night live, were recorded. Seemed like Styx, UFO, Foghat and Nugent were always rocking the Amphitheater
Saw them in 1981 in Seattle during their Paradise Theater tour. I became a fan of their's in 1979 and have always loved their work. Still the best Concert I've ever been to.
I saw the same tour in Kentucky @
We actually saw the Paradise Theater tour 4 times in a year, lol, my youngest son's first concert in fact, think he was 11 or 12. He still loves their music .
His voice never changes, other than if anything I believe it's much more clear and powerful. God Bless Tommy and Styx, timeless music. Thanks for making a brighter world.
Heard him interviewed and he said occasionally he takes voice training to keep it healthy. Said he always sang high tenor but it is easier to have exercise to make a better sound come out with less energy
That lead was insane!
Seen Tw4 and Styx in Chicago 1970's while in high school they played locally. Still remember to this day the first time we heard them on the radio in Chicago! Shame the hall of fame continues to shine this fantastic group
Tommy Shaw's guitar solo here was insane. Top ten for me.
Very creative, yes.
nah it wasnt that great this was like the prototype sloppy version and very raw,he perfected it later on and it sounds alot better, palm mutes and little nuances
I went to see them during this tour. I was only 14 in 8th grade & they blew me away. When I left I was in awe. Couldn't wait to tell all my friends the next day in school. Im 58 now & love them to this day. Their music takes me back in time. This song will always be a classic
I'm 62 now & I feel u bro
@@tamathawalden2037 I'm female 😂✌️🦋🌻
Awesome memorie!! Awesome!
I was like 16 when I was in 8th grade.
@@tamathawalden2037 I'm 63! Saw them in Pgh in 1979! They were great!!!!!
My favorite Styx song, I don't know why it hasn't been in some Lord of the Rings type movie..
It's been in the movie in
MY HEAD FOR 45+yrs😍
My favorite Styx song. I saw them in Dallas in '96. Was lucky to get front row, off to the side seats. Tommy saw me singing all the words to Crystal Ball and sent a few picks my way. He is a very talented, and very engaging person live. Although, maybe the hot girls in Bikini tops to my left had something to with the picks. Only Tommy knows...
They just don’t make ‘em like that anymore. So awesome!
How much talent can you cram into one band? This much!!
And then, It's LIVE! Wowzie!
Except the guitar solo. That was pretty atrocious for a professional band!
@@tyronejefforeillyramirez7961 send us a link to yours so we can enjoy solos better than Tommy Shaw.
@@thesaneparty4079 did you think that all by yourself? Very clever. Shaw still sucks!
@@tyronejefforeillyramirez7961idk man that solo was pretty badass
What a great guy, a totally humble man. I had a sports store in a southside Chicago mall back in the early 80's & Styx would record their albums at a very small studio next door to the mall called Pumpkin Studios. He came into my store once on a recording break to kill time while recording an album. I noticed him right away & when he walked in I happened to be on the phone with a friend of mine. I told him that Tommy Shaw just walked in & my friend didn't believe me. He said if it's him then put him on the phone.....I did & he talked to my friend like he knew him. Afterward he bought a bunch of things from me, a raquetball raquet, a bunch of raquetballs & some warmups or track suits. I don't play guitar but the guy i was on the phone with was a guitar player & just the day before I was at his place and just happened to pick up a copy of Guitar Player magazine on his table & started reading an interview that none other, Tommy Shaw gave to them. I told him that & he said that that was THE only interview he ever gave where they printed exactly everything that he had said & that they were totally honest. But again, what a great guy he was.
I am 61 and love Styx!! First time I saw them they were opening band for Kiss in Ft Worth Tx, Styx blew Kiss off the stage!!!
no surprise there!
Styx started when I was a toddler, I've grown up loving them though but only thanks to youtube can I see them live- I'm blown away at how good they are WOW. Can you imagine bands now having to perform like this without gimmicks and auto tune?
Never got into Kiss but now I'm going to have to watch a live one of their's- have a feeling there will be no comparison.
@@annie68164 kiss was my first concert in August '77 in Portland. There's no comparisons to be made. Love both but they're styles are so different.
@brucetaylor if Styx opened how did they "blow" kiss of the stage???
He's always had such a sweet face kind of sweet and naive. Combine it with that amazing voice is just sublime.
That sound, and no auto-tune
Wow. This guys an American treasure.
Amen! And he still Rocks !!!
The beginning of this song with Tommy Shaw singing is magical....
October, 1977 Madison Square Garden, New York City with Angel opening. I've never been the same since. What a freakin' voice!
