      Okemirikingsley Martins Yes. Its a bit heavy but very stable suv and i live here in Los Angeles, traffic is bad...but on long drive, its fast, smooth, a bit of wind noise. Driving it on mountain road is a breeze, you’ll love the power.

    The Acura MDX is perfect for my wife so she can haul the grandgirls (and friends) along with their tennis equipment to tournaments and do so in style. The kids love it too. She has the Tech Package so the sound plus "bells and whistles" are fun for everyone.

    The variable valve timing (VVT) engines often develop problems if the wrong weight of oil is used or if oil change intervals are too long. This isn't just a Honda problem but it certainly does apply to the engines in these Acuras.

      3. select add bluetooth device
      4. put phone in discovery mode and handsfreelink will search for your phone

    Are the Acura MDX reliable, and are they expensive to maintain?

    • @DrivenCompanion
      @DrivenCompanion  Před 5 lety +10

      The MDX has a reputation for being very reliable. Maintenance will be a bit more than the sibling Honda Pilot but shouldn't be terribly more than your average suv

    • @outrightpainting2203
      @outrightpainting2203 Před 5 lety +8

      Routine maintenance it runs forever. My wife owns 2011 same color as this one. No major issues

    • @davebenjamin9655
      @davebenjamin9655 Před 5 lety +2

      The only thing that can get expensive is on the MDX is active suspension on the Sport package. The car handles phenomenally well with it, but when the shocks start leaking, it's an expensive replacement. There are no aftermarket shocks that are compatible with the ADS (active damping suspension). However, if you check the internet, you can find some parts houses that offer genuine Acura parts for way less than your local dealer. When it comes time to replace, I'll check to see if the local dealer we bought from will offer us a deal, however I'm prepared to install on my own or have an independent shop do it. There isn't that much labor involved unless the car is from a state where you have a lot of salt on the roads which makes it tough to get things apart.

  • @av8rbri473
    @av8rbri473 Před 3 lety +7

    My experiences with an ‘09
    The bad:
    Reliable? yes and no. have had a home link module go bad (known issue) and drain the batt and leave me stranded;
    crappy designed battery terminals (known issue) eventually come loose and leave your ass stranded unless you have tools in the veh to tighten temporarily until yu can get a PROPER set of terminals on there from autozone or the like;
    The climate control/stereo lights are very hard to read in bright daytime (known issue)
    Have had the A/C go out around 120k mi.
    Compressor failed. Thought that was a little soon for that to happen....
    Had tons of oil leaks (cam seals and several others) that eventually had to be addressed since I was tired of seeing oil on my driveway. This was not a cheap fix!!!
    Rear seat cables will eventually fail or come off the poorly designed cheap plastic actuator leaving you with no way to put the rear seats down or up from whatever position they are currently in. Not an easy fix either!! Very time consuming.
    Once again (known issue)
    Trim on B-pillar came loose while thermal expansion took place (hot/cold weather changes) and whistles while you’re going down the road....
    lots of chk engine lights when it’s cold out, but when it’s warmer, not so much... code checker said it was one thing, had mechanics look at it and said it was functioning properly.... but until that light is off, you will not have full power on acceleration or passing (guessing that’s some sort of limp mode protection???)
    The Good:
    The super handling AWD
    the handling of it is decent yet still with a pretty good ride considering....you’re rolling down the road in a 4200+ LB veh.
    Seems VERY stable around corners at speed.
    This thing is a BOSS in the snow with the AWD. It did very well in the little bit of snow we had here going up some pretty steep inclines as well. That’s what I paid for, and that’s what I got. Confidence inspiring.....
    The engine
    What can I say. The V6 Honda motor runs smooth and seems very reliable. Though I wish it had more low end torque. Don’t get me wrong, this thing will scoot, but you have to put your foot into it to convince it to scoot. Otherwise, it can feel anemic at times. More torque would solve this.
    170kmi. and still runs buttery smooth with the same power it had the day i bought it at 45kmi
    The stereo.
    The stereo comes with a sub-woofer and plays clear and loud! Pretty impressive for a stock factory setup.
    The adjustable steering wheel.
    The steering wheel comes with a power telescoping feature as well as power up/down adjustment. The telescoping feature really helps to get it just about rt to your preferred ergonomics. Nice Feature Acura/Honda.!!

    • @DrivenCompanion
      @DrivenCompanion  Před 5 lety +4

      Hi Brandon, Its always hard to say how reliable a vehicle will be long-term as it can vary from one to another but in general the MDX has a good reputation for reliability. Acura is a luxury branch of Honda so they tend to have similarly strong reliability. Most important though is that you want to make sure any car you buy has been well mainted by the previous owner and I strongly recommend getting one with a clear title and no prior accidents.

    Man, you can't compare a Q5 (small urban Suv) to a big MDX. And i'm sure that the MDX is more powerful and faster than the Q5. Both are V6... But this is The most powerful honda engine

    • @DrivenCompanion
      @DrivenCompanion  Před 5 lety +3

      I own a Q5 and guarantee the MDX is nowhere close to as quick. You're right the Q5 isn't the best comparison for the MDX. The Q7 is more equivalent.

      The oil consumption from teh 10-13 3.7L engine was caused by clogged oil rings around the pistons. The fix was replacing the pistons and rings with an updated design. There was an extended warranty to cover the repair.
