  • The Second Gen MDX has been one of my favorite SUV's off all time! Honestly. Lol. I think it's just different enough to make it feel like the price premium is worth it over a 2010 Pilot Touring. I'm glad we chose this over a Pilot!

I've had my 2010 MDX with Tech package from new. in 2011, I was rear ended by a Honda CRV. My car was looking pretty unscathed while the CRV was a complete write off. We named my car "The Tank" after that. Now in it's 13th year and it has held up well in the baking California sun. The leather seats are still good. I found an amazing leather cleaner brand that has helped keep the seats supple. Obenauf's leather products are AMAZING!. I plan to drive my car until it gives up. Currently at 131,000.

My 2011 MDX needed an alternator also at 130,000 miles. Currently at 141,000 miles and use about two quarts of oil between oil changes. Needed new struts and a master cylinder recently. I went with the Monroe complete struts to save some money and so far it’s a great ride, Thanks for your 2010 review

Moco MD cousin here. The oil consumption is a recall item. You may be outside the recall but dealer should replace pistons and rings and some other items before 130k. The engine will stop burning oil and you will make it to 300k easy. Cats might get gummed up if you don’t get it fixed

Of you have a oil burning problem ,contact American Honda customer service see if you can get it done under good will warranty, why did it happen ?? lack of oil changes crappy oil , and filters , poor regular fuel , low tension low friction piston ring s ,!!! Fix cheap start with fin ding a technician that will do what iam about to tell you ,1, remove all spark plugs ,2, fill cylinders to top with either sea foam or beryman carbon cleaner and let it soak 48 hrs top off if nessacery ,next fr o m the passenger front side locate the crank pully 19 mm bolt and with a long extension and a long rachet rotate the engine about 10 times to get the solvent out ,then make sure all the coils are disconnected or out of the way and wrapped up so they can't spark , have a water hose on hand or a fire extinguisher , next turn engine over and you will see all the gunk come flying out of each cylinders ,place rags over each to catch it , next let rest for at least 3- 4 hrs to dry or if you have a air compressor blow out each cylinders , next change oil twice , run car it will smoke so normal let it run ,drive it and then change oil , with synthetic ,your oil consumption will slow , use premiums top teir fuel and continue a maintenance plan of 4 k miles max

Love my 2010! I have the advanced package while it was great while it worked, living in a cold climate destroys the ads shocks and at $3600 just for the front 2 shocks and having the potential of it reoccurring, I just put regular shocks in. I don't think I've had to put in more than half a quart of oil between an oil change, I must be one of the fortunate ones. 241,000k and going strong, I'm going to keep it till I reach 500k 😃

I cured my oil consumption on my 2011 MDX by adding a quart of marvel mystery oil in the crankcase on my last 1000 miles of my oil change. Also added 8 Oz to the gas tank at every fill during that last 1000 miles. Just that one time I went from 600 miles per quart to 3000 miles per quart. Will be treating again at the end of this oil change and see if we can get to no adding between changes. The issue is build up on the oil rings causing them to lose seat. There are many vehicles that are having this issue and using 100% synthetic oil helps to reduce the problem.

My 2010 tech MDX is at 130k miles, it’s running pretty ok here in north, Toronto in Canada more specifically, alternator down at around 120k, replaced all shock absorbers, and faulty Bluetooth module could cause unknown power drain, but it only drain occasionally, dealer said I can change it but it could be broken again. And I got burning oil problems too since 120k miles, Acura will not fix it for free anymore, so my solution is to add seaform every 4k miles, hit gas to 5k or 6k rpm occasionally, try to burn some carbon and then replace oil, it could still burn oil but I will not get oil low warning in first 2k miles. And btw, the power cable holes in tailgate could leak water and if water goes in the left hole, you might need to check the rear fuse box, water could damage it and trigger false alarm.

Anyways, this video was 2 years ago so I’m not sure if you still have this truck but I heard changing the pcv valve will atleast slow up the oil consumption unless the piston rings are cooked then you can try carbon cleaning additives. Next step would be to rebuild the motor with upgraded piston rings. Good luck!

My 11 MDX Adv+Ent has +150,000 miles, had both magnetic struts/shocks replaced under warranty, and oil consumption is only 1.5 qts per 9000 mile oil change interval (use Mobil 1 full syn and top tier gas mostly). The MDX will handle better, tow 5000lbs, have way more room, carry 7 passengers, and have more updated tech/luxury features.