Tommy Shaw. Criminally underrated!
Indeed!
Tommy pulled this band into the stratosphere
Every comment on YT is underrated.
Nope. A long career still going. Huge back then,& still
Jimi Jamison the front man for Survivor also has a beautiful voice. RIP Jimmy ❤. I really like this song crystal ball , and I'm sailing away.. ❤ Kansas dust in the wind, carry on wayward son... ❤
Enjoy the beautiful music 🎼🎶🙌✌️🎤🥁🎹🎸✝️☮️
Love Tommy Shaw and Styx. Always have, always will.
I see a grandmother in the Chicagoland area with all her grandkids around and Tommy Shaw comes on the radio. Grandma proudly exclaims “ Tommy Shaw,Oh yeah I blew him” 70-80’s were some wild times.
Jesus, the crazy part is I could totally imagine this in my mind for the time 🤣
Tommy Shaw is such an amazing talent
I used to like to walk the straight and narrow line
I used to think that everything was fine
Sometimes I'd sit and gaze for days through sleepless dreams
All alone and trapped in time
All alone and trapped in time
I wonder what tomorrow has in mind for me
Or am I even in it's mind at all
Perhaps I'll get a chance to look ahead and see
Soon as I find myself a crystal ball
Soon as I find myself a crystal ball
Tell me, tell me where I'm going
I don't know where I've been
Tell me, tell me, won't you tell me
And then tell me again
My heart is breaking, my body's aching
And I don't know where to go
Tell me, tell me, won't you tell me
I've just got to know
Crystal ball
There's so many things I need to know
Crystal ball
There's so many things I've got to know
Crystal ball
["extra verse" used occasionally live:]
If you should see me walking
Through your dreams at night
Would you please direct me
Where I ought to be
I've been looking for a crystal ball
To shed the light
To find a future in me...
To find a future in me...
Crystal ball
There's so many things I need to know
Crystal ball
There's so many things I've got to know
Crystal ball
I had such a crush on Tommy Shaw. Had his name all over my PeeChee folder. The sweetness of youth. 🥰
November 2022 and just heard this on an independent radio station in Cincinnati in the very early hours of the morning! Outstanding song!
Amazing
Seeing Styx live was always on my bucket list. I hope they keep touring.
Seen Styx at Casino Rama a few years ago and they were absolutely awesome 👌
Dennis De Young is the only way to go !!! The new guy is a freaking dork
Most amazing song in my life, like most STYX songs, but this one forever, Love you Tom Tommy.
Tommy is amazing at absolutely everything. He’s one of those guys who would pick up a bowling ball and shoot 300; pick up a golf club and hit a hole in one; that guy who, in a bar of 8 women, you figure you have a chance until he takes all 8 home. My Lord, I remember seeing Styx on this tour. We have all grown old, but his voice endures.
That was 🏳️🌈.
Styx is another band that will never die!!! Thanks for the music !!!
#1. Best ever. Musicality , Hope,visuals. It’s got it all. !
PERFECTION
Still
Today!!
This was before bands tracked live music, a few mistakes on guitar , but the authenticity is so refreshing
One of my favorite songs.
Man if only styx would do one more show.
thank god for real music back then
This song still brings me to tears 30 years later
Me too
Ditto.
Me three. ❤
bad ass boys... seen them three times, so far, and they still got that magic...tommy shaw, the engine behind it all
Their concerts that year were memorable especially for extreme volume, blew out one of my eardrums, still loved it till the end. Dam, I wish that there were groups like this now, maybe kids would understand the meaning of REAL music.
TS has the voice of an angel
Without a doubt one of the best bands in history of Rock. Love these guys.
I remember my first concert was in 1977 Styx -Aerosmith in Philadelphia spectrum. Have not listened to Styx in long time but been listening a lot the last few days. Excellent band
I saw this live at Hampton Coliseum in 78.Iwas 14.One of my favorite concerts.Video doesn't do it justice but i love it.
This was the first tour I saw...Saw 3 more, got better every time!!!!!!!
Loved him at Daryl's house!
Tommy and JY are exceptional guitarists who's names are never mentioned.
Great audio..just found this...Awesome version
The first time I saw Styx live tommy hadn’t been with them long. They were really good and still are.
Let's all petition to get them into the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame
Saw this tour Milwaukee in 1977 & it freaking Rocked !!!! ❤️💋
PRICELESS SONG🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I was at this concert!
This good live, great on the album
A su ya tenía tremenda voz des muy jóven!! Tommy Shaw es una leyenda, un grande. Lo amo ❤❤❤❤
I still love that voice! It gives me shivers!
What wonderful memories
real song - real music
REAL CUTIE!!!💓
Saw them do the Paradise Theater Tour great show.
Tommy is one of my favorite musicians. Like many others on here commenting I grew up on Styx since I was like 18. I see them every chance I get and Tommy's voice and guitar always sounds excellent. Styx is one of those bands lucky enough to have 2 excellent lead players. Allows for so much diversity. I really appreciate all he has done with the youth orchestra. Tommy is one of a kind person/musician and I am very thankful I have had opportunity to "grow up" listening to him through the years.
I also grew up on Styx. Though everything really came together commercially for them with Pieces of Eight in my opinion, their older stuff is gold!! Best move they ever made was adding Tommy Shaw. I'm surprised Dennis allowed it. Maybe his ego wasn't as big early on.
I'm not forgetting Grand Illusion with Come Sail Away. I just think pieces of eight with songs like Blue Collar Man brought them further to mainstream
Tommy hasn't changed at all except gotten better& cuter with age.✌🤗
I don't have a favorite STYX sound because I love them all!!!!
I LOVED YOU THEN AN
EVEN MORE TODAY!!
I'VE BEEN looking INTO
YOUR CRYSTAL BALL
FOR SO MANY YEARS!
Saw Styx ,Foghat and James Gang back in the day. The Good Old Days.
It’s great when they show the drummer during the guitar solo or the guitar players head rather than what his hands are doing to make the sounds
A couple of unique guitar riffs there. That Les Paul Custom sounds great.
Nice beefy tone. Sounded like he just plugged straight into a Marshall and no effects.
I use to have a Magic 8 Ball when I was a kid.
Now I feel so lost without it and I don't know what to do.
Tommy Shaw what a talent! 🌟
This song is straight out of a bowling alley in Montgomery Alabama. I was lucky enough to have been there.
Wow... Just great
Great song pay attention to the lyrics
My all time favorite song. Just beautiful. I love the way he hits the top of the notes! And the acoustic guitar just takes me away. This video gives me goosebumps.
Bad ass !!!
Light up styx
a bolt of pure light ;ejected from a Galaxy millions of light years away, hurling thru time and space towards an insignificant planet called Earth and struck this stage.
There's a 1996 performance on youtube of "Suite Madame Blue". It's as good as this audio-wise, but visually better, and you realize how flipping great all 5 of them are. Dennis is awesome, JY amd Tommy the same, and you get a real appreciation for how great the Panozza brothers, Chuck(RIP) on bass and John on drums are/were.These are 5 of the absolute best contained in 5 albums, all the way from "Lady" and "Lorelei" in 1969 to today, sadly missing Chuck since his death. Thank you for this video. I was 17 at the time. " The Best of Times" musically, to quote Dennis.
The first time I saw them was at a festival outside Little Rock Arkansas in 74 I think they came back to LR at least once a year if not more
Still miss Deyoung, his voice was solid even in the background when Tommy lead a song.
I was only 9 when this came out but it made me a Styx fan for life...The studio version of this is almost flawless...This version is awesome form it's time in a small venue with black and white camera's...Love this version as well!!
Thank you Bill Graham for making my rock and roll years presenting bands like this in the palace called Winterland some of the best years of my youth…best crowds, best of times!
This will always be my favorite Styx song, absolutely loved Tommy Shaw. My college crush 😍
I know this is gonna sound cliché but this is when music was real and from the heart. when a band sounds better live than on album
Fact
This certainly does not sound better than the album.
I called them the Mega-Bands. In the 80's? Just How many LP's happened? Styx, ELO, Queen, etc. LOT's of Vinyl!
Snowblind! from Styx & Ozzy! Yeah!
@@TheMICMusicInspirationChannel it must be just watching them perform these amazing songs live that's blowing my mind.
This is my favorite song I used a quote from it in my high school class book ❤️ I have seen them more times than I can count !! The original songs and band just mesmerized me ❤
I'am a 50yrs old boy, i have a great khowlege iin music. Music starting from 1940 to 2000. Every rock band like kingcreamson, asia, the who, n so on. There is only about 1000000 people who listen to good music like janis joplin, alzaro, miles davis, blows against the empire.
What a great song. Actually had the album and didn't even know it. So glad I found it later in my life. Styx was the Best!! Thanks guys....
we ran this cassette over and over.
Всегда слушаю. Классика. Стикс просто прелесть.
That dude had a great voice and he plays the guitar like no one’s business
Oh my goodness I completely forgot about this song I saw them in 1977
Holee smokes. Saw em at the Old Met in Minneapolis 1981
